Union Hospitals
I have worked for a union and they only take your money. I have not heard of any union helping nurses. It may have changed but back in the day the only union that would take nurses was teamsters. Now I am not that ancient it was only about 10 years ago. The places you work for have fired people for union talk but that is illegal. So you need to be on the dl. never talk about it on work property and only talk to people you truly trust. good luck

What's the dumbest remark you've heard yourself make...
I think everyone who worked in a nursing home has made the remark the one over there with grey hair, glasses, sweater in a wheelchair. I really miss working in the nursing home.

all of these stories go to show nurses have a sense of humor, heh we need it. I think the patient apreciates it especially when they are included in the joke or are the ones that make you aware what you said just because they are ill or elderly doesn't mean they can't find humor in our mistakes. Our family is norweigian and we laugh at the stupidest things. Can't even get into it. Just keep humor with youself and all will be good:yeah:

Relocating to Wisconsin, need some help!!!!!!!!!!
I have lived in WI all my life. It has it's ups and downs like any other state. The taxes are high. The school system for jr and high school are not so good. You need to be on the teachers and the school all the time. I hate winter and it seems to last forever. I do not know why I stay except it is where my family is expecially my new grandbaby. The job market is very slim. good luck

CNA jobs in Fox Cities area? (Appleton, etc)
The valley does have openings. It seems that in the valley as well as green bay cna's go to other nursing homes thinking the grass is greener on the other side. Sometimes it is but mostly it is the same. It is what you make of it. I loved doing cna work but unfortunately ruptured discs in my back and am no longer able to do it. I miss the one on one that a cna gets with the patient. Look up the nursing homes on net for all nursing homes in the valley and check out their job situation. or just send them a resume. Like I said they are always looking for good cna's and from what you wrote you sound like you like what you do. good luck

Criminal charges against WI Nurse
ELKPARK I agree with you, a death happened due to she was probably in a hurry and did not do her checks. She should have gotten more then suspension and probation. she obviously does not care about her patient, her time to get home is more important. Again I bring up my situation, I did not kill any one, I did not make a med error, I did not go to work drunk, I did not steal drugs, I am not a drug addict. I had a stupid inmate somehow get my information and I am treated like a criminal as she should be not me. Very angry about this out come. She got a slap on the wrist for murder.

Any place hiring new RNs
Sorry my computer sends things before I'm done. Anyway I say start in long term care. These places really need help and Good, Caring Nurses. So many nurses are there for the money. never go into nursing for the money It is hard work at a LTC but the reward of helping those people who a lot of them don't have anyone. The staff are their family. There are different departments to work for in LTC from general nursing to medicare which is more like a hospital except you have more patients. I have worked in long term care many years and always went home happy that I could make someone smile.

anyone having trouble getting reinstated
reinstated. I am a good nurse I was never given my rights. I did not know I could get an attorney although I was told by the Dr they suggested I see that if I had an attorney they would have been harder on me. I was never explained the deal. I was never told I would have to pay back fees to procecute me. I was not invited to the trial. So I never got to give my case in person, I explained all of this on my appeal. When I appealed I was sent a letter back withing a few days which shows me they never looked at my case. I need advise.

do the correctionals hire new grads?
I am not sugar coating it. If it is something you really want to do then by all means do it. They have nothing but time to think of things to get your information, and follow your routine. If this is what you want good luck to you. Just have eyes and ears open. good luck with what ever you do.

do the correctionals hire new grads?
working in min security is much different then max. I have seen tough nurses get beat and nurses who are less tough get beat, you have to remember these men have not been with a woman in years. They dont even give the nurses walkie talkies to communicate with officers even they are to be with you. The guard was with me when I had urine, feces and sperm thrown on me. what can you do to him he was already in the hole. Where I worked we had to wear dresses, I objected this because you have to walk up tiers and inmates and officers look up and both make comments. I left there because it was not a safe environment no amount of money is worth getting beaten or raped. The prisons need to come up with a way to safe guard the nurses and female officers. Inmates have thrown a female officer off top tier. she died. Again I say it is NO place for a new grad.

do the correctionals hire new grads?
you don't want to go into especially being a new grad. I don't know what is worse the officers or inmates. Inmates will throw urine, feces and sperm on you. They like to pull out their member to see if you get upset. They will say anything to try to get you to trust them. They are not in there because they are nice people. There are fights then you have to patch them up. They fake illness's to see if you will send them to hosp. The officers make crude statements about the nurses so why should the inmates respect the nurse. Get some seasoning under your belt first, tour a prison the worst one in your area. then make a decision. The guards are suppose to be with you at all times when you are with an inmate and they are not so accusations are made. Just be careful. The most rewarding place to work is a nursing home, it is hard work but it is satisfying

Criminal charges against WI Nurse
I think she should loose her license, I was suspended just cause an inmate called my house. I did not kill anyone. About crimial charges it is no different then a drunk killing someone driving. She needed to read orders and that is why I always double checked with another nurse on a medication of that type with another nurse. I feel bad for her and unfortunately people think nurses are'nt human therefore don't make mistakes. A nurse should be given a second chance. But WI does'nt see it that way. I wish this nurse well. If this is her first mistake again we need to be given a second chance criminals are given many chances until they lock them up. Sorry if I sound harsh but I am bitter myself just cause a stupid inmate got hold of my number. Good luck for both of us.

anyone having trouble getting reinstated
 My RN was suspended for 2 yrs cause I fought charges that were untrue. Now they want me to pay almost $:cry:10,000.00 and see a psych in MN. An inmate got hold of my number and they are using that as fratrinization and sexual misconduct. I was never alone with any inmate they just skipped over that part when I asked how this could have happened when guards are there all the time. I can't afford the money and am not insane. If I had known then what I know now I would have taken a plea and be working already but I could not admit to things I did not do and felt if I tell the truth I would be vindicated. Please help
