YIKES! I have already bought my books based on the letter they sent. I got them from Amazon. I sure hope they are enough like the new ones so we can keep them!

West Central Technical College Fall 2009 Students
Hi RNmydreams, I am going into the RN program at WGTC (formerly WCTC before the merger) this fall. I can't tell you what the program is like yet since I am just starting and I really have not had the chance to talk to any of the current RN students. I will definitely know soon though. September 30th will be our first day. I personally chose WCTC because it is close to my home, it is easy to choose a class schedule that works for me, and they have a high graduate rate and pass rate on the NCLEX. Also, I can get my degree sooner since I am going for an Associates degree vs. a BS. I feel like you, I have a passion to be in healthcare and want to get out there as soon as I can. I can always go back and work on a higher degree in the future. WGTC. As far as whether to choose LPN or RN, I really don't know what to say about that. From what I am told, RN pay is higher than LPN, but with a higher degree of responsibility as well. Check with me a few months from now and I will have more to tell, and maybe an LPN will comment too. The programs at WGTC are very competitive...you will work your rear end off but it is such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment in the end! I am looking forward to a very rewarding career in Nursing! Good Luck!

West Central Technical College Fall 2009 Students
Regarding the shoes, since we are only going to be on our feet like that two days a week I figured I would start out with less expensive shoes first, and if I see they hurt my feet I will try something else. I think they will be fine though. There are two or three nurses in my Speech class that will be going into their second year. As soon as I get the chance I am going to talk to them and see if they can tell me a little more about what we can expect. I am thrilled and counting down the days!!!!!:)

West Central Technical College Fall 2009 Students
Hey Everyone! I, too, am excited about starting the RN program on Sept 30th. I have purchased my books (Amazon), the shoes I got were just "New Balance" tennis shoes (for walking), I think I pd about $45.00 at the Shoe Dept. in the mall, and I am waiting on my uniforms to arrive. OH, I still have to get my 2nd TB test done (next week) and my Adacel vaccine. I can't wait to register on Aug 10th! I hope that we will find out more that week on when the junior/senior luncheon is. I found a rolling type bag at Kohls on sale for $50-$60, but I am going to check around. I am pretty sure that I will get one that rolls! Does anyone have a PDA? I heard from a couple of other nursing students that they can be used during clinicals, I just don't know how much better it would be with one vs. using our books. I am still taking classes, are any of you all? I have Humanities and Speech this quarter, and Humanities is VERY demanding right now! I am so ready to get these classes over with and start nursing! Talk to you guys more later on!

What PDA/ Smartphone are you guys currently using?
Thanks HJS27 & shannahan! I really appreciate your input and I am looking forward to getting my itouch!

What PDA/ Smartphone are you guys currently using?
My husband has an iphone and it is great! The problem is that I am with Verizon and two months ago upgraded my phone to a Dare, so I am stuck with that for another term. I am considering the IPod Touch. Is that as sufficient as the IPhone except it does not have phone or camera capabilities? I want to purchase it and use it as a PDA in my clinicals but I want to make sure that I can download all of the books and info that I will need for clinicals. This will be my first year of nursing school starting in September so I am new to all of this. Thanks for your help!

What PDA/ Smartphone are you guys currently using?
Hey! I am going into nursing school this fall. I have started to get information regarding PDA's etc.. and I see that you have mentioned the IPod Touch. Does it have the capability of downloading all of the stuff we will need for our clinicals? My school says we can use a PDA type device but I wasn't sure if the IPod Touch had the same capabilities as the IPhone or Blacberry. Can you tell me what you have found out regarding their capabilities? Thanks!

West Central Tech. RN uniform order
Hey Sheri644, You can order with or without a collar, what ever you prefer. I was told by the company if you have two days of clinicals, then just get two uniforms. I placed my order but the student patch has not been approved yet by the school (because of the switch over to West Ga. Tech). I was only able to get my pants and was told to re-order my shirts around August. I also ordered my stethoscope from there along with the bandage scissors. After getting my scissors, I found out that you could get those from Tractor Supply for a little more than $1. On the website they are over $5. I am going to purchase a couple more pair from Tractor Supply incase I lose a pair. I hear that it happens often! Hope this helps!

