  1. Bump! Anyone else??
  2. Certain agencies specialize in bringing in nurse from other countries. They basically do all the paperwork for you (for a cut of your pay, of course) to get you set up with a company and help with your application for a H-1 visa. I am sure there will be agencies that also extend this to CRNAs, given the shortage. Why not try contacting a couple and asking them of your opportunities if you were to be trained as a CRNA but did not have US residency.
  3. This post smells fishy.....I think you're really a disgruntled MD (or student to be) presenting yourself as a CRNA to get your points across.
  4. Hi all, I have been accepted into a CRNA program that begins in Sept 07. I was advised to start taking some classes over the summer so it would not be as intense once school started. I enrolled for three and began taking them 5 weeks ago online. I was told by financial aid office to submit FAFSA and I would get tuition paid through financial aid. I have just been informed that I am ineligible because I am not matriculated?? The classes are expensive and I really expected federal aid to pick this up and don't want to go to private loans yet. Anyone else experienced this - did you find a way around it or did you end up paying out of pocket/using private loans. Thanks
  5. There's a reason they pay so much for your eggs. It's supposed to be extremely painful and the hormone injections apparently have alot of side effects. You may want to check out the side effects on this before you decide to donate.
  6. Please tell us your experiences of your first job as a CRNA. Was it all that you expected? Pros and cons.
  7. Quick question for all you practicing CRNAs. Did you get an offer to pay for your tuition for school from your first job. I'm just wondering how frequently this occurs while I am considering how much to borrow for CRNA school.
  8. YAHOOO - The letter finally came: a nice big fat acceptance letter!! The letters went out on the 12th so I guess anyone who is waiting can expect to hear soon. Thanks to everyone for the great advice and support on this board.
  9. Yep, the waiting is the worst. I will post as soon as I hear. I thought this week or early next week also.
  10. Hi, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - they interviewed on the 7th and 14th of February and said that they would make their final decisions by first week of March. Maybe you could call the school and find out why you didn't get an interview, that way if you are interested for next year you will have more information re what they are looking for. Good luck.
  11. Anyone heard yet? I know they said first week of March but I noticed that they tended to notify earlier than this in past years, so just wondering if anyone got their letter.
  12. Did you interview on Wednesday as planned? I know the snow closed down a lot of schools. I interviewed the Wednesday before.
  13. Anyone know of a good online course in statistics?
  14. Her screen name is CRNA2B i.e CRNA to be. She is a CRNA to be so what is wrong with her using that description? I am sure the program will be fine about your upcoming pregnancy.. they cannot discriminate against you based on this. I don't think it's wrong to expect some concessions based on the fact you are pregnant. I would hope your director will bend over backwards to help you finish on time. I would also hope your classmates would be supportive and understand that you may need closer clinicals or certain "priorities". I'm sure you would do the same for them if they had a parent dying of cancer, a sick child, were pregnant or some other personal reason that meant they needed certain concessions for a short time. If you want to graduate on time, you will do whatever needs to be done. Here's hoping those around you will be supportive, understanding and empathic.
  15. Anyone recommend good books/cds to use to study for CCRN. Hubby wants to take the exam and I wanted to surprise him with some study guides (OK, i'm a pushy wife
  16. First of all CONGRATULATIONS!! I am really interested in applying there for 9/06. Any tips on what helped you secure a placement? What was the interview like? Any information you can provide would be much appreciated. Good luck for the start of your career!
  17. Thanks for your respons. I wasn't planning to apply until next year. Are you currently attending this program? If so, what's it like and what was the application/interview process like? Thanks
  18. I'm looking for some agency/per diem work to supplement my other job. Anyone know of any good agencies to work for in Northern Jersey (I'm in Bergen county)? Can you give me an idea of what is reasonable to expect- i.e. hourly rate. I am currently an ICU nurse with 2 years experience. Thanks
  19. Anyone applied to any of the schools in NJ? I am thinking of applying there but know that one school (the one in Newark) is a brand new program and am not sure whether it's formally accredited? Anyone have any information on this school. Thanks
  20. Just wanted to respond because my mother had a liver transplant 5 years ago that saved her life (I'm not the RN - that's hubby whose shoulder I tend to read over). The operation was done in England where there was never any concern about her getting a liver, the docs told us right from the beginning not to worry about that as one always came in. And they were right, it did. It's sad that that is not the case in the USA - more people should step up to the plate and donate. All of my friends joined the organ donor list after she had her transplant because they were so moved by the experience. Anyway, a little off topic but you just touched a subject after my heart.
  21. Hi all. for those of you who applied to schools and got in with only a year's experience, did you apply when you actually had the year's experience or can you apply earlier given that you will have the experience by the interview. I know i read somewhere that someone was accepted with 8 months experience only? I just moved from the step down icu to the icu and am trying to decide when the earliest i could reasonably apply would be. Most programs in my area begin in September. Thanks for any input, especially from people with experience.
  22. I am a critical care nurse on a step down unit wanting to get pertinent ICU experience. I keep getting promised transfers that never seem to happen in my current position and am thinking of trying a different hospital. Can anyone recommend any good teaching hospitals in NY/NJ where I could gain great ICU experience before applying to anesthetist programs? Thanks for any info.
