  1. On the anesthesia records at the facility where I was trained & where I worked for several years, the spaces reserved for signatures had ________________________ CRNA ________________________ MDA Obviously, our MDAs did not feel it is derogatory.
  2. Good for KY! Now 1/3 of all states have opted out! I hope Arkansas will opt out in the near future. I live in Arkansas, work in a community hospital and no MD or DO signs my anesthesia record or behind me when I write orders (r/t anesthesia). Several months ago, the hospital said that the surgeons no longer had to sign our records or our orders because the state nursing laws allow CRNAs to use the hospitals DEA number. Does anyone know anything about this? Do other states allow this?
  3. the nurse, who sends them to the lab for analysis
  4. There are 6 anesthesia providers where I work (5 CRNAs & 1 MD). We perform 90% of the LPs at our facility. There are a cpl of Drs who do them, but most will not even attempt. I work without MDA supervision. The MDA is my boss, but he does his own cases and is in the call rotation just like the CRNAs so pretty much everything we do, we do without MDA supervision. The others things that I occasionally do along these lines is IJ CVLs in the ICU (usually the surgeons do these since they prefer SC CVLs), Art lines in the ICU, & "difficult" intubations in the ER or in OB.
  5. I am a CRNA and previously received the Anesthesia Safety Foundation Newsletter in the mail. I didn't subscribe to this, but I know that the AANA is listed as one of their major donors so thought my membership might have something to do with receiving the newsletter. I haven't received the newsletter in the mail in a while now and was wondering if other CRNAs get the ASFN in the mail? I realize that it's available online, but prefer to get the print edition. My boss (MD) says he still gets it in the mail, so maybe they're only sending it to MDs now.
  6. You might want to think about attending the ASU nursing. I graduated in 03 & was accepted into a very competitive CRNA program the following year & am now a CRNA so it's obviously a good program.
  7. ASU or stAte has a really good nuring program...it's the largest in Arkansas. I graduated in 03 & am now a CRNA.
  8. Well, I actually received by results on the 23rd. I saw that my results had made it to my town, but FedEx wasn't going to deliver them because I didn't pay the extra money for Sat. delivery so I went to the FedEx station & they gave them to me...I PASSED!!! It was a great early Christmas present. On another cool note, the day that I officially became certified (22nd) is also my birthday...what a Bday present!
  9. I'm tracking mine on the fedex website & i'm not getting mine until the 26th:sniff: . I was really wanting to know the results before christmas.
  10. I 100% agree about the valley class...can definately be missed w/out consequence. As far as the books, I think the MM is better than the sweat book, but both are pretty helpful. I studied through both of them only once...i didn't just blaze through them though; took my time. You could know all of the info in both books & from my experience, there will be a lot of stuff on the test that's not covered in the two. Hopefully you get enough questions that are covered in the books so you can miss the 1s that aren't & still be okay.
  11. I just spoke w/a friend of mine who received her results on Dec. 27th last yr so I don't think the CCNA is closed until NewYears.
  12. Please do not misunderstand, I'm really not that upset about the current system. I just htink that it could be much better. They state numerous times not to call and even change of address information must be faxed rather than by phone or on the internet. I couldn't even call to confirm that they recieved my information. Anyway, I'm sure that I'll find out soon enough. Peace in the Middle!
  13. Let me just preface this post by saying that this is JMHO & most posters will probably disagree. Just some advice... I just took boards yesterday. I attended Valley & had the sweat book & memory master. If I had it to do all over, I would not have attended Valley. Just find someone/somewhere to buy the 2 books. I don't think the acutal course helped much at all. You'll need the books cuz unlike the couse, they are helpful.
  14. I was 22 when i graduated w/my BSN. I just graduated w/masters in nurse anesthesia and am 25, but will be 26 in about a wk.