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
Lucky you! I am taking Sociology now, and for the summer quarter I have to take Humanities and Speech (I am not looking forward to it). Did you take Humanities? I was wondering what to expect. I wish I had known that Sociology was going to be easy and I would have taken Speech with it to get it out of the way. As far as the PDA's, I don't really know. This may sound stupid but what do they actually use PDA's for (specifically relating to nursing). Like is it just for access to the internet? I am thinking maybe a blackberry would do just as well? I say that because I am getting ready to upgrade my cell phone next week.

Have you taken Microbiology yet? You will need that before you can start the program in the fall. Aside from ENG, ALG, A&P I, A&P II, PSYC I, you will also need Microbiology (must be completed before the fall), SCT 100, Speech, ENG II (or humanities, history, music, or art), Sociology, and your second Psychology which is Human Development.

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
Hey KC, I scored a 92 on the NLN. It really depends on what your competition is scoring (which no one has a way of really knowing for sure). If you have a great GPA and a good interview, I think you would be fine with a 91 score. You've got plenty of time to try it again though, and you can turn in your best score.

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
I wish I knew because I would like to start getting them. I know it is still really early though. I am so excited about October, but I really need to be concentrating on the rest of this quarter and summer too! I still have two classes to take during the summer. It is hard to focus on anything else when all I can think about is the RN program.

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
I have not heard of any deadline but I am just guessing to have everything done before beginning in October. It will only take a few days for the background check to process so you really have plenty of time. By the way, the background costs $74 (if that was not already told in our paperwork). It includes your drug screen too. As far as anything else, I heard from someone that we will be getting more info on what to have for our first day. We might get that when we enroll in August. I don't know for sure.

When you go online to submit and pay for your background check, within a few days after, they will send you an email with a form for you to print and take with you to Lab Corp. I am guessing that everyone will go to the same Lab Corp location which was in Carrollton. Then again, they may choose one that is closest to you depending upon where you live. I am not sure on that.

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
I have already got my background check and also went this morning to Lab Corp for my drug screen. I have not tried to meet with anyone, but another student that was accepted sent an email to the instructors and got a reply back. They basically are not sure at this point how things will be done, but they think that you will only meet with them if you have questions. Things are not concrete yet with the procedures so I have just been working on the background/drug screen and my physical/immunizations. It is very vague and I don't think any of us are quite sure right now.

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
Hey Hopeful, what is the Luncheon all about? I am so excited and it is killing me just wondering about how everything is going to take place. I know that we need to "register" for the program in August, what is that like? At what point do we start buying our books, uniforms and all of the "good stuff"? Sorry for all of the questions, it will just give me something to think about between now and October. Talk to you soon!

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
Hey Charlie2410, welcome to the site! You just need to do as good as you can on everything! Right now WCTC goes by your scores on the NLN (which you want to be in the 90 or above percentile), your GPA, and interview. The NLN is composed of a verbal, math, and science section. You have a one hour time limit on each section. I recommend buying a NLN study guide. The NLN counts for 50% of your overall score, GPA is 25%, and the interview is 25%. Getting into the program is definitely competitive so go after it with all you got! There are people who get in with less than 4.0 GPA or less than 90 on the NLN, it just depends on the competition so you really want to work very hard and do as well as you possibly can. Hope this helps, stay in touch with this website you will really learn a lot, and I wish you the best of luck in this wonderful journey!

I got accepted into West Central Tech!!!
They sent an envelope with a letter explaining what to do, a form to fill out and return whether you accept or not, a trifold paper about PSI screening (background check), your final scores, a physical form for your doctor to fill out, and of course the "congratulations" letter. This was an answer for "Blessed", please forgive me I still have not figured out how to properly post things on here...I'm working on it!

Completed West Central Tech Nursing Program Interview Today!
Hey all! And good luck! I interviewed yesterday. I was so nervous since I was the first to go in! I thought the interview went well other than my heart pounding 90 miles an hour, but then afterwards I start thinking about all of the things that I should have said or forgot to say! Well, it's over now and all we can do is wait! I really wish everyone the best of luck and I hope we all see each other in the program this fall. Right now, the anticipation is killing me!

Hey you guys! I just registered on this website, but I have been following some of your comments. I too have received an interview letter from WCTC. Mine is scheduled for April 27 from 9:00-12:00. I am so excited but very nervous too!
