  1. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
  2. The problem is that you have to deny the fact that you are an LPN at the hospitals here in upstate NY. I've applied at 4 of the major hospitals and the response I rec'd (not all exactly the same but you'll get the drift), We will not hire an LPN for a cna position. I am not sure if that is an 1199 union rule or the hospital's rules. Any ideas. I don't want to lie but I may have to come to that.
  3. I've recently signed up with excelsior to complete my RN. They have accepted a lot of my credits from my associates in accounting making it alot easier and shorter for me to get my RN. But... Am I going to experience the same job search frustration at the end??? Yvette
  4. So totally true. So here I am. I guess misery loves company (or at least a little "keep your head up") Thanks Yvette
  5. I am glad that you mentioned that. I owe a nurse manager a thank you. She gave me 15 mins of her time giving me pointers on my resume. I think she knew I was frustrated. She was one of the first ones to give me the "lack of experience" comment. But she stayed on the phone with me while I picked her brain, and she was very helpful. So, before I forget... Thank you. yvette
  6. A fellow student who is in dire straits for a a job applied for a CNA position at a large hospital in our area in order to get in. He said that he had to omit the fact that he had an LPN license or they wouldn't hire him. This is a horrible position for him to be in but I understand how desperate he is. Yvette
  7. If thats the case then I'm in a terrible position. I don't know anyone in the healthcare field. UGH!
  8. I live in the Hudson Valley Region of New York. There are a lot of places to work besides the hospitals. I've learned to get creative as far as where to apply. I've also made calls to find out who in particular would be receiving my resume. I even went so far as to find out who the nurse manager is and call her/him directly. I feel like a stalker! I still get the same response "...experience"
  9. Hi everyone, I realize that I am new to the nursing field and my clinical rotations do not count towards experience BUT... I am so frustrated with the same response "one year of experience required" Uh, helllllo. I've tried all types of healthcare related employers. I have excellent references and I am open to all positions and shifts. I have 15 years of non-healthcare related Managerial & Accounting experience and I have tailored my resume and cover letter to capitalize on the fact that those skills (accountability, attention to detail, organization, prioritization) can be applied to any industry. I have run out of ideas. Please is there something that I am missing? any suggestions? Yvette 2:twocents:
  10. :clphnds::clphnds:Way to go!:clphnds::clphnds:
  11. Thanks Lisa, It makes financial sense to go directly through EC. And as I stated earlier, I am comfortable with the online learning venue. I'm comfortable setting and sticking to a scedule. btw, lpnmaura, that would be an excellent way to monitor how well I am doing an what needs brushing up on. Thanks Yvette 2:twocents:
  12. i called ec directly and they went through it step by step (1.5 hours on the phone). i went online and downloaded the fee schedule too. turns out to be almost half of what the test prep svcs are charging, with alot more support. thanks for your input. yvette 2:twocents:
  13. lol, I'm w/ you MOMTOJOSH. I couldn't stop reading the (Luke & Laura drama) posts. Yvette 2:twocents:
  14. btw, Thank you... Yvette 2:twocents:
  15. That's what I was thinking. The 3 test prep co's made everything sound so good. Yvette 2:twocents:
  16. Hi All, I am interested in the Excelsior nursing program and I've received confirmation that at least 27 of my associate degree credits will transfer. I feel my head spinning... I just spent the last three days comparing the following three test prep services: RueEd iStudySmart The College Network Am I wrong in assuming that it would be better to enroll directly w/ Excelsior, instead of using a test prep service? (I've taken online courses in the past and am very comfortable in this venue). Thumbs up or Thumbs down What do you think? Yvette 2:twocents:
  17. Thanks for the heads up SilverDragon102 I found it.
  18. I am searching for an old thread I read (before I signed up). It listed all the different certifications that an LPN can get. If any one remembers (or if anyone can direct me), please respond. Also, is there a specific site on the Web that I can go to in order to get more info regarding additional certifications to make myself more marketable as a newly licensed LPN? Any help would be appreciated. I am coming up against the same response while looking for work "You need 1 year of experience". I am hoping that being additionally certified will help. Thanks all, Yvette 2:twocents:
  19. City or State?
  20. I woke up this morning to breakfast in bed, telephone calls to wish me "happy birthday nurse yvette" and I was surrounded by my family. Around 12:00PM my mail carrier knocked at our door (which never happens since our driveway is so far from the road). She wanted to hand deliver an 8 x 10 envelope that clearly stated "DO NOT BEND". I didn't think it would be my license since I just found out I passed on Wednesday the 25th of February. So I opened it up and lo and behold it was my nursing license and diploma. :clpty::clpty: What a birthday! :clpty::clpty:
  21. Take a REST DAY before your TEST DAY! and relax. Let us know... Yvette 2 Cents
  22. I concentrated totally on the Saunders and the CD that came with it. I also went online to all the free question banks I could find. Good Luck Yvette 2 Cents
  23. hey teareyed0001, 1st- let me tell you that i completely understood everything you said in your post. yes, i can tell that english is not your 1st language but... i have heard and read worse from native americans. 2nd- do you want to be a nurse? if you answered yes, then pick yourself up and dust yourself off and do what you need to in order to pass this test. start with the mental break. during that break make a plan. as silverdragon102 suggested go out and get the saunders review. pull out a calandar page and start writing down how many hours you will study a day (at least 3 hours daily for at least 45 days) and what topics you will study. make sure that when you come back from your break you bring back the book, the plan and your renewed confidence and determination. this site is great for motivation so keep posting. yvette 2 cents
  24. Just wanted to let everyone know that I passed the NCLEX. I posted it somewhere else but not here. I was euphoric at the time and not really thinking. Thanks to all of you and this site, I DID NOT LOSE MY MIND. Good luck to all of you yet to take it or waiting on results. YVETTE, LPN
  25. Good luck to you. I know that you probably heard this a thousand times but... TRY TO DISTRACT YOURSELF. And stay as positive as you can. Yvette 2 cents
