Scope of practice for Pharmacy Techs
I am a certified pharmacy tech in WI. I just graduated from nursing school and understand that we all make mistakes. HOWEVER, your concerns should be taken seriously by the pharmacist as well as the hospital. There should be no situation that the tech should be left alone in the pharmacy....does the pharmacist realize that if anything should happen, he can be held responsible simply due to the fact that he is pharmacist on duty? Also, no medications should be leaving without verification by the pharmacist? This concerns me due to the fact that there are mistakes made everyday concerning medications. They should always be checked and then double checked to make sure that everything is correct. Working in a pharmacy during nursing school was one of the best choices that I ever made. But I couldn't imagine being put in that position like the tech you are talking about. I would voice your concerns.....speaking out is gonna save someone's life.

Reality Check Needed for BSN Student
Sorry that this had to happen to you.....I too got sick during school. I was leaking CSF out of my left ear and had emergency surgery. However it was during the 2nd semester of my senior year. I also went to a private university that was close to 15,00 per semester. Thankfully, as soon as I got sick, I was able to take incompletes for my classes. I wonder what would of happened if you had an instructor who would of helped you through this difficult time? While no one can prepare for an illness, it astonishes me that the nursing department in your school was not willing to help you. That is the profession that they are in. As far as the failing grade, keep your head up. Maybe retaking the class would be best. No one said that nursing school would be easy. Just that it is worth it. So you reached your first mountain.......pick yourself up and climb over it and begin again. If this is your dream, no one can keep you from it. Maybe this isn't the type of caring environment that you need to get your education in. If they are going to make you wait....are there any other schooling options for you? Keep your head up and keep us posted!!! We all support you and your decisions!!

is NCLEX RN 4000 free online just like the 3500?
There is a review book by Linda LaCharity called Prioritization, Delegation & Assignment that is really good....I found it helpful especially on prioritizing and such....good luck!!

NCLEX review books/CD???
I am currently using Saunders 4th Edition and am really liking it.....having gone through the traditional review classes previously, I feel more prepared this time around and confident too...I would strongly suggest getting this book and using it along with the CD that comes with it......wishing you the best!!

is NCLEX RN 4000 free online just like the 3500?
Very odd indeed....Especially since you can tailor the questions to what your weakness areas of nursing are......I enjoy using the NCLEX-RN 3500.....I do a batch of questions before I leave for work in the am....but when I study after work I am using the Saunders 4th Edition as well as a book on Prioritizing..... I think that it has helped me feel more prepared this time......any questions with the rationale are useful....and its FREE!!!! Not much is these days.....

Private Colleges???
If you have so many concerns about this, I think you should contact the school itself and they should be able to explain this to you.....they know who they are accredidated through and what will transfer or not....I agree that you need to check that website and see what your state says about it.....on a different note...3 years waiting list at a community college??? I would just go for the BSN and be done in less time than waiting to get into their program......

Holsitic Nursing Question
I graduated from Viterbo University in Wisconsin which is a private catholic college.....they teach about holistic nursing right from the start and continue it through each rotation.....it amazes me that more schools do not include this in their teachings......guess I am one of the lucky few that had that integrated into my education......

How old were you when you began nursing school?
Started LPN at 18....dropped out to get married.....had a baby....got divorced....went back for BSN at 27....graduated at 32...took me five years cause I had to go part time for a bit..single mom....by the way...my study buddy was 49 when he graduated....

Need a Nursing Diagnosis for GERD
I was always taught that using medical diagnosis' was not allowed in care plans.....so stating GERD as a manifested by would be incorrect.......I agree with the above post that the problem is pt's behavior after eating and not following instructions....not the vomiting itself....I am leaning towards the cognitive issues more than risk for impaired nutrition........GL!

NCLEX preparation
I have used Saunders book and took the Kaplan course...by far, I gained more from Saunders than Kaplan just because Saunders fit into my studying style better than Kaplan....classes and books....good luck to you!!

Keeping up skills during the new grad job hunt... thoughts?
Do you have a local chapter of Red Cross?? They can always use volunteers for blood drives and such....also, any type of volunteer work with elderly or disabled could at least keep you up to date on ADL's and such....good luck!!
