New np beware
I agree with WKshadowRN, I hit the ground running and talked to as many people as possible, including cold calls by recruiters. There were some not so promising interviews but I felt like it was good experience/practice. I was lucky enough to have 4 offers, and only one of those was from a preceptor, the other was PT, and the last two I had a tough time deciding between. Hang in there, it's not easy but nothing ever is! Don't settle!

New Grad...2 offers
Went with offer #1, amd couldn't be happier!

Credentialing
Currently awaiting for the whole credentialing process to be completed as well. They let me start working and I am basically just shadowing the MD. I'm really learning alot, but feel like I'm useless. They won't even give me computer access where I can at least see patients and complete a note and have the doc sign off on it. I wish I could help more.

Salary and Negotiation
The hospital system that just hired me offered loan repayment but I was lucky enough to make it through grad school on tuition reimbursement and then landed a grad assistant position. I'm in the NE.

NP in Nursing Home/SNF
Just started my second week and I know I am really going to love what I do when I'm finally set free! In addition to the two SNF we started discussing the possibility of inpatient consults, but this wouldn't happen until I am firmly secure in my primary role, but I think it would a great opportunity and would love to do it.

NP in Nursing Home/SNF
Hi Vulpes Vulpes, I am in the same exact boat as you! I will be starting my new position in a few weeks. They are letting me start before the credentialing process is completed so I will have like a 45 to 60 day orientation, which I am pretty stoked about. I will be responisble for 2 facilities, one is owned by the hospital, and I will be working with 2 docs and they are in the process of recruiting for a third. The docs are responisble for all new admissions, so my docs will be at the facilities to at least do those. I am the first NP to join this group so it will be a trial by error, not sure if we are going to have set rounding times during the week or not. Sorry I don't have many answers to your questions, just that I am in the same boat as a new grad! Good luck!

NEWCOMER seeking some help!
I would look into a BSN express program since you already have a bachelor's degree. Most run 15-18 months. Not sure what the price difference would be compares to an ADN, but would open your options up when pursuing your MSN. Good luck!

New Grad...2 offers
Update: Offer one came back with salary 100k and 15k retention bonus after 15 months.

New Grad...2 offers
I countered offer one so fingers crossed for good news! They don't offer any type of bonus incentives for NP's or PA's so the only thing they can offer is a bump in salary. I do feel this opportunity will be a better learning experience, 3 docs and myself, so hopefully they bump the offer up! Thanks for advice Jules A!

New Grad...2 offers
You bring up a great point Jules A. I think I'm so excited to even be in a situation with two offers that I'm missing some of the negatives. I tried to negotiate with offer 1 and was shut down quickly so I think it would be pointless to say hey can you match this offer. I'm just nervous of making the wrong decision.

New Grad...2 offers
So I posted in the salary and negotiation thread that I was just about to accept my first offer...well I just received another offer today! This new offer is from one of my clinical rotations and I honestly thought I was going to work there right after graduation but it fell through and I pursued other options. I am an AGNP and they are both in the SNF setting. Offer #1 Large healthcare system working with Geriatric team Salary 98k, no bonus On-call every 4th week, no compensation Health/Dental/Vision 401k with 4% match 28 days PTO 6 holidays 5 CME days and 1500 Offer #2 Subsidiary of a large insurance company Salary 106k, with potential bonus paid quarterly No call, no w/e Health/Dental/Vision 401k with 4% match 23 days PTO 8 holidays 4 CME days and 2000 With offer number one I will be the first NP with this team although all docs have worked with NP's before. They understand that I am a new grad and wouldn't be expected to take call for 3 months. I am not expected to see a certain amount of patients a day rather it depends on acuity. Offer number 2 is a more defined role, with intense documentation that is scrutinized. I have 1 classmate that started a month ago and raves about the support and training provided. I'm torn between the two because I know what to expect with offer two but feel offer one may be a slower pace but I don't know because currently there isn't anyone doing it. Plus compensation with number two is better and there is no call. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Salary and Negotiation
I am a new grad and am about to accept an offer. I will be working with a large healthcare system in their 2 post-acute rehab facilities. City/State: Suburbs of Phila., PA (Healthcare system) Years in current position: 0 Salary: 98k Benefits: 28 days PTO, 6 holidays, 1 week CME and $1500, 401k with matching, health/dental, paid license/DEA, Malpractice with tail coverage, and cell phone Bonus: None and no on call pay which is every 4th week Negotiation tips: I tried to negotiate a higher base because of the lack of bonus potential or on call pay but was told 98k was the highest they could go and then they threw in the cell phone. I'm glad I tried, I wish they would have budged a little but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I did have two other offers but they were both part time and didn't include any benefits at all. The salary is pretty much in line for what some of my classmates have been offered. I really liked the docs that I interviewed with and feel they will be really great and understand that they have a new grad on their hands.

