  1. Daaaaang, I am a Nursing Supervisor... please tell me she was joking...
  2. I am struggling myself after having moved from California back to the south where there are no staffing ratios. It is important to me to be an awesome nurse. I've been doing this for over 16 years and thus far I have never uttered the words "I'm too busy" to a patient. I feel like the current staffing with this level of acuity truly sets people up to fail. The experiences I have had with family members in the hospital and what I see as a staff nurse myself scares me to death!
  3. Morbid humor is a coping mechanism that is very common in those on the front lines and see a lot of death. I have worked acute care and I have worked hospice. I feel blessed to be able to provide comfort and symptom management to the dying and is a rush to save those who still have a chance at life. The old are easy for me, the young are hard and I am certainly not above a little dose of morbid humor on occasion
  4. I live in California and my parents are in Arkansas. My father had an MI and was in ICU, he was doing ok, fairly stable, and I was able to talk to him but I remained very emotional and worried since I wasn't in a position to go home. That night at work I took care of a man that reminded me sooooo much of him. He had a lot of the same characteristics, witty sense of humor, AND health issues. I was frank and told him so and told him I would take great care of him and hope that someone was doing the same for my dad. It was a great night despite everything. :0)
  5. In surgical report on pt who had to have whole apple removed from rectum..."Instructed pt in proper intake of fiber."I kid you not. Hee Hee!
  6. To the Hospice Nurse in SA.... Where do you work and do you like it, if you don't mind me asking. I loved the time I worked in Hospice back in Arkansas. I would love to get closer to home (Northwest Arkansas) but I can not afford to take the pay cut. I'm currently working Med Surg in California making $43 an hour. I was making $27 an hour as a house supervisor when I left Arkansas four years ago.
  7. I am hoping someone can give me advice. I started working for a travel company in February of 2008. After I completed my first 3 month assignment I was asked to renew. I tried to negotiate a higher pay rate with the company but the recruiter stated that she could not increase it. She did, however, say that if I would take a 6 month contract I could get two laptop computers. I got one at the beginning of the contract and I was supposed to receive one when I completed the contract. I informed the company a few weeks before my contract was up that I was going to take a full time position. The company allows you to do this after the completion of two contracts in one location. I could tell my recruiter was not happy about this. I have been unable to get them to send me the computer even though I completed my contract and can hardly get anyone to respond to me at all. HELP!
