Actually you can take the nclex every 45 days for up to 4 years... FAQ's for Students How many times can I take the NCLEX Exam? The exam can be taken every 45 days for a four year period of time. This is governed by Rule 217.2 which states in part: © An applicant for initial licensure by examination shall pass the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN within four years of completion of requirements for graduation. (d) An applicant who has not passed the NCLEX-PN or NCLEX-RN within four years from the date of completion of requirements for graduation must complete a board approved nursing education program in order to take or retake the examination. I don't know about you but this makes me feel so much better. I think people keep mixing up the nclex with the exit hesi. You only have 3 tries with the exit hesi.

Hello again! Sorry it took so long responding...our summer semester was a beast!!! Congratulations to those that are starting next week. I know it may seem so overwhelming and stressful but just relax, breathe and soak up everything you hear! The first semester was the easiest but the most stressful because of the practicums. You will have to perform different skills in front of an instructor and will be marked off as pass or fail. For us, we had three chances then you were out. Im not sure if they changed that. FYI, we didn't lose anybody in our class due to failing practicums. It probably took them three tries but they passed when it counted. :) Be very careful with Legal and Ethical. It's an online course so it's easy to become lackadaisical. If you are late on the assignments you risk getting dropped from the program. We lost only one classmate from this class but there were a few on the verge of failing so stay focused! Yes, you'll be wearing black scrubs for your clinicals. Its kinda bitter-sweet because black is slimming but it fades so quickly so make sure to purchase two pair at a time. Pharm will be a hybrid course starting the fall semester. If you're starting in the fall, you will take pharm during spring semester with MS1, if you starting in the spring, you will take pharm during the fall semester with MS2. Plz take heed to this bit of advice... Do NOT complain to your instructors about trivial matters!! There are some things that are not going to change like the schedule, the dates/times of exams, what hospital you are assigned to, etc... If you do, then your legitimate concerns will not be heard. Kim, IMO, it would be wise to keep every book you have ever owned that can help you get thru nursing school!!! Seriously though, I have used my A&P book plenty of times including books from the 1st semester of nursing school. Some people sold their books and then later finding out we need them for the following sem. lilag02 I have an itouch and BB but haven't really use them yet. Im sure I will in the near future but last semester at clinicals I just used the computer at the nurses station to look up everything. The hospital I attended didn't mind the use of smartphones and I didn't hear from my other classmates that it was a problem. There are so many good apps to purchase for ur itouch but imo if you purchase them for the 1st or 2nd semester it's kinda a waste of money. Most expensive ones expire after a year. If you were to wait till your third semester it will last till graduation...at least that's what I plan to do. Hope this helps. Congrats to all that made it... Actually, Cyfair uses the same grading scale as the other lone star colleges. It changed about a year or two ago when the college became part of the lone star system. Btw... anything lower than a 70% is considered failing, so there is no difference between a D or an F.

luckymama21, Thanks for all the info. Did you have to order your scrubs from the BS or were you able to puchase and walk out with them? I went ahead and purchased 4 patches from the bookstore. I was also informed that they don't have any scrub uniforms for the ADN program. What was sold up until last week was from last semester's order. She told me that they won't order anymore until someone from the Nursing department puts in the order. I don't know how true that is so I plan to call sometime today to see if I'll get the same answer.

For those that still need to purchase textbooks, I was able to buy mine on half.com at a very reasonable price. They are all brand new books and are in great shape and it only cost me $280.00 for all ten (which includes the recommended handbook). Actually there are some cheaper than I paid but I just wanted mine brand new to guarantee the cd and access code. I purchased them on July 16th and today the last three arrived so I didn't have to wait long at all. HTH. Does anybody know how much the scrubs cost?

There is a nurses kit that is included in our tuition that Im sure will be given to us when school starts. Citigirl43 wrote "Nurses kits include pen light, scissors everything you need to practice skills...iv bags catheters, bandages vials to practice drawing medication, gown gloves ect... I just called back the bookstore to confirm the color of scrub bottoms we will be wearing and it appears that they don't have a clue. Im hoping this means the lady earlier was wrong and that they are sticking with blue pants because orange... well, that's just not funny!! Besides, it doesn't make sense for them to change it so I think it's safe to say they're blue.