NP Pay
I'm a new grad and recently had an interview with a smaller hospital. I would be responsible for the patients in their 2 SNF's. The interview went really well and I got positive feedback from the recruiter that they would be in touch within a week. Today she called and said they were asking what my salary requirements were. I told her based on what some of my classmates have disclosed and what I have found online that 100 to 105k is reasonable. There was a long awkward pause and she was like ok I will let them know but from the few new grads I have placed in the past they usually start at 85 to 90k. I don't know where she is pulling her numbers because I have spoken to new grads in the area and they are in fact making 15 to 20k more than that. I guess we will see if and what they offer me. It's so hard as a new grad to not jump at first offer because you're so scared you won't find something else but I don't think I can sell myself short.

Pennsylvania CRNA vs NP
In my area anyway, they are admitting people to start in 2019. I'm sure it varies by region, my mistake.

Need your opinion on a matter I posted on a facebook forum
My pharm class exams were all blue book...all essay, short answer, and drawing diagrams. It was a challenge but the teacher was amazing and I RETAINED the information!

Pennsylvania CRNA vs NP
I believe the accrediting body for CRNA's is going to require a DNP by 2021. My last semester in NP school I was at the open house and the director of graduate studies was speaking about it. I think its an extra 18 months of schooling and since most CRNA schools are full until 2019 this would probably pertain to you. Acute Care NP may be another route for you as well with your background. Good luck!

Any Optum NPs out there?
I did clinical with Optum and a few of my classmates have taken a position with them. Did you ever end up working there?

I just applied for mine so I can let you know how long it takes for me.

Anyone taken the AANP in 2017?!
I took it and passed on 12/23. I don't think it changes every year but there are different formats. I felt like I had a lot of GYN questions (teen, older adults, std's). I also feel like I had 5 vaccine questions. I didn't really do anything special, just reviewed Leik and did all the questions. Her exam tips at the end of each chapter were really helpful and I had two questions in the test that were answered there. Have you taken a review course? I know they are pricey but they also help alot of people. Good luck!!

DEA license, apply now or when offered a job?
I have been applying everywhere and working with a couple recruiters. I also reached out to some preceptor and professors. I actually have a phone interview tomorrow, so fingers crossed! There are lots of positions posted for my area, just seems impossible to break through the new grad barriers. I'm still waiting for my state license to be processed. I feel like I'm at a standstill, no interviews lined up, no studying, I'm just waiting for someone, anyone to contact me!

DEA license, apply now or when offered a job?
Hello all! Just looking for some advice in regards to DEA licensing. Graduated and passed my boards in December and in process of waiting for state NP license. Once I have all of that do you recommend applying for a DEA license before or after securing a job? In school they said we should have it included in contracts but I'm just wondering if that's for the renewal and that you are expected to have it before you start. Just trying to find a job and want all my ducks in a row! I thought I had a job lined up with one of my clinical sites but due to some "structural changes" I'm now scrambling. Thanks for any help!

UHC NP job info
I recently had a couple of interviews with them, but for long term care. I'm also located in the NE. Package seemed pretty nice for a new grad...104k base with potential for 10% bonus, 4 weeks PTO, 1 week CME and 2500. Was told I was a strong candidate but they are undergoing structural changes and are unable to hire at this point. Pretty disappointing, said they would keep me updated on any changes and to stay in contact. Not sure if it was a polite brush off or not. Good Luck!

ACNP.. non-certified but wanting to be!
My guess is you would have to get a post-master's to be eligible to sit for the current certifications. Fingers crossed that it went well for you!!
