  1. Good luck guys and gals, I was in your position a year and a half ago before being admitted to the part time track. I am in the OB section now with 3 more to go. This is going to be the most challenging, rewarding, and aggravating experience of your life. For those that make it in congrats and for those who don't keep applying. Teachers you want are Ragnone, Hackie, Labarr, Antonella, TiwaMediae. To name a few STAY AWAY FROM "COONS" In Pharmacology consider yourself warned. If you think your proud and the best and want a challenge fine take her, but do not cry when you fail and have to reapply to nursing school and waste an entire year of all the hard work for you to get here. Good luck classmates
  2. Hello people, I just survived the 1st semester at CSN. You are in for a bumpy road. Remember the day you got so excited because of your phone call and picking up your letter? Well reality is about to smack you. Make good friends like I did and stick together it will be harder on you if you try to do it alone. I wish you all the best 1st semester. Keep your eye on the prize. If nobody told you C's get degrees shoot for an A but don't beat yourself up for a B or a C. A recruiter is not going to care whether you got an A or C in Nurs 101. Again good luck to you all STUDY
  3. don't pick up any other classes you will have your hands full it may be only 8 but it's a heavy load
  4. Well can't speak for the full timers but we started with 22 applicants in the Part Time Program and we still have 22 applicants in the Part Time program and were in our 7th week and just finished the second round of testing between Pharm and Lecture
  5. Good luck everyone, Were in our 4th week of 1st semester and it's no joke! They throw a ton of stuff at you and its very over whelming. Keep your head down your mouth shut and study study study...
  6. registered nut. don't buy into rumors. they will drive you crazy listen to an experienced applicant of this madness. the dead line has come and gone in a week go ask limited entry how many apps were received they will tell you. there nice in there. but ask the limited entry lady not her assistant. the assistant will tell you some astronomical number not even close to the actual. then base your odds on your current points situation. have a glass of wine if your old enough and try to patiently wait. when that day does come that you get that phone call it is like winning the lottery. i saved the voice mail and listened to it at least 30 times. i wish all the luck that was given to me getting in i hope goes to you because i was lucky.
  7. I was rather fortunate in that everyone who listened to the health adviser opted not to apply. This caused a lack of applicants and there where more seats for part time and full time than applicants so all you needed to do was have your ducks all lined up and you where in. I should actually thank that adviser if she didn't give garbage advise to everyone I might not have got in early. So "Thank you health adviser you know who! Thank you! keep giving that great advise so people that are willing to gamble and take a little risk will have opportunity.
  8. The jobs are there keep your head up..
  9. lets all not get upset yet the economy will come back we have had many recessions before this one is no different
  10. Good luck everybody
  11. Thank you
  12. Apply as soon as you have all your general ed's complete. I did not listen to that one adviser. I got in with only 12 points. I was about to finish A&P 2 and Micro but the deadline was prior to the end of the semester so the points could not be counted for those classes. A lot of people last semester were dissatisfied with that adviser's advice. I had my meeting with her and I tell you it was great we sat down and she said "So, how was A&P and Micro?" I said "I passed its on your screen there." She said "yes you did good job, now we can take the TEAS so you can apply for Spring next year." I said "No" she looked confused. It was rather funny "What do you mean, No?" I said I already took the TEAS and Passed and applied to Nursing school for Fall and got in so I think this meeting is over now thank you for all your wonderful advice on waiting to apply" Then I left. Moral of the story is apply as soon as you can. There is no limit on how many times you can apply and the worst thing they can say is no. But the best thing they can say is YES like they told me Mr. 12 points. Hope this helps all my future nursing student colleagues.
  13. Yes,,,, Like Mia said above. Apply as soon as you can. Do not listen to the Health Advisor if I listened to her I would not of applied until Spring. I did anyway and have been accepted with 12 points. Thats right folks 12. I just finished 224 and 251 and now I am 100% general ed complete and starting Nursing school in the fall not spring like the health advisor said. Some good advice that was given to me by my fiance and the limited entry lady " You can not apply and it's a guaranteed No, or you can apply and you might get IN even if you don't you can reapply" sounded like good advice to me. I am now a nursing student. Hope this helps all of my future RN classmates
  14. Just got my call see you all in the fall!!!!!
  15. From all my nurse friends that I spoke to. It depends on your preference Union hospitals guarantee increases at set rates, Health benefit premiums and protection from bad supervisors. Non union places offer better wages much better as you will see when you find a position but no protection. I want to work in the Valley system at Summerlin or Centennial Hills. Or in the Roses I would want San Martin or Siena. One is union the other is not It all depends on your preference and work environment. I am a very positive person and I call people out on stuff. It's just my way I don't mean anything by it. I dont want to work in a unit with a bunch of negative people. The job is hard enough you need support from co-workers sometimes and RN's that canabolize each other in there units is not cool. Oh in Southern Hills the Day Charge in the ER is an awesome guy you could not ask for a better charge nurse. You have 15 years critical care.. You could trip and fall into a job you will be fine we need seasoned nurses it's us newbies when we graduate that need to make friends with the managers and show we know our stuff to get our foot in the door. as for pay from my friends that are already RNs with your experience you could probably negotiate about $40-$45 an hour. I am not sure about signing bonuses. You are very right in that the shortage is not as extreme as it was, but it's still there. Hope that helps
