  1. I think it does depend on the location. Where I live there is definitely NOT a nurse shortage...there are so many applicants for one job you now see some of the ones you are up against & although nobody says it the male nurses usually always get the position. Don't get me wrong...I have nothing against male nurses, I have a great friend who is an LPN & will be graduating soon from the RN program. In Ohio, I have seen that the BIGGER cities have openings for RNs & LPNs. I am talking Cleveland, Cincinnati, Youngstown, Columbus, & Toledo. I am more centrally located & do not want to leave the area so I have limited myself.
  2. Even if the complaint is SUPPOSED to be kept confidential it is not always the case. I have seen it many times where the state comes in the administration end up finding out who filed the complaint.

  4. Here it in June now & that employer now says I was fired for misconduct. I contacted an attorney & he says nothing can be done because it was at-will employment. I have been fighting 8 weeks now for unemployment. The employer even denied me COBRA dental benefits. I have applied to over 120 jobs, had 4 interviews but no job offers. The HR from where I was fired has kept in contact with me & told me she gave me excellent references to all who called. I have applied to facilities, hospitals, home health, and any non-nursing I thought I could do but nothing. I have even been telling places that I am willing to relocate. I am running out of time....my rent was due June1st (unable to pay), car payment due next week, and all JFS will due is give me food stamps & medical because child support is $300/month. I put ads online to sell some household items but nothing. Does anyone have ANY SUGGESTIONS on what to do, I am getting really scared.
  5. That works unless your DON favors the aids. I was wrongly accused of "misconduct" because of an irate aid, was terminated & denied unemployment. Now here I sit looking for over a month & almost homeless because I can't find a position. I have applied for non-nursing positions too & up to 100 miles away. I live in Dover, Ohio & have been looking as far away as Mansfield, Ohio. Just makes me sick & I had no way to defend myself because Ohio is "at will" employment. Be careful & watch your backs.

  7. I can notclaim anything except I did NOT do what the employer accused me of doing but I had no way of proving myself. In Ohio it is like you are taking the money out of someone's wallet. I can not see how this employer could even think of firing me, I had reported this STNA before & everyone knew what she was capable of but I get fired, too !!!!???? I just need a job & until I find one just not sure how to care for my 13yo & myself.

I wrote before about "back stabbing STNA......I was fired for "fighting with employee & creating hostile environment for resident"....I never did this but the resident (dementia well documented in her chart) present said I did & family threatened to call ODH if nothing was done. This facility is the worst I have EVER worked in but it was a job. I did the best I could do by all of my residents and tried to give the best possible care everyday despite other LPNs not doing their job.Admin made meguilty and I had NOWAY to prove otherwise. Now I can not find a job (small town, nothing for miles) and I have been denied unemployment. I NEVER in 25 years have had ANY accusations against me and have always done the best I could for my residents no matter what the facility was like. I am just getting so depressed about this. I need some advise on what I need to do or where to go for help. I called an attorney but since this was "at will" employment in Ohio there is nothing to be done legally. What are unemployed people supposed to do in this great state of Ohio ???
  9. Watch your back, you may get fired like I did.....because thisaid was about the same & the DON did nothing after I reported things several times.... Good luck
  10. Never in 25 yrs have I seen this happen. I would get her out of there fast then file a complaint with the state dept of health & the ombudsman. I have seen quite a bit & it is aweful what facilities get away with. I agree, the facility needs to have some problems...that is neglect & abuse.
  11. Yea, I think MAYBE there is someone who they wanted to have my job??? Not sure but She is PRN & now already working more. I must put this behind me & look forward or I am gonna go crazy....lol. Thanks to all for the support
  12. Today was terminated & attorney said Ohio law only covers employees IF terminated for discrimation reasons. I never cursed or argued but reason for termination was arguing with another employee & creating a hostile environment for the resident.....total lies.... I just found out the other nurse I was working with has been told she either transfers to work my hall & the RN upstairs has to move downstairs "to handle things". This is an RN who is "one of them". She can not handle a blood spill....she took the broom used to sweep up blood spill kit mess & put it back on the unit. Thanks to everyone for their input/advise. I appreciate it all. Lesson learned, if you think the job is bad....it probably is.
  13. I am sorry, I did nothing wrong. One demented resident (well document in her chart) is the ONLY witness. Do you think that STNA would have stood for herself to be sent home & not me if I had cursed?? SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THAT.
  14. I do not have the authority to make anyone leave when the DON or ADON is in the building. I did tell the DON what the STNA said to the resident. Today I filed for unemployment although I am just suspended because I wanted my employer to know I am not waiting around forever for a decision. I do plan on filing a wrongful termination lawsuit. I see where this employer has had several suits againt them. This is my 1st place where you wasn't fired for what she did & certainly the 1st for the charge nurse to be suspended/fired. Many of my coworkers have said they do not believe I said any curse words but unfortunately the DON/ADON/ADM are not on my unit enough to know me as a person or a nurse.
  15. So I was wrong to do what I did & wrong for not walking away ????? I am in a situation where I have no possible way of defending myself
