  1. I recently just went through a miscarriage and found out the baby passed 2 weeks before my body aborted it. I ended up choosing not to do a D&C (mostly because the baby was already out before I could take the info home and think about it overnight and talk it over with my husband). It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I ended up with some other Dr. that lacked in empathy and didn't know her head from her...... I hardly had any cramping and there was hardly any blood (at least not the labor cramps and "large amount" that I was told). Has anyone decided to not do the D&C and have the miscarriage on their own? If so, how long do the cramps and bleeding typically last?
  2. I received an epidural during my labor and was never restricted on fluids. It was very dry in there and I felt like no matter how much I drank, it was never enough. Something mad me so thirsty I was sucking down water like there was no tomorrow. Never once did they restrict my water. I think had I had juice or something else, there would have been issues.
  3. I've been really trying and have had only 1 interview lately. I really would like to get into the clinic or hospital but never hear anything after interviews? Anyone have any connections to get me in. I'm already over my "allowed number of applications" which is rediculous and want a change of job. I'm not sure if I like pain management.
  4. Wait a second. It shouldn't be how many staff are on that is the issue. It is what are the cares like. If there are 42 residents and they are all pretty much independent with only needing the assist of throwing their legs back in bed, yeah, they shouldn't be complaining. However, if all or most of these residents are completely dependent with PAL and Lift transfers, then I wouldn't be blaming them. Management never seems to get this. Everyone seems to think these residents sleep all night, which isn't the case. These people are woken every 2 hours, are up most of the night and then end up sleeping all day. What are your cares like and are the staffing appropriate for those cares?
  5. get Kaplan's NCLEX book. helped when I failed it. I learned it was because of my nervousness that I failed. The book helped me quite a bit and i was much calmer the second time
  6. I'd be very careful with this. If you speak up about it, it may backfire on you. Nursing instructors tend to stick very tightly together and going over their head or calling them on something could only upset them more. They will flag you and ride you even harder. My advice, keep your mouth shut, do ask they ask (with a smile), and do things even better than they will want. After you graduate, then go back to the dean. I was in the program with someone who tried it and she suddenly got flagged for this and that and was kicked out.
  7. I'm not asking for medical advice. I'm asking if anyone has ever had it and if so, what they found out about it..... I work with enough doctors that if I wanted to have it looked at, I would.
  8. I'm not sure if anyone has come across anything like this...but I'm hoping... About a month or 2 ago, I think I twisted wrong picking up my 2 yr old son. Since then I've had lumbar back pain occasionally. Now within the last 2 days, I get this squirmy feeling of pain in my back, as to where I can't sit still and have to get up and move. It comes and goes but its almost this "I can't sit any longer feeling". I have gotten this feeling in the past, but it was more of a rare, once in a blue moon thing. I think I did something to my back picking up my son but my husband keeps telling me "well either you're pregnant or on acid". Has anyone experienced that kind of feeling before?

  10. I work for a pain management clinic and our RN's primarily work in pre/post-op. One of our RN's also floats to clinic and works phone triage and works with our insurances (pre-authorizations). I don't know what the RN's are paid but we have excellent benefits (paid med, dental, holidays). We get holidays off and don't work any weekends.

  12. Whoa. Slow down. It isn't as bad as you make it out to be. I went to school full time for the LPN program, raised an infant, and worked 32 hours a week. Instructors told me I had to quit my job or cut my hours back to weekends. I couldn't or I would lose either the house or a vehicle to repossession. We were told in nursing school about the calculation test and I flipped about it. Once I actually saw the test, I was like "and this is what I stressed over??". If I can make it through 2 semesters, burning the candle at both ends, working 32 hrs a week, going to school with 17 credits, and an infant at home. You can do this. Stop worrying and take one thing at a time....
  13. I had a LTC resident pull out his Mic-key gtube. I am an LPN and have never been trained to deal with them coming out. The charge nurse was an RN. If a resident pulls it out, do they get sent in to the hospital or can a nurse reinsert it? I brought it to the charge nurses attn and he made the call to reinsert it himself, only for 1 hr and 15 min later for the resident to the whole kitten caboodle out again. I was iffy on putting it back in since he was able to pull it out with a inflated balloon. What is protocol for this?
  14. ummm nope that would be discrimination. Now, its borderline discrimination to deny someone because of a tattoo or piercing.... Threaten them with a discrimination lawsuit....
  15. Yep, that is how a changeover usually goes. I have never seen a changeover go good (well except when I trained in-those are nights guaranteed to go smoothly). For some reason residents have this thing where they can sense things and then will only want things when you are at your busiest...