I just walked in and filled out a couple of papers and was seen less than two hours later (no appt.). I received the mmr, dtap, varicella, and ppd shot. They're pretty familiar with LoneStar nursing program so she knew what I needed. Apparently this is where most of the nursing students come to get their shots. I wish I knew about this before I paid $130 for my Hep B shots. BTW... don't forget to bring all your paperwork (including your shot records) so they can fill it out. DjNyla, I called the bookstore after receiving the email and was told the scrub tops are orange with blue trim and the pants are ORANGE! I've seen cyfair nurses wear blue pants but I guess they've changed it.

so, i was able to get all of my shots for the low, low price of.... $5.00!!! the only shot i really paid for was the ppd shot which is $5.00. yes, i went to the hcphes antoine health clinic and yes, i had to wait about two hours (2:30pm -4:30pm) to be seen but it was free. just thought i would pass this info along and maybe help you save a few $$$$. hope this helps! http://www.hcphes.org/dccp/lochrs.htm#antoine

Some might think this is off topic (actually all of you might) but bare with me, it's late. I knew this girl, a beautiful girl, but when it came to romance she was clueless. She would tell me how much she wanted to be married but would always chase men away. We would have long talks about what she should do and what behaviors to avoid. Most of the time she agreed but sometimes she didn't. She actually tried to convince me (or herself) that it's ok to show up at a guy's house unannounced or blowing up his phone or checking his voicemails. I tried to explain to her that her stalker behavior is very unattractive. She wouldn't listen. Even when the guys would tell her she still believed that they were "just trippin" and it's just a sign of love. This type of behavior is called denial. The reason why I bring all this up is because some people need to be reminded that although you know better than to eat six snickers while lying in the hospital, you might be chasing a guy that wants nothing to do with you but it's too difficult for you to let go because you insist on only believing you two were meant to be (see, denial). See, this type of behavior is not isolated to just medicaid recipients. Most people have had to deal with this (being stuck in denial, that is) at some point in their lives. So...The moral of the story is... DON'T JUDGE! We all have a lot more in common than you think... That's my:twocents:. Im going to bed now... Good Night AN!!

Hi BeBe, IMO I would suggest you take Psych again to raise your GPA. If you are trying to get into Cy-fair you pretty much have to have an 11.4 minimum to be considered. Good luck!

This is what I remember about the Hesi test. First, the math part was pretty easy. It consisted of a lot of fractions and other 8th grade math. The best website to go to is www.aaamath.com. This helped me remember many of the formulas. Also what helps is learning how to check your answers. As far as the reading goes... I found a Hesi practice book at Barnes & Noble that explained everything I needed to know to answer the reading questions. So, for instance, after reading a passage you might have to know what it infers or what's the main topic, the book will show you what to look for. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of it but I do know it was the only Hesi book they had. Remember, Cy-fair only uses your reading score to calculate your points so I would say pay extra attention to the Reading part. Hope this Helps!

thanks djNyla I would love this schedule cuz I would be able to put the boys on the bus and head off to school instead of having to put them in before and after school programs... save some money! At least for the first semester. I keep reading this program is a four semester program but every curriculum I see there are at least five, so Im also curious to know if we will have the summer off. And if so, how does that work?

Yeah, I enjoyed the CPR class as well. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Time went by pretty fast and met some nice people... I have a question. Does anybody know what Cyfair's first semester schedule looks like? The curriculum shows the classes but I would like to know what classes are taken online and what times are the others scheduled. TIA.

Actually, I wasn't able to sign up for the FRI class because I have no babysitter for my 4 yr old. I will try to get into the Sat class though, maybe this weekend. Please let me know how the Fri class went so I can know what to look forward to on Sat. Thanks!!

I'm not in nursing school just yet although I was just accepted this past weekend, I do believe I couldn't have made it this far without Him guiding me. Aaaaand... I guess now I can focus on my CPR class and making sure all my shots are up to date.

Im glad you started this thread. I just received my acceptance letter to Cyfair and I am so excited. I also need to take the CPR class and will look into this Fri with you. It would be nice to meet some of the future nurses before class starts. Is anybody else a little nervous about Cyfair? I've read some horror stories on this website about how difficult the instructors make it and the high dropout rate. All in all, I am looking forward to what my future has to hold.
