I feel for all of you out there not finding a job. I have an AS degree in Paralegal Studies, a BA degree in Legal Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice, speak two languages no not Spanish and that is my downfall here in Florida. I can not find work without experience. At this point reading all these comments here I am not even considering Nursing school anymore. I don't want to do all the work and spent money only to be looking for work again. I have been out of work since 2007, and many people look into Nursing out of desperation which can be a big mistake. Pretty soon the health care field will shed more jobs, more and more people are unemployed, underemployed and can not afford health care. States are making major cuts in Medicare and Medicaid and Florida is leading by example privatizing hospitals and health clinics. With the economy not recovering a total collapse of the economy is inevitable. Astronomical gas prices force people to decide between gas, food, lights and health care. So I suggest to think very long and hard before committing many hours and thousands of dollars feeding schools. I learned that colleges sell you all these job opportunities that may not exist, they are educational dealerships. Again, I have learned the electricians trade in Europe and the way people are trained over there just gives people a better chance for work. People Germany work for three years daily in the health field and attend school one day a week. After three years you have a well educated and well trained professional. Why don't we do that here? Greed and nearsightedness of employers not willing to invest long term in its work force. I am sure each and everyone of you here is dedicated has done all the hard work only to be denied a job because you are lacking experience. It is saddening to read these posts here of people not finding work. I wish all of you the best.

I am sorry to hear that it is gut wrenching and angering to see the starvtion and destruction of a work force. Now during these economic hard ships employers can play these games but once the economy gets better and skilled people are needed they are either gone and chaged careers or their skills are obsolete. That is the time when employers start crying again for skilled cheap foreign Nurses or skilled labor. I like the way Europe trains its work force. They train their work force while they work during their time of studies and then go once a week to school. So after three years you have a fully trained, skilled, experienced and licensed individual. We are so cheap by not investing into our work force an issue that will come to haunt us. Well it already has. We lost our status as #1, our educational has slipped to #12 in the world. Other countries have heavily invested in education and training and we see the results right now, we are not anywhere near as competitive anymore. Now that does not help your situation. You may have to try looking for a job in another State of start out as a CNA and gain basic experience. Employers only want perfect people, I feel bad for you, I and many others are in the same boat. Don't give up and best of luck.

It is over and over the same and I am sick and tired of it. I have a BA degree in Legal Studies but no one hired me since I had no experience. Then I went on and earned my RN license but no one hires, they all want experience. In addition here in Florida they want you to be bilingual. Well I am but I don't speak Spanish. That means I won't repay my student loans I already started the forgiveness process. Great system.

What can I say. A Nurse without a brain is dangerous and what is "more than your brain"? How many doctors are in the profession for the money? I know several. How many Lawyers are in the legal field for the money? As a legal studies major I know quiet a few. How many people are enrolling right now in the Nursing program because they can not find jobs? You can have a passion for Nursing but if you can not make any intelligent decisions in critical situations, what good is your passion? There is no need to read your links since you admitted that 8000 jobs in the medical field have been created. This means there is demand. Not sure where you went to school but you certainly were not studying hard or not smart enough. I just have to look through job sites and I type in Nurses and there are endless job offers.

RN2BDFW, do some research before you post and you will clearly, I repeat clearly come to the conclusion that there is a severe shortage of Nurses in the United States. Just the number of Nurses coming into the US from other countries speaks for itself. During this severe economic crisis a huge number of Visas are given to foreign Nurses this would not be the case if we had enough Nurses. Another clear indicator is the salary Nurses are earning and here comes Economics into place. Demand and supply. A shortage creates a higher salary, that is why Nurses are making more money than Electricians for example and it takes four years to become an Electrician. Now, you will have the opportunity to learn all about economics in your GenEd. courses and by the way I took some Paralegal courses at a Community College and they were quite tough to crack, no offense.

