I'm looking to buy books for NCTC LVN program
Thanks! I started looking on amazon and ebay for the books but I can't find a lot of them used. I saw in my paperwork that I can buy a lot of the books for certain courses in "kits" or "packages" for reduced rates at the bookstore. I guess that's what I will do so I can make sure that I have the right editions, etc. I was just looking to save some money if at all possible. I feel good knowing that I will use all of the books listed. Thanks again

I'm looking to buy books for NCTC LVN program
Hi, Im beginning NCTC's LVN program this fall. I just got my book list and there are a ton of books! I am looking for someone who has been through the program to see if they would be willing to sell their books to me. I am looking to buy EVERY book on the list, so if youre looking to get rid of yours please reply!

I agree that more open availability is a major advantage of trade schools! Im sure if I wasnt lucky enough to be close to a community college that wasnt that competitive to get into, then I would consider a trade school. Some colleges are unreal with their waiting lists. I would rather pay a lot more to start a program and start my career than to wait 2 years or more on a waiting list. And like you said any lvn licensure transfers to a RN bridge program no matter how you got your LVN licensure whether it be a college or trade school. Its all the same in the end!

I do see your point; but at NCTC this past year whenever I took the net I honestly felt like I bombed it and I still got in. On the reading section no one in my test class even finished the section. I left about 10 questions blank and still passed. In orientation the director of the program said that generally anyone who passes the net according to their minimum standards usually gets in. Im sure that in other areas around the country its much more competitive and you might have to get an awesome net score to be considered. But I was referring to NCTC since the original post said that they lived close to NCTC.

With all due respect, my opinion as far as the net goes... I see how some people might have a little trouble with the net at first. If you dont go online or get a studyguide to see the layout of the questions or type of material you need to study I can see how someone could fail the net. Maybe some people are anxious, when the pressure is on to take the test. However, if you have the resources available to study for this exam (online sites, handbooks, or if youve taken it multiple times) and you still dont pass it....then you shouldnt be a nurse. I would like to think that someone who is going to be MY nurse would be able to take a test with general math/reading questions. How in the world are you going to PASS strenuous nursing school if you cant pass a standardized test?! Im not knocking trade schools, I just think WHY spend the extra money if you can do it for less. Ive been to an expensive trade school to get certified to be a dental assistant; and had a bad experience where none of my credits transfer, and I cant transfer between states. I was TOLD by my instructor that there wouldnt be any problems with that, but now there is and theres nothing I can do about it because I didnt get it in writing! So I just urge everyone to be cautious because there are trade schools out there that will tell you what you want to hear.

For the lvn program at nctc there arent any waitlists...all you have to do is go to an orientation session and take the net test (nursing entrance test). it has a math and a reading section; the applicants with the highest scores get in. so your previous gpa wont matter, no prereqs, etc. all you would have to do is study up for the net and youre golden! classes begin in jan and august. look into it www.nctc.edu. and the best part is that its accredited and probably around six thousand dollars for the entire program. ive been to a private "career" college before and they sugar coated everything and i ended up burned. PLEASE dont go to a school that charges 4 times the price just because its quicker to get into!!!! Good luck

NCTC LVN program for Aug 2009
No, I applied to the traditional LVN class. I got my acceptance letter yesterday!!!!!! What a relief :) Looking back on my first post; I sound so desperate lol. I was just so stressed; Im ready to get back into school. My husband is in the military and Ive had bad luck being in one spot long enough to apply, start, and finish something. Im moving to Texas in August and should be there for the rest of my life. Yay, finally. Thanks for you help and good luck with your program. I hope they do start an online LVN to RN bridge program, that would be AMAZING.

Nursing Program Waiting List?
If you're willing to do a LVN program first, and then later bridge over...North Central Texas Collge has an LVN program and you get in based upon your Nursing Entrance Test scores only. There is a campus in Corinth, Gainesville, and Bowie. So all you would have to do is study up for the NET!!!! No prereqs, prior course work helps or hurts your chances of getting in! Hope this helps :)

NCTC LVN program for Aug 2009
Hi, I have applied to the NCTC LVN program beginning Aug 2009. Has anyone else applied for this program?! I was curious to see if anyone has received any news about being accepted or wait listed. Originally in the information session back in Feb we were told that we would know if we were accepted by late March. Then I received my NET scores (which were good...I scored a 78, 94th percentile) late March and was told that class list decisions would be made late April. It's now the second week of May and NO WORD! Im stressing out...tired of waiting! I feel that my scores were good, Im not too sure what is a great score on the NET so I cant rest easy just yet. Also, I live in Illinois so it would take my letter a few extra days to make it through the mail to me, locals should know sooner. Please leave a reply if you have any insight! Thanks :)
