NCTC-Corinth Campus-LVN Prog...working and school?
Hello, So, after I pay off my truck and a credit card I want to apply to Corinth NCTC for the LVN program. First i'm going to get the AP1 for Allied Healthy out of the way first. That will leave classes M-Fr 8am-4pm I believe. I'll also be using the 9/11 Bill from being in the Army that will put 1200 in my pocket a month and 1000/year for books. 1200 Is great but it's not going ot be enough I was just wondering what you guys did for those of you who were single, living in your own apartment, and had bills to pay etc. I pay just over 1,000 a month for all my bills put together and I know i'll have to work and do school at the same time. Just seems like its not possible to juggle study time and work.

NCTC, Corinth Texas LVN 1st semester
Thanks, I was thinking along the same line pretty much. Even with the 1200 a month I'll certanily still have to work still a little unless I decide to use my savings and if I have to I could always get a very small student load too to cover gas, food, extra spending money etc. I'm actually working at a hospital right now..well a few... as a security officer. All the nurses in all the hospitals keep telling me that I should just go for RN. It's a year more, I'll have to drive farther than NCTC to any number of colleges with RN 22miles one way most likely choice. But still same boat as LVN I would still have to work =(. Sometimes I think to myself that college was only meant for the rich.

NCTC, Corinth Texas LVN 1st semester
Hello people, I was just looking for some advice and/or experience with this question. I was planning on enrolling into NCTC, in Corinth Texas LVN program. It's a grand total of 42 hours/42 weeks long. 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. The first semester is: Anatomy and Physiology for Allied Health 4 hours Basic Nursing Skills 3 hours Nursing in Health and Illness 1 4 hours Essential of Medication Admin 2 horus Clinical 1 3 hours Now I have the option of taking A&P1 before I start the program and that's the only class I can take before. Is the classload by itself ok or do you guys think that is too much? I've been getting really discouraged after reading a lot of blogs on this website about A&P1. I've been trying to start college for over a year but things keep holding me back. How will a job fit into my schooling? I currently work 12am-8am usually. The money factor shouldn't be too much of a problem because as a Iraq Veteran I'm eligable for the new 9/11 GI Bill that will pay 100% tuition, about 1,200 a month in my pocket, and 1,000 a year for books. That 1200 will pay my apartment rent, utilities and my truck note and insurance. I just got to make enough for gas and food and extra spending money etc. But anyways what's your guys opinions on the classload?

Priority List for NCTC in Corinth?
I was just wondering. I was reading the catolog for NCTC LVN program and they talk and show a chart about priority points. It doesn't make sense to me because I've been reading everywhere about how everyone gets in but what if you don't have any points at all? Does that mean you don't get into the LVN program? Or does it just mean you got to wait longer than if you did have points? I don't know it just seems like priority points for NCTC might be irrelevent.

NCTC Rooms/apartments for rent
Yeah, I got a friend at Chapel Hill too. She said she was moving out because they jacked up her rent to $800 a month. I'm looking at Vista Springs of Lewisville right now. Good price, gated, covered parking and very safe. And apartmentratings.com has a lot of good reviews about it.

NCTC Rooms/apartments for rent
Well, here goes nothing. This seems to be a great place to ask questions anyways. So I'm planning on attending NCTC in Corinth, Tx in August for the LVN Program. I live down the road in Lewisville with family right now being I just got out of the Army. I've been looking for apartments online in the area around Lewisville and I'm not liking the apartments at all. Most of them are really ghetto and not safe and or expensive rent not including utilities. Almost as much as a mortgage payment. I checked apartmentguide.com and apartmentratings.com and I'm not liking what I'm seeing at all in this area. So, anybody in here know where I can find a really great priced apartments around NCTC area that's not ghetto and unsafe/unsecured. Or maybe rooms for rent. I found a one place in Denton with a room for rent for $480 including all utilties and 2 other people in the house. If you know where I can find more I need to know. I'm not so sure about renting a room in a house with people I don't know. I'm kinda a loner when it comes to renting but who knows I might give it a try. Thanks, Patrick

Concorde Arlington, Texas work/school
I work security at a few hospitals right now. A nurse I talk to every night in this ICU facility is always telling me don't do RN and it's easier to just go for the gold and go RN. I just figured going LVN that I would learn a lot of stuff and it would be better doing a bridge. But I might consider it. Like everyone says its just so darn competetive to get into a slot it's crazy and downright depressing sometimes.

Concorde Arlington, Texas work/school
:yeahthat: :smilecoffeeIlovecof What do you guys think about Brookhaven, NCTC, Collin County? Any of those I should stay away from for any reason?

Concorde Arlington, Texas work/school
Well, I can rule out Concorde anyways. I called up and asked IAVA about the new 9/11 Bill. It won't cover Concord they said only the soon to be old GI Bill will. I'm going to look back into public anways. That way I get the full benefits of the 9/11 Bill given to me and I always got the "Hazelwood Act for Texas too that's only honored with public schools. I live in Lewisville....12 minutes from NCTC probably 20-25mins from Brookhaven. El Centro is in the heart of Dallas. Don't think I feel like making that drive everyday. Somebody told me today to check out Collin County Community College ADN program in Frisco. It's supposed to be a good one too. Get my LVN then do a bridge program and it wont cost me a dime with the 9/11 bill alone and Hazelwood Act. I'm getting so excited. Thanks for the input. btw: Concorde in Arlington cost just over 23k for the 1year day programe 8am-6pm mon-fri (YIKES) and 25k for the 17 month weekend and 2 days a week deal.

Concorde Arlington, Texas work/school
Weatherford and Hill College I'll check those out thank you. I'm know how expensive it is for Concorde. I just went down today to talk with the admisssions rep. For the LVN 1 year program its currently just over 23,000. Expensive yes, but there is no waiting to get in and no having to be ranked by GPA/ classes just to get in which I like personally. You can make good money in Texas as an LVN and pay back any remaining balance of the tuition after GI Bill and grants etc, pretty quick. And I would be getting my RN thru a bridge program as quick as possible. And from what I was told today Concorde is accredited nationally and by the BON and by the U.S. Department of Education. And all I have been reading is positive things about Concorde really. I can't go to Cleburne that's over and hour and a half away from my house in Lewisville, Texas. I got NCTC 10 minutes up the road from my house which would be nice if they didn't have the whole waiting period to get in and rankings etc. Brookhaven is down the road in Farmers Branch...and then El Centro in downtown Dallas. But they area ll pretty competative to get accepted into Nursing. Concorde I don't have to worry about it.

Concorde Arlington, Texas work/school
So I just got out of the Army. I'm looking at going to Concorde for personal reasons for LVN program then afterwards to community college for LVN to RN bridge. The hours are Mon thru Fri...8am-6pm. :smackingf I'm guessing that's for the first few months before clinicals start. I have to work no matter what. I should have about 1200 a month given to me by the government as part of the new GI Bill now called the 9/11 Bill effective August of this year. But I will still have to work atleast on the weekends for extra money so I can atleast live good and not just on ramen noodles. and be able to pay rent, gas, electricity, water, truck payment, insurance, etc. Just wanted to know though of anybody going to Concorde here in Arlington with the same situation or story about working etc. I really need somebody to relate to...so I can feel better about my situation. I'm just getting scared that it might not work out.