What can I say? Attend a University get a BA Degree and then an MA Degree and you will know what I am talking about. First of all you receive a more thorough education when it comes to writing, you develop critical thinking skills and more weight is given to research skills. I just finished my prerequisites A&P I and II, Microbiology and Psychology. It was strongly recommended for students with no prior medical background to take some prep classes. Well, I finished all my classes on top with perfect scores whereas, REAL freshmen struggled with the courses. That is the difference, you develop better study skills in a more demanding and rigorous environment. Again, as far as I am concerned I am no freshman. I have 187 credit hours in higher education and was three years in a row in the top 10% of the Nation. Other countries accept your degree completely and treat you that way too. I understand that I have to take certain classes in order to get my Nursing degree but I am tired having to wait to sign up for classes because some students have 40 some credit hours at our community college and I have only 29 while my University hours don't count and I am the better student as well. Another difference is, we had for 150 students only one skeleton and one heart to study. So this is the difference I am trying to explain here. It is like going from 1st Division down to 2nd division if the economy was not that bad I would not even bother with that degree and go for my Ph.D. but it is rough to get jobs with a Ph.D. too. I know I am getting hate mail from all the brainless patriots for this but here we are again, the US needs Nurses and is not capable of offering enough seats for students. I disagree with waiting lists. American colleges are just a joke. I have a BA Degree with a 3.9 GPA and an MA with a 3.7 GPA but I am listed as a freshman what an absolute insult because I dumbed down to a Community College where I am new and seeking a different degree. They accepted only classes towards the Nursing degree, makes me feel like I accomplished nothing living in this greatest Nation as the patriots always say where performance and accomplishments don't matter. FLmomo5 your comment leads me to believe that you are lacking severe economic, English reading and history understanding. First of all outsourcing 14 million jobs for cheap labor is not an economic down turn it is the systematic destruction of a work force. As to your comment with Obama, well we borrowed money to finance wars, finance banks, finance the credit bubble and financed the wealthy. Now, I would like to address the point I made in my post which you seem not to have the ability to understand. Here it goes once more. There is a severe shortage of Nurses in the US and new grads can not find jobs do you see the contradiction here? Nurses are not being hired for lack of experience not because of an economic downturn understand that? If you go to a hospital in our area you see that a majority of Nurses are from foreign country while our Nurses are not being hired for lack of experience-Am I patriotic enough or do you want me to throw out of the country again? Read how much incomes have dropped for college grads over the last 10 years. Please read how many college grads can not find work here not because the economy went down, this has been going on for many years. Please read how many college grads are fleeing the country because they can not pay back their student loans. 35 000 Americans in Prague alone speak for themselves. hard works is not being rewarded here anymore. Incomes have stagnated over the last 20 years. Hard working people can not afford health care, education, housing, no retirement, a lousy week paid vacation. Again, this is not my comment Americans are the #1 job hoppers in the world. I have seen people switch jobs for a $0.50 raise. Americans have the highest work absence rate in the world because they are being worked in the ground. By the way did my thesis on that subject. Now I will make this simple. Shortage of Nurses means demand is there-new grads available to meet shortage but not hired means something is wrong. By the way just stating that there is something wrong here does not mean I do not like this country and should feel free to leave. After all my dad gave 22 years of his live to the US Army and I gave 4 years to the US Marine Corps, my father in law gave 35 years to the CIA and my brother in law is about to retire from the US Army after 25 years. What I am saying is that we as citizens deserve a little bit better hope this is not to hard to understand for you. Enjoy the weekend.

In addition I would like to ad another comment. I wrote my comment after having read all the comments from other students graduating from Nursing school and not able to find a job because they have no experience. They went through all this hard work, studying, interning, taking time off from their families and most importantly accumulated quiet some debt due to student loans. I feel for all of them and here is the irony. We always hear that there is a shortage of Nurses in the US. Now, I am confused or may be it is my lack of patrionism according to you what is wrong with this picture? Here in Sarasota they laid off American nurses and then they stopped hiring nurses went to the State complaining they can not find nurses in order to get cheap foreign nurses in here. Education is the backbone of society.

