I use both Alexanders and the Pocket Guide. The guide I bring with me to work, when I want to look up something quick. The other book when I want specifics.

So far it's been both very exciting and tiring.

Like I said, I'm not sure how accurate that is. It was at the top of my google search query and was used as a jumping point for the OP. I don't know about NYU and St. Francis, I'm sure they are. St. Peter's is. St. Mary's in Troy is in the process of applying for magnet status.

I owe a part of it to the nurse recruiter. She got a good read on me the first time we met and directed me towards a position that best fit.

I was in an ABSN program so clinical time was crunched. I had about a handful of observation days in the OR, Endo, Same Day, and PACU. No internship, but I've volunteered on a few surgical missions (missed out on the last two trips). An aunt and family friends are OR nurses, so I suppose they've been grooming me for years :lol: During the tour they mentioned the types of cases they do so those have been the ones I've been reading up on. What about hospitals with magnet status, or ones that are trying to get it? Your BSN might give you a slight advantage (okay maybe not, but it's worth a shotl... right?). I've been reading a surgical procedures book so I have a bit of a head start on what to expect. They told me to not to get ahead of myself, but I have too much down time at the moment!

Just received some very very very good news right now! Pay at St. Mary's for new grads is a little over 22/hr.

The problem with who you know and who knows you is that there are a lot of us out there at the moment. Right now when someone tells me they "know someone" I smile, nod, and move on to another subject. For the OP, I'm with the other responses of not moving here unless you have something lined up. Not a "maybe it will happen" but a sure thing. Not only are you up against new grads from the spring, but the new grads from the winter... on top of the experienced nurses from hospitals that recently closed. Would you be willing to work outside of NYC? Perhaps New Jersey (depending on where, transportation would be doable - bus, train, boat, etc)? If that's the case, look into NJ reciprocity. The last job fair I went to, one of the recruiters told a classmate and I flat out that our best bet was to look anywhere but NYC. The market is super saturated.

I graduated from the Albany area, but not for nursing school. According to the email they're aren't hiring for the graduate nurse position. It could be a budget issue, it could be something else. St. Peter's does have Magnet status, and St. Mary's is applying for it right now. I don't know of any other hospitals in the area that have it.

It isn't a rumor - St. Peter's, St. Mary's (Seton Health), and Northeast Health (Samaritan Hospital and Albany Memorial) agreed to the merger last year. From what I've heard (this coming from one of the hospitals) it's in the FTC's hands, and once they give the green light the merger can move forward. But that's not for another few years. The rumors out there at the moment are pretty much which hospital will do what. I'm curious what they'll be doing with the ob-gyn issue. And for those interested in the graduate nurse positions at St. Peter's, I received an email from the RN recruiter stating they are not filling the position at this time.

Not a military spouse here, but I'm pretty sure at the military hospitals you get preference? Or something along those lines. VA experiences vary from hospital to hospital, but the upside to working for one is that you don't need to register for licenses in other states (as long as you stay within the system).

Looks like St. Mary's in Troy is hiring. I submitted an application online on the 12th and got a call today for an interview. So far, the only hospital that's called me back out of all the applications I've done online.

Got my first interview scheduled. Such a relief... but now I have to learn all about these performance based interviews

Are they now? Because I've applied there and I haven't heard a thing. The same thing is holding true with some other hospitals in that area, which is really disappointing. The only hospital that is showing interest is the VA- I've finished my application and now I wait

I heard about it from word of mouth. If they were advertising it, I don't know if it was specifically for "experienced nurses" like I've seen in some ads. I guess it wasn't clear since there were quite a few new grads there with me. I mentioned in that post that it was BI, but I need to correct myself. It was Continuum Health Partners that held the session.

I had a really bad experience at Beth Israel. They had an open house/recruitment session and the HR person made it really obvious we were wasting their time. HR person took all the new grads at once and took us to their office where HR person wasted our time talking about how they have no fax machine, they have a file cabinet full of resumes that won't get looked at, etc etc... and and btw, not hiring new grads for the forseeable future. Why waste my time? Apparently HR person thought I was looking discouraged because they then said "don't be frustrated... you'll find something." Sorry, but I was thinking about the twenty bucks I paid for parking, the 8 bucks for toll, and how much I paid for gas to hear this person talk about how they wished they were back on vacation.

How long do they take to get back to you? I applied for a few positions a few weeks ago and haven't heard squat. Looking at Ellis, St. Peter's, and AMH now.

Just heard from a friend that makes me doubt the trick. She used it and she didn't get the pop up. Well guess what... she passed. And now I'm worried about tomorrow.
