  1. Thanks for all the advice everyone!! I'm going to have awesome cheat sheets now!!
  2. I've been having the same problem but I think its the ride home that is causing the headache...
  3. Hi everyone!! I am a new nurse that just got hired to a med/surg floor. I wanted to make a "cheat sheet" for important information I should always have on hand such as important extensions, some labs, ect... Is there anything that the more seasoned nurses can advise for me to put on my cheat sheet that I may find handy?? Thanks everyone!!
  4. Also, as a side note. The day that I wrote this post I went to the career center at school to meet with the nursing career advisor. I wish I had done this before because she e-mails me almost everyday about job openings, nurse recruiters names and e-mails, nursing job fairs, ect... If you have one at school definitely make an appointment and go meet with one. I seriously believe that I would've gotten a job much sooner if I wasn't such a jerk about it.
  5. Hello everyone, I just want to thank you all for your support. And I have good news!! Soon after posting this I finally got called for an interview and got a job!!! YAY!!! I was so happy about finally getting a job that I went to take the parkway to get home and went in the wrong direction!! It wasn't till I was 40 miles north of my exit that I realized where I had put myself. Guys, seriously, don't give up. Reading that a week ago would've made me roll my eyes and say "Yeah right... Easy for you to say" But seriously, don't. If I gave up like I wanted to so badly, I never would've sent my resume and never would've gotten this job. And what did I do?? I literally e-mailed the nurse recruiter every week. Sometimes twice a week. For multiple hospitals. Just have faith guys, its a painful journey but the reward is so great.
  6. It's been 2 months since I got licensed in NJ and I still can't land a job :'( I've applied everywhere! Nursing homes, hospitals, surgi-centers. Ahhhh!!!!!! Everyone wants someone with experience but no one wants to allow me to gain any experience! And it's not like I have zero expirence. I worked in a hospital for a year as a pct and did two interships in another hospital. I also have great recommendations. It just seems like I don't know the right people. Everyone keeps telling me it's all about marketing and talking to people at the hospitals but all I get when I talk to people that I know at the hospitals they just say put me down as a reference. I can't be mad at them for that either. What do I expect?? For them to march my resume to their bff in HR??? It's just so disheartening because I really love nursing and I know this is what I was meant to do with my life and his crappy job market is preventing me from doing it. I'm so sad and disheartened and really needed to vent. I apologize for being a killjoy but if I said this to my husband one more time he might invest in permenant ear plugs.
  7. I don't think soo.... Try calling though. The person I talked to took down my name and told me to call in 3 days and she promised to have it for me. So you can try that... As long as you have all your info in and your fingerprinting they should be able to do the same for you.
  8. Wow!! Good for you guys having jobs already!! I'm still job hunting I was just going to say it took 3 weeks for me to finally get my license. When I called the BON, they said that they have a staffing shortage and computer issues and thats why it was taking them so long to get everything done this summer.
  9. Were you able to get your license number over the phone??? It will be 2.5 weeks for me on Monday, I plan on calling the BON then. Hopefully they will have a number for me.
  10. I have a BS in biology and a BSN. I worked at a hospital about an hr from me as a PCT on a med surg floor but I was really hoping to find something closer. And I also did two externships on a peds floor but sadly that hospital isn't hiring for peds anymore
  11. I also did two externships in Peds but the hospital I did the externship in sadly isn't hiring anymore
  12. I worked as a PCT in a hospital about 45mins to an hour away from me so I was hoping to work some place closer. (hence another hospital) But I worked for about one year as a PCT med surg
  13. Hi everyone!! I just passed the NCLEX and now I'm just waiting for my license number. Does anybody have any suggestions on making myself more marketable for the hospitals in NJ??? I live in Monmouth county so would prefer a hospital not too far from me. ANY ADVICE IS WELCOMED!!! Thanks so much!!!

  15. Hello!! I'm a nursing student and I'm currently in my pediatric clinical. I hate feeling like a bother to the nurses and hounding them for information or things to do. Is there any advice from any of you wonderful nurses on what I can do to be more resourceful and less of a bother during clinicals? Thanks!!
  16. bernbabybern, I have a 3.1 GPA. Originally, I wanted to go to Vet school and thats why I took Bio as my major but you need at least a 3.5 to get into Vet School and unfortunately I did not make that cut. So, now I'm doing Nursing. Which was always my back up plan anyway.
  17. I still needed to take A&P I and II, and Stats. Also, I did graduate until last week and they wanted my dipolma earlier I think.
  18. Hello! The applications for fall 2009 arent due until Aug 15th. SOOOOO.... You probably wont hear anything until late July early August. I applied for the Summer but they pushed my Application back because I was taking too many pre-reqs during the Spring Semester (which I just finished). So hopefully I will be seeing both of you in September!
  19. Good. I'm really happy things are working out for you. Keep up the good work!
  20. Hello! A couple of things... Mom only having 1 baby seems fishy. X-Rays should be done to be sure that is in fact the only kitten. As for trying to get the mom to want to nurse the baby that is pretty much impossible. If she wants nothing to do with the baby then thats about it. Maybe you can try again with getting one of the other mom's that recently had babies to nurse the kitten. If all else fails, bring the kitten to a local vet and give it up to the technicians. We get about 20 kittens every spring and they all find homes and are cared for. Don't feel guilty about giving the kitten up. We work at a place where we can bring our animals, we understand how hard it could be if we couldn't do that and had to give constant care. If you do decide to keep the kitten there are a lot of things you should know. First of all the kitten should be on a heating pad. Sometimes at work when there is no heating pads left we pop and IV bag into the microwave for about 2-3 minutes and wrap it in a towel and use that. Also, the kitten at this age can not deficate or urinate by itself. It needs to be stimulated. So, what I do is get some gauze wet it with some water and gently wipe the around the orifice and lady parts/member. This will make the kittens think, "hey I have to pee!" and then they release whatever they have. Also, the kitten needs milk. Unfortunately, sythetic mothers milk is not every close to being half as good as mother's milk as I'm sure you know. This cuts the likelyhood of your kittens survival by half. So if the kitten does pass away within the next couple of weeks it is probably not your fault. You can buy kitten milk at Petsmart, its called KMR. Ask the sales associates for it and they'll show you where it is. I've been a Vet Tech for 7 years so this stuff is second nature for me. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I'm more than willing to help you out.

Hello! I am going to be getting my BSN in Nursing (hopefully) and I would really like to work in neurology. I have a great interest in this field and have many family members that have had strokes and other neurological issues. But, just to be sure this is truly what I want to do.... can someone please tell me the duties of a nurse in neurology? and possibly the salary? and any other information that you think I should have... Thanks!!