First of all thank you for your comment. Yes, I am a US citizen and I spent many years abroad and had the luxury to attend very good schools. I have found that other countries invest way more in the education and training of their work force then we do. For example, many students in the US obtain an A.S Degree or B.A. Degree and after graduation they are left out looking for a job that has either been outsourced or companies do not want to train people. They are mainly looking for people with experience. How do you get experience if no one hires you? Prior attending college I was trained as an electrician in Germany. It was the best training in the world. I came back to the US in 1996, and was hired right away by General Motors and four months later was put in charge of the electrical maintenance department. My German journeyman's license, education, training and knowledge placed me above our Master electrician. Now, when I tried to take the time to teach our apprentices certain techniques I was ridiculed for wasting time. I have seen apprentices that could not pass their journeyman's exam after four years because we allowed them to do only entry level work. Yes, one must criticize and analyze himself in order to get better. Our American dream world thinking that we are the best has lead to the demise of our status as an industrial nation and leader in technology. We are still using 1970's technology while other countries like Slovakia for example now have faster internet than we do. What I am trying to say is that education will not protect you in this country anymore and yes after my experiences I am down having gone through all this education. I would like to give you a hint. Educate yourself and read how many qualified students, graduates and professionals are unemployed today or can not find a job because our companies are not willing to invest in training our work force. Further think about where this will lead us, why we have become this way. The ignorance of people here strikes me at times. We are economically a sinking ship but the party goes on and everybody thinks we are the greatest, the best and invincible. Now, I leave you with some fuel for thought. It is heart breaking to read all these posts here. I have a BA degree and could not land a job in the legal field because I had no experience. I was in the top 10% of the nation for three years in a row. I graduated from Nursing school last year in May and it is the same all over they want experienced Nurses only. In other country they do on the job training while you go to school. The US sucks.

You do not need a nurse attorney you need a very good criminal defense attorney.

I have had a DUI 12 years ago with property damage and leaving the scene of an accident ( went to call the ambulance). It has cost me dearly. I wanted to go to law school and was turned down by all of them. I tried to enter a career in law enforcement and was turned down by all of them. I can not even get a job as a pizza delivery driver due to insurance reasons even though I am a safe driver again. I recently applied for admission to take my RN license and the BON of Florida turned me down too. I hired a lawyer but it did not go anywhere. The BON can make its decision discretionary, it reserved a gray area where they can turn down anybody if they want to. It is nowhere spelled out in the Florida Statutes or rules that it will exclude you but it also does not say it will allow to become an RN. I contacted all law schools prior applying and they all stated it does not necessary exclude me but after I applied and $1500 later on application fees I was turned down by all of them. Now, I contacted the BON before entering Nursing school and tried to pry out information but it was always the same "should" not exclude you "but" the Board decides. Needless to say I am drowning in student loan debts (BA Degree, AS Degree Nursing) but can not find any decent employment. I am not looking for sympathy, I admit to having made this mistake years ago and his literally destroyed me for good. Education is no protection. I have decided to leave the US and use my Nursing education elsewhere. So, I hope this helped somewhat. What I am trying to say is it is a difficult and costly decision to make. My lawyer got this much info out of the BOB, that years ago it may have been a different story but with so many people applying for an RN license they can pick and chose the best suitable candidates. I am so tired of all these little idiot tests. During my career I was confronted with LSAT, GMAT, TEAS, TABE, SAGE and god knows what else. I had the fortune to be educated in Europe and nowhere do they test you like an little child after you graduate from High School or University like here. My BA Degree from the US was sufficient to get me into law schools in England and Germany without any stupid tests. I think academic performance at a high school or University is above these childish tests. It is a poor indicator about a persons ability and a distrust in our own educational system. Believe me I did poorly in my SAT's oh here is another one, and was told that I would not survive college. I graduated CUM LAUDE in the top 10 % of the country. These tests are just money makers for a broken educational system. Good luck to all of you.
