  1. Alot of the doctor's offices around here primarly hire LPNS. If you wanted to work a mon-fri job with weekends and hoildays off, a doctor's office is a nice option. You are definatly qualifed to work in a doc's office as an RN, but it would cost the office thousands more a year, (if you expect RN pay) when an LPN will do pretty much EXACTLY the same thing in that type setting.
  2. I am currently in nursing school myself(living in Troy now), with a goal to move to Nashville/murfreesboro next year. I have found out that St. Thomas also has an on-site child care center for thier employees (thur age 5 I think) and once your children are school age there are some nice after-school and summertime programs affiliated with the public schools which are decently priced. I found one in Murfreesboro (which is olny about 15 mins from cane ridge) which has a web cam- you can log onto thier website and actually watch your child and see what they are up to anytime of the day. Pretty neat I thought.I have relatives that live in Nashville and Murfreesboro and I looked through thier phone book on my last visits, saw MANY daycares, haven't called all of them though. BTW,You definatly get alot nicer/newer house for your money there with all of the new developments...the same amont of money doesn't get us very much in Troy/ Union City!!! Good luck and congrats on being in your senior year!
  3. FREE!!! Fasfa is pretty much paying for everything, and then some. I am even recieving money for gas....kinda funny, I am actually getting paid to go to school
  4. I took this test last wed....SOOOOOOOO easy. just very BASIC math and they even gave us calculators. Please do not stress over this test- it IS NOT on a 12th grade level, at least mine wasn't. Not even close
  5. I REALLY think it depends on your state...LPNs in Tn have their IV certification and are considered very valuable in our hospitals...
  6. I will be starting school in the fall as well ...I felt like I had little knowledge of the human body (pre-reqs are not required for my diploma program) so I have bought an anatomy coloring book that has already taught me alot so I feel like I will have somewhat of a knowlegable founation of the human body going in...and every little thing I can learn now will be one less thing in the fall. Besides, it cost me only 5$ off of ebay and I feel good to be doing something and not just "waiting" all day for school to start.:yeah:
  7. sarjane8504: my comment wasn't in anyway directed to you personally i see how it probably came across that way. i was just saying thats all i really hear about it. but i am glad people are upfront so i don't walk in thinking it's a piece of cake.
  8. I will be starting a TN tech center this fall...I have ONLY heard how hard and and fast-paced things are. I wish someone would say,"study hard and you can do it! You'll love this year!" Unfortuanatly, most comments are just plain negative
  9. Thanks for all of your experiences. It really makes me more determined....
  10. orientation was great- I am little nervous that their last class only had 12 graduating out of an orginal 30 ...yikes! btw, has anyone here taken the crc test and if so, how was it?
  11. I am going to my orientation tonight....sooooo excited
  12. Thanks for such great posts. It is really nice to hear opinions from people who have tried both. Does anyone out there work at a hospital that provides daycare for your kids? I heard of one in Nashville and I wondered if this was common. Any imput on this would be great. Thanks for posting
  13. Hi, I have just discovered that I will be entering nursing school in the fall. I am sooooo excited. Almost as an afterthought, I started stressing about where to work after school. I have two young children and no family that can help me when I get a job. I have the details worked out while I am in school, but after that I'm clueless. I am wondering if 12-hour shifts are better to work b/c you have more actual days off to be with your family (espacially in the summer when school will be out). I know I am looking far down the road, but I would appriciate your thoughts on the matter. Moms out there- What works for your family?
  14. Congratulations and thanks for answering my question. I am nervous but I know I am a hard worker- thats one thing I do have going for me. Your words have given me encouragement and reassured me that as long as I work hard I can do it. I was afraid that maybe people WERE working hard but just couldn't "grasp" it. You have given me the impression that they just weren't applying themselves and giving 100%. That makes me feel a little better.
  15. I hope to be starting lpn school in the fall, and I can't help but feel a little nervous. I have noticed others on this site posting how many classmates are "left" vs. how many they started with. Do you lose the majority of classmates due to their failure to understand/pass the class, or do people leave on their own (drop out) b/c they change their mind? It would make me feel alot better to think people are leaving on their own and not being kicked out!
