  1. I have seen foley cath tubing and drainage bags stain blue. Asked many docs and only one had a semi-decent answer, "maybe it's a bacterial growth?" I have always wondered if there was really ananswer. My patient was in LTC didn't eat or drink anything even remotely blue and hadn't had any tests or Meth. Blue, just dunno...
  2. Oh God Syringe feeding....I almost forgot! My staff was freaking out when they did away with this practice (torture) so I had each staff member feed each other this way with water and applesauce mixed. We all immediately agreed this was a BAD way to feed someone, and a very good way to choke .
  3. This is NOT a suggestion. (see how I said that first?)...Nor justification, but..... in the old days (when Posey vests and Geri-chairs were the norm) the aides and I (five of us) would guide the victim to the shower and who ever didn't have an arm or leg (usually me) would wash pits and peri from the posterior side and hose the patient (and partially the aides). towel off what I could (of the patient only) and call clear, then we would release the patient and duck. Sometimes we got away with out being hit, slapped or punched, sometimes not. I anticipate an avalanche of negative responses but back then was just that....back then.
  4. Well I achieved the (secret off the books) Caduceus meeting getting off the ground. We have had a turn out of from 3-6 for the once monthly meeting, 3 months now. I consider this a success! Thanks for your reply. I posted you a msg with yet another question. Peace
  5. Thank you for your swift reply. I will investigate further. thanks too for the links. Sorry I posted this question in two places. peace Marie
  6. Does anyone have information on starting a Caduceus AA meeting? Are there any guidelines for Michigan or is it (as I think) a closed AA meeting for Medical Professionals? Does H.P.R.P. have any authority or rules about the formation of new Caduceus meetings? There are multiple nurses and doctors who regularly attend AA meetings with me and the closest Caduceus meetings are at least 45 minutes away.

  8. I am starting to feel like this is messed up. I never heard from the company as told I would on wed. now I am here in the office, reported as asked at 12pm. The owner (who is the one to make the formal job offer) isn't here, nor is the nurse who has been training. noone has told me anything, when I asked one person he said the owner has been "sick" this week but I heard from the guy training me that she was in court for another situation all week and has started another company for her private duty cases. I got a gut feeling this is a mess and don't know what to do. I have many restrictions on my licence and ability to practice so I am between a "rock and a hard place" I don't feel like I can be picky or demanding, but I also feel I have a right to know what the heck is going on.
  9. well I have been offered Director of Nursing Private Duty side, await the salary offer. I looked up the title on "PayScale Salary Reports" website and find a range from $57,716 through $88,040 I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get my offer today (as promiced) wish me luck
  10. I hate it when my husband expects me to diagnose his aches and pains... like you said I don't have x-ray eyes! question: my husband heard some where that when your tonails grow real fast it means your dying. any one ever heard this? I told him it means you have good enough circulation to have them growing nicely.
  11. I push the soap box back to you..... I agree, the most rewarding memory of my career is a patient for whom I did nothing technical, just was her friend and showed her some love. For that she was the "president of my fan club". I think of her often and whenever I go to a funeral I tell the deceased " look for Viola when you get to heaven, tell her your a friend of mine and she will show you around" I don't know if the deceased feel better but I do. And I believe it! I was her angel and now she is mine
  12. well I initally calculated $33/hr x 40 hr x 52 weeks and came up with around 68-69,000/year, mentioned thet figure to the owner..... thought about it some more and went back with a figure based on 32/hr/week x $30 x52 weeks in a year and came up with just under 50,000/year so I went back to the owner and told her 50-60,000 range was "comfortable for me ,,,,, I only made 38,000 in 2007 and we did alright so this would be an improvement. I should hear tonight what my new title is and the salary the board of directors approved

  14. I have the Michigan restriction of 10 years no work in "long term care" which includes group homes, ECF atc... all thats left are hospitals and dr offices... none of which want to see a felony of any kind on your record. Any ideas on something related but yet different? I have started looking at research nursing (limited opputunities) and am going to start manually visiting dr offices. it bites, nurses if you have not got this far into your addiction I pray you dont have to go through this. I am on the brink of bankrupt/forclosure.
  15. mind your own business. you have no idea how LONG it takes for the BON to clear up something. let her sink herself if in fact thats what is going to happen. inho
