  1. If you get an acceptance letter from somewhere else you can call them and they will give you an answer before that time. I ended up choosing Wesleyan last year but when I told them I needed an answer they delayed a little but I did receive one before the Feb. 28th date.
  2. Ya'll are crackin' me up! We have used the BIS monitors for quite some time and the company has come and had several educational programs for us. However, for most patients, the BIS monitor simply does not work, IMO. Some patients are extremely accurate while others are way off, therefore their reliability is worthless. The company says you must weigh the pain and agitation separately into the "number". Interesting and true as these are different factors. Just needs more accuracy. Just my 2 cents.
  3. TCRN, did u get my e-mail? I move on Saturday. Can't wait to meet all of you!!
  4. When I interviewed down at Baylor, one of their students had just had a baby and did not miss a beat. She had a great support system behind her and the faculty supported her 100%. So I know you can do it. Be the little engine that could!! Hee hee!! :rotfl: Best of Luck and CONGRATS!
  5. I too am in awe of ER nurses for putting up with the BS while waiting for the good thing to roll through. I work a Trauma Intensive Care Unit in a Level I hospital and we crack chests, open bellies, and all the juicy stuff more often than I can count. The difference between the ICUs and the ER in our facility is the understanding and manipulation of HD parameters (not to mention other things CRNA schools look for in skills). We simply have more experience with it, which I think is what CRNA schools look for. I do think ER is critical care and I fought for our ER nurses to be paid the same as the ICU nurses in our hospital, so don't think I am discrediting the critical care provided, it is just a different variety of skills. Anyway, just my thoughts.
  6. I am right with you. If you want, we can alternate apts! I am not sure where you are living but mine is on Bryant Irvin. Anyway, I have the whole drive situation too, so I bought a digital voice recorder to make CDs, and I plan on taking my treadmill with me. I bought the the notecards that go with our anatomy book (don't know if they will help) but I thought surely they would be easier to use on my treadmill than a book. Anyway, some of my other buds from Tyler are moving up there too for the program so we would be more than happy to be in a study group. Anyone else have words of advice?
  7. try ehealthinsurance.com the best coverage i found was through unicare at unicare.com my sister and her husband got coverage for a family with 2 children with prescription benefits and $2000 deductible pp for $267 a month. keep in mind most rates are based on the area in which you live. the first website lists multiple provider rates. good luck!
  8. The Sony Clie has a built in recorder I think. I have a palm. I love my laptop. It is a little big but easily portable. It is a Toshiba Satellite with a centrino processor. Mega fast with all the built in wireless features for wireless web surfing (one of the best laptops for wireless features). I even made may house wireless. Super cool. It is not as compact or light as a Sony Viao (spelling?) but packs up in a jiff.
  9. TWU: -Larger class size -slightly cheaper TCU: -smaller class size -more expensive That's really all it boils down to. But you can pm me if you want. I was accepted to both and chose TWU because it was a better fit for me. Good Luck!
  10. TWU Aug 16- Can't wait to meet you fellow posters!!
  11. 5 of the top ten fattest cities in the US were in Texas. Houston ranking number 1 I believe. So if being a CRNA does not work out for ya....there's a big need for personal trainers!!!! :rotfl:
  12. Texas is not all dry & brown though. East Texas is fairly "hilly" with lots of beautiful green trees and lush landscapes. Not to mention, it houses the rose capital of the world!
  13. I am one of those over-achievers that did anything and everything to make myself stand out from the crowd. I have a BSN, made good grades, retook classes that needed to be current, became an ACLS instructor and then an ACLS Director, TNCC Instructor, PALS certified, ENPC, ATCN, CCRN, etc, etc, etc...Anything I could do that made me stand out- I did it. I worked 4 years in Trauma ICU, not to mention a lot of teaching stuff. Granted, others get by with less, but I wanted to get accepted the first time I applied as soon as my hubby finished his schooling. So, it really depends on how bad you want it and picking the programs that are right for you and fulfilling their requirements!
  14. After visiting 40 of the 50 states, I am proud to call Texas home...Texas born and raised I can honestly say I have no rednecks in my family...YeeHaw thank goodness! The "Bubba's" (I use the term affectionately :) ) keep us trauma lovers in business! I LOVE TEXAS!
  15. oh goody...more electronic gadgets for me hehe...where did my wish list go??
  16. I have a Toshiba satellite and the keyboard is nice and quiet. Less noise than pages turning in a spiral lol. But really, I start my program in the fall, and even though I am a good typist, I don't think I will be able to type fast enough to take notes.
  17. Don't they have dorms just for grad students? Yikes!! Dorm life LOLOLOL!!!!
  18. Congrats! We will be classmates in the Fall. The online class won't be available for several weeks I hear. I am already taking an online refresher chem class because I did not know about the other, but oh well. See ya in the Fall!
  19. Definitely check the programs. Some programs just require you to have chemistry within 3-5 years of starting their program. That means you can audit the class or take a class without a lab. But check with the programs you are interested in first. I mean hey, who wants to take 8 hours of general chem with a lab over again??? yuck! But, we do what we must to succeed!
  20. I too will be your classmate Xigris. I am nervous with anticipation. The whole moving thing and leaving my home behind is quite sad. But alas, it must be done! Look forward to meeting ya'll in person!
  21. CONGRATS!! All of your efforts have paid off! Now we are going to be classmates!! Woohoo!!! The countdown begins!

I have 2 views on the FM subject: 1. I do believe that some people do suffer from true pain and that pain can be relieved in a variety of ways including conventional and holistic approaches. 2. I remember being 18 and a spine specialist telling me after a car accident I had FM and handing me a brochure and telling me "Good Luck, join a support group." Right then, I thought, screw that, this depression sucks, being overweight and a couch potato sucks, and this pain sucks. I do not have this frickin' FM lol. So I changed my life. Point being...in some ways I think FM and obesity are a lot alike in the mindset of this: You are not going to lose that excess baggage (ie pain or weight) until you really want to and you make up your mind to make lifestyle changes. Some people never get there, and therefore, may always suffer, mentally and physically. Life is what you make it.
