New Grad Definition
Say a new grad accepts a position in a nursing home or clinic and works there for 6 months to 1 year. To transition to acute care, would they no longer be considered a new grad, and therefore would have to compete for jobs alongside nurses with acute care experience for positions that would require X amount of acute care experience? Is it better for new grads to turn down clininc or nursing home positions if they plan to be in acute care?

Brookline College Accelerated Nursing Program
I learned that the hard way. Ended up having to pay for 1 week of school. $1,800. Because I found out the first week that their accreditation was misleading. Because I had completed 5 days of class they charged me!

New grad as preceptor and charge nurse?
I'm just going on 2 years as a telemetry nurse. I was asked to precept a student as well. I'm feeling as you are- of all people to ask, would I be most beneficial to a student? I would hate for the student to feel short changed. That is my biggest concern- how much confidence will the student have in me with so many other more experienced nurses on the unit?

The young eating their young
Easy answer- it's a ******* contest in some new nurses minds. Shameful but true. Who can **** the farthest. Tune it out and keep on trucking. Good luck

Things we think that we do not say... humorous...
Always wanted to tell the immobile overweight or paraplegic pt that insists on being nasty --- if you can't do it for yourself, don't tell me to hurry up

new grad 6 months on the job- 2 med errors-1 pyxis error
shoot me now! i feel so defeated and on the verge of tears. made my second true med error tonight. just 2 weeks ago my manager spoke to me about a med error. here's the scoop: first error was made during an override in the pyxis. i selected the wrong patient but gave the correct med and dose to the correct patient. i realized the error and wrote an incident report. my boss asked if i learned form the error and what could i do to make sure it doesn't happen again. i got let off easy. second error was made because an old dose of BP med was not D/c'd on the MAR and a new dose was written. this resulted in 3 doses instead of 2. one transcription used the brand name and the other used the generic and i didn't catch it. scheduled for 2 different time and other BP meds ordered as well. wrote an incident report again and called the doctor. my boss once again coached me and gave me pointers and a warning to protect my license:nono:. i walked away telling myself "i cannot make another med error" third error was a stupid stupid error:banghead: gave potassium when the parameters were to hold if will i have a job after this? will i be trusted after this? will i trust myself? will my coworkers feel comfortable following behind me? im sure i wont sleep tonight wondering if my boss will grow impatient with me. what happens if i make another mistake with meds? i need advice suggestions. PS- the other new grads on my unit are doing just swell:(

Frustrated discouraged new grad
I am a new grad on a stroke/telemetry unit. I am really feeling overwhelmed. I am one of about 5 new grads. I am the only PM swing new grad. My problem is that I do about 30 minutes overtime almost every day. I cant seem to get out on time with the other vetrans. I have no other new grad to compare my progress with because they are not on my shift and I was hired before them so they are still orienting. The only one before me works 12 hour grave shift. She says she always gets her work done on time. I have also overlooked a medication for a patient and the grave nurse had to give it on her shift. My charge nurse pulled me aside and told me to manage my time better which almost brought me to tears. She said to pay more attention to detail so that people wont talk about me behind my back once I'm gone- which makes me wonder if that has already been the case. I went home last night feeling like total "code brown". I need any advice in time management or encouragement or similar experiences..............

HELP ATI comprehensive predictor :/
I took the TEAS test in Contra Costa County California. I dont know about all the other nurse entrance exams but the TEAS test I took was not worth studying for. I was extremely stressed and my stomach was surely secreting too much acid, but the test was honestly a breeze. Dont fret.

which study manual is best for TEAS test?
please help- I take the TEAS test in early April. I purchased the Kaplan study manual for all nursing entrance exams. I read somewhere that the study guide provided by ATI was not very helpful. So far the manual seems pretty inclusive of most subjects covered in the 11th and 12th grade but i need to be sure. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with using the wrong manual? Also- i hear that the test is pretty simple but why are so many people failing? even after having gone through all the pre-req's? I am trying not to get too anxious. any advice on the study manuals???
