Who's applying to Baylor or Parkland internships for June?
Good for you Ashley! I'm so jealous. I have had Parkland as my top choice ever since Level 3. I feel like I applied too late (mid March). Did you get to speak with anyone about the facility? I was told that all I could do was apply online and wait for a call back. No shadowing, no contacts.....kinda bummed me out. I guess I can pretty much bet on not getting hired then huh? Bummer

Have any of you guys received calls back from Parkland? It seems like everyone is interested in ICU. Anyone have EMT or teck experience in an ICU?

Parkland info
I'm in double panic mode. I applied to all available critical care residencies. I was told by HR that you can't request to shadow in the units, their is not chance to talk directly to hiring individuals, and I'll be contacted by a recruiter if they find my application desirable. Although I really want to work for Parkland, I don't like their hiring process. The hospital I work for now in Austin has a much better hiring process. The offered a meet-and-greet fair; you are able to directly talk to hiring managers; and, you can shadow in the units and learn about the facility. This is a much more personable process. I wish parkland's was the same. Still, I hope i get a call.

How do I get a job/interview for Parkland residency 2010
For those of you accepted into the ICU residency program can you tell us how you got in? I'm doing whatever I can to guarantee acceptance and make myself extremely competitive. Thanks

new grad nurse moving from NY to Austin
Unless you have some solid tech experience, EMT experience, or you know somebody.....getting a job will be tough. As far as ICU goes, unless you have the above mentioned experience, kiss your chances good bye. Seriously! Its depressing but the sad truth.

UT Austin SON Spring 2010!!!
You got denied with a 3.8? WOW!! I'm going to ACC and I'm graduating this May. ACC is extremely competitive too. Cool thing about ACC is that me and my wallet sleep well at night. More people my age should really consider ACC, it is an awesome program. CEC actually has their lectures at Brack.

TWU vs. UT Austin?

Dallas, TX- Baylor or Parkland?
Hey everyone, I'm currently working at a Level I trauma center in Austin, Texas and i'm a Level IV nursing student. GO BRACK!!!!! The unit of my choice is definitely going to be ICU. Although I'm definitely partial to the hospital that I work for, I'm afraid they might not choose me. I've also been researching a lot about Baylor and Parkland. Is there anyone out there that can shed some specifics about their orientations? Also, for those of you recent graduates that were accepted into these programs, can you please reveal your competitive edge? What is it that you did that got you hired? I'm trying to do what ever possible to increase my chances. Here is what I have so far....3.75 GPA (most likely top of my class), ACLS, 8 months experience on a Critical Decision Unit at a level I trauma center, experience in medical relief abroad, and I'm Spanish speaking. I know that I will survive and flourish in such programs. The trick is getting in. Any help is much appreciated!
