New grad starting in substance abuse rehab center need help please
Hey all, I am a new grad RN that just recently got hired for a substance abuse rehab center that deals with addiction recovery. I'm a little nervous and was wondering if anyone here can give any advice on how to deal with this type of nursing and what are my main duties, I also hear that these type of patients are very manipulative and aggressive, which makes me uneasy thinking about it because I'm a really nice, easy going person and I don't deal with people like that on a regular basis. I would also like to know the pro's and con's of this field. Thank you in advance.

California new grad RN planning to work in Australia
Ah I see, I have another question regarding continuing education, because California requires it in order to keep our license active, like we have to read information and goto classes for a number of hours that we have to meet. Does Australia have a similar thing? so that way my license can still be active in both countries.

Thanks for the info, I plan to work in the Sydney area. Is nursing experience in Australia valued in California hospitals? Will it work well in my resume?

California new grad RN planning to work in Australia
Hello all, I plan to move to Australia and work for maybe 1-2 years, the reason is because as a new grad I can not find any jobs here in California (they want experienced nurses) unfortunately it is very competitive for new grads at the moment. I've heard Australia hires a lot of new nurses because of your shortage, so I hope to gather a lot of experience from Australia, so that when I come back to California my chances of getting hired are much greater. In the meantime, I have come up with some questions which I hope some of you can answer: 1. What is the process I have to go through in order to be registered to work there and how long will it take? 2. What is the starting rate for New grad RN's? 3. Are there any hospitals in Australia that are affiliated with hospitals in California? 4. Is this a wise decision regarding my career path? 5. How good/bad are the chances of getting hired as a New Grad RN? 6. What is your advice and tips? This will be a huge change for me, but I am very excited and willing to make it work, housing will not be an issue because I have a lot of family down there. Thank you in Advance

Job comparison: California vs. Australia, need help!
Hello I've been a jobless California new grad RN since I got my license in September 2009, I have been applying and looking for jobs for the past 5 months and I've been rejected by most of the hospitals out here..unfortunately most hospitals at the moment value new grads with prior hospital experience (which I have none). Anyways I've decided to change my game plan for the new year and maybe find an RN career in Australia, I have many family there and they are encouraging me to work as a nurse over there for 1-2 years then come back to California and reapply for a better chance to land a job (because of the experience). They have said Aus is in desperate need of RN's more so than California and most of America. I have given this a lot of thought and I am really thinking about working overseas for experience to better my chances back here in California. So I was wondering if anyone here lives in california and has happened to work in australia and then came back? and are there any hospitals in Australia that have sister hospitals in california of the same company? Most importantly is this even a good idea? thanks in advance

One of those days..
I know how you feel because I was like that as well. I think it would help if you just go with your gut instinct, its usually correct most of the time, but sometimes it feels like your not 100% sure and so you second guess yourself and pick a completely different and perhaps wrong answer...try to avoid that. Anyways goodluck, this is all part of the process...you'll make it.

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
Hey Val just out of curiousity and interest, so your friends have told you that they went all the way to the credit card payment option on Pearson Vue, then paid $200 and later received a letter with their license and passed? Now this is making me nervous, it makes me feel like i'll be the first one with the "pop up" that actually failed...the "trick" might not be true at all! lol

Welcome to NCLEX August 2009 Group!!!
Taking the NCLEX-RN for the 3rd time, on Aug.31 (MY BIRTHDAY!:smiley_aa) at the Pasadena center. I've tried the Hurst review course and Kaplan test taking strategies for the past 2 attempts, this time I am trying Saunders 4th edition review and questions (I just finished the content review last week and now starting the CD portion with 100q's per day before my test date). I have this positive feeling that everything has come into place for me to pass the 3rd time (everything does happen for a reason and a purpose). Hopefully on the day I take the nclex, it will be the best bday self-present ever :biggringi. Goodluck to all August test takers...remember there is hope, just believe and don't give up!

Took NCLEX-RN today, stopped at 265
Hi all, this was my second time taking the NCLEX and my first time stopping at 265. I had lots of SATAS probably 10+, 4 drag and drops, 5-6 calculations (i'm sure I got those wrong lol), ALOT OF infection control, and lots of "the nurse will follow up.." questions, I pretty much think I had every type of question style/format and topic the NCLEX had to offer lol. I even used up all 6 hours with 5 min remaining on my last question...it was very grueling and i'm also not sure if I got the last question right, so that kinda bugs me. Anyways, I honestly have to say that I did feel better than I did taking it the first time, but that's probably not saying much. Just out of curiousity and relief, has anyone had the same experience and result as me and have PASSED? I've also heard that if you stop at 265 and finish before 6 hours, the computer counts the only last question if you got it right or wrong & that will determine pass/failure or something about the computer counting the last 60 questions getting more right than wrong will determine pass/failure, can anyone clarify or confirm this? Thanks much in advance, Good luck to all future test takers and retaker's!
