Continuing education for nurses
Hello, I am a new grad with questions about continuing education credits for nursing. First of all, I believe you need 20 CE per year as a registered nurse. Is that true? Also, I have heard there are some online classes and nursing articles I could get these from, but how do they check for them... Do I just get a certificate for each class and collect them? How are they followed up on? Are the hospitals that you work for suppose to help me achieve CE and check for them? so many Questions, I've received my license on August and have not had any CE yet. Thanks for your help

The VA Medical Center Pay
HI, Here is a site to check out. if you want to know about pay scale. its title 38, for nurses who want to work in the VA. I'm not sure how accurate it is now, but it should give you a range. Just find the position, the location and click on the table. It took me 2 hours to find this..... I don't even know how I found the time... DoD CPMS :: WAGE :: AF Title 38 Special FY 2010

New Grad RN-->No Jobs, Then what?
Hello All, I've recently graduated from nursing with my BSN. A majority of my fellow classmates DO NOT HAVE JOBS! The only ones that do were the ones that were working in hospitals as PCTs or CNAs during nursing school. ( ok... one of them got a job because her boyfriend's dad was the hospital's CEO) I graduated in May 2010. And like all other normal new grads, it took me about 6 months to get even a call back! But it did happen, I was pretty patient, but super broke now. I went on an interview at a hospital near my house. As I was walking into HR, there were 2 other people sitting in the waiting area, all professionally dressed, all applying for the same position, all NEW GRAD! It looked dim for me after that, One of the candidate had his MASTERS degree! not only is it competitive for BSN graduates, I'm starting to think that ADN (associates degree nurses) will no longer stand a chance in a few years. I spoke to the board of directors about how hospitals are trying to improve their care and her answers clarified it for me. They are trying to hire more BSN and up, and hiring less ADN. They feel that a more education equals improved patient care ( evidence based practice). So to sum it up, Yes, it is competitive, EVERYONE wants to be employed in healthcare now. YES, all the schools will have new grads graduating at the same time, making the market more competitive. NO, associates degree will no longer be good enough ( unless you have experience or reliable connections) Yes, if it is your passion to do nursing, you should go for it.

New Grad Interview Help
So I did it !!! It was pretty nerve wrecking because they scheduled a few other candidates for the same job, waiting in the same room as me.. :coollook:so I could see how competitive the job was. The interview went great, and they have a 3 month new grad orientation! . We spoke about salary, benefits, etc, (HR brought it up). The board answered all the questions I had about the job right when I walked in, so I just asked a few more questions about the hospital itself, since I didn't have anything else to add. Thank you for all your help:nurse:.

New Grad Interview Help
Hello All, I am a new grad RN, well, sort of. I'm currently in home health for about two months now. I've been selected for an interview at a float pool registry (full time)at a hospital 2 minutes away from my house (Yay! ). The problem is that I'm going to be bombarded with questions, since I have an interview with human resources, then the nurse manager and then also the entire panel of directors. 3 interviews in one day... I just need help on some questions to ask during the interview. I know they will ask me stuff like.... "so, do you have any questions for us?" .... And I would be like.... (!!!) Any advise would be great. I know I will ask questions related to basic orientation and training for new grads ......but other than that...... help please. thanks!

registry
Hello nurses and nursing students,:) I'm a new grad:grad: with a BSN. I'm currently employed in home health for two months and its been pretty good. I love my nurse manager and coworkers. The problem is, its not as busy as i hope for it to be. I only see a few patients a week. I currently have an interview next week for float pool registry position that is full time, without benefits. I've heard that registry pays a little more, but I'm a new grad and i don't really have much experience beside the home health. I wonder what the difference in pay might be between registry( for a new grad) and working regular hours. I feel so horrible for asking, but I am super broke right now and I need to consider my options. What are some of your thoughts on this? Please post. Thanks
