Two ICU Vent Patients placed on a med/surg floor with no charge nurse....
I don't have any advice for you as I'm not a nurse YET, but I just wanted to tell you I am so sorry you are stuck in such a bad situation! I hope it gets better for you and some wise words of wisdom come soon!

Things you would love to say to your fellow nursing students!
Stop using the excuse that you are a bad test taker when you get low grades on your tests, you have no common sense or compassion either. Those two together mean you have nothing going for you in this field. "No the finger condom is not used to get a urine sample from an infant" How come your the only one who is allowed to talk in the class? Oh, ok, so now you want to study and the whole cklass should be quiet just for you. Where have you been the past year??? We learned that 4 quarters ago!!! Just because you got a good grade on a test doesn't mean you can dance around the classroom Why am I getting the same grade as you and you do nothing. STOP CHEATING! I can't believe they actually let someone like you in here!

ultrascopes in school
I have a Littman Master classic and a Classic II S.E. Both AWESOME!!! I actually have working in a scrub supply store for the past three years while in nursing school. We have two ultrascopes in our store, both have been there for the whole three years..eeek! I was told by the owner that he was paid to carry them but not to push them because they aren't as good as the Littmans. I've tried one and have a hard time hearing out of it, but if you are comfortable with yours the more power to ya! And you can always buy a cheap dual head for under 15 bucks just to use while in school, we were actually told to do that because stethescopes loooove to walk off! But I couldn't resist (or hear) so I splurged on my Littmans!

I'm just, disgusted........whatever.
Good Luck!!!! I'm a huge believer in "Everything happens for a reason." Not doing well in the ICU interview just meant that there was something much better lined up for you! Sometimes we just have to wait a little to see that!

Lasik Surgery and Nursing
I'm so sorry to hear that *Hugs* My husband was looking into lasik and is most likely not a candidate either because he has a very high RX too. He keeps putting off the consultation because he keeps having the feeling they will tell him the same thing. I myself have never had to wear glasses but my husband's glasses attracted me to him, I think they are sexy Cheer up :flowersfo I bet your glasses are sexy too!

Has anyone seen the movie Miss Evers' Boys?
Yes I have seen it, it's a great movie (not under the circumstances of why it was made) but it was done very well. We had to watch it in Ethics class and do some projects on it. I remember the spinal tap seen but I don't remember it bothering me ??? There is another part that bothered me WAYYYY more but I don't want to say anything since you haven't seen it, report back Friday after you watch the movie and I'll tell you

Dead Babies...To Get It Off My Chest
You definately hit the nail on the head. I am a student nurse about to graduate. Before I even started nursing school I was sure I would be destined for pediatrics. Because the babies and kids are soooo cute! That is until I did a clinical rotation on a peds floor for several weeks. I was a wreck. My first pt. was a previously SBS baby and it was heartbreaking to see the child in a vegetative like state. The next day I was not able to tend to the same pt. because it had become a state case overnight after they found benzos and amphetamines in his system!!! Although the child was 3 there was no way he ingested those himself, he couldn't walk, talk or barely move let alone be able to obtain the pills to swallow them. I was disgusted. I came home and cried. And that wasn't the only horrible case. I told my husband I must be the most naive person to ever live because before I entered nursing school I lived in this "happy" bubble where no "bad things" happend. I was shocked everytime I came to clinicals during that rotation. I still love nursing with a passion and that experience didn't turn me off from nursing, just from pediatrics. It takes an amazing person to deal with incidents like that on a daily basis. Some people are cut of for it and some are not but I don't think just because there are certain "situations" you can't deal with that you are not in the right area. I'm so sorry you had to go through this OP, everyone has some great words of wisdom and advice in this thread.

How long did it take you for LPN-RN through EC?
Yes, the whole meeting with the two guys who came to the "very small" conference from TCN - and when I say small, there were only 4 people there. It just made me uncomfortable and they just about wouldn't let me leave until I set up an appointment to make my first payment. I did set one up but ended up cancelling it later. Did you all go through TCN?

How long did it take you for LPN-RN through EC?
Thanks everyone for your replies, I am also very thankful for this forum. I went to a meeting with The College Network and they told me the only way to do the LPN-RN transition was through them and that it would be much more easier that way because they do EVERYTHING and I just sit back and wait for my materials. I am so glad I am doing a little more research and recieving loads of input from reading everyone's posts!

Strangest thing ever said to you by another professional.
On my Maternity clinical rotation I had a teen mom as my pt. When I entered her room in the morning she was standing over the bassinet with a worried look on her face. She said she thought something was wrong with the baby, of course I panicked and dropped everything and ran over there. The baby looked to be straining a little and I checked the diaper and he was going (of course it was meconium) and she freaked out that the "poo" was black and asked me to stop making her baby poop. I let out a loud laugh until I realized she was being serious - oops:icon_roll There seriously needs to be WAAAAAY more sex ed in school!

"LPNs should be done away with altogether"
I too am in LPN school. Looking to start a transition program soon after as well. From what I have heard also it that LPN's are pretty useless except in LTC facilities. It makes me nervous. At our local hospitals most LPN's just go around and do vitals and things care techs would normally do. It looks to me that I may have to work in nursing home to actually "feel" like a nurse until I get my RN. I'm curious to see what everyone else says to this thread also! Great topic, thanks for starting it! I'm sure it's different from state to state or whatever area you are in i.e. city, rural.
