  1. I applied really close to the deadline and it was 2 or 3 weeks after that
  2. Yeah, it is by far the cheapest. I was not impressed with my first class. I dropped 2 classes in order to take one at a time but the 2 I dropped seemed well organized. From what I hear from my friends in other programs it is about the same quality as far as professors go. I'm not far enough along to really know more than that tho
  3. Most say you have to take it by 10pm. I would just stay on top of the sign up date for tests so you have an early pick.
  4. I have been enrolled in 3 classes and they have all used proctorU. There have been many time slots through out the day to take it, but only one day. You know from the beginning of the semester what day tests are scheduled, you just have to schedule your time slot. Hope this helps.
  5. Thank you! I have been on vacation but will take a look. :)
  6. Thank you for sharing and sorry to hear about the setback. How far along were you? I would like to hear from current students or those finished with the program what they thought about it. Basically if they feel prepared to enter the field. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
  7. At least they take care of your clinicals
  8. Congrats! I was accepted to Columbus State and UAB and a couple others. Going with CSU I think. Even though UAB's resonated with me, CSU is a lot cheaper.
  9. Thank you so much for this í ½í²• very helpful!
  10. Thanks so much for the tips! I'll check out that book
  11. Boo! Hiss! So sorry! Just curious if you're in a large city? I have Duke and UNC I'm competing with. Gotta start finding people though.... I'm cohort 6 so technically I start this Fall part-time but I'm doing summer classes. Pharm starts in a couple weeks-but I'm not even registered yet?! Anyone else doing pharm this semester? Getting nervous about that too.
  12. Good to know. I am part-time and haven't really started with the preceptor thing. Definitely need to though
  13. Can you tell me about what you know about starting in the summer? The schema for part-time has 3 classes (9 credits) for the 2nd year spring term). Yikes! I'd love to knock one of those out in the summer instead. Seriously considering another program (if I get in), just so I can take less credits per term. Thoughts? Also, where in NC?? I wish NC had schools that waived the GRE! I'm in Holly Springs, grew up in Hope Mills and lived in Durham a few years!

  15. Me too! But did you apply anywhere else? It's the least expensive program but I'd love some reviews on the quality. And I know I won't hear from anywhere else before the 15th of March...I've applied to UAB and USA and was considering Mizzou DNP but an MSN seems more attractive right now. Has anyone found reviews on CSU or know FNPs that have graduated from there? What do they have to say?
  16. Interesting! What do you think about palliative care for an NP specialty? I'm leaning in that direction. I'm sure you'll get in! Thanks for starting the thread :)
  17. Hello! So what happened with your career since writing this post? I'm in a similar position but 4 years post-working. I would really like to do an FNP program but not sure how competitive I am.
  18. I applied but not super confident about my situation since I've been staying home the past 4 years. I received my BSN in ‘10, 3.77 nursing gpa (it was my 2nd degree), 6 months LTAC, 1.5 years ICU, 1 yr critical care float pool including recovery/PACU. I'm also in NC :) I looked at ODU but was told they didn't have a part-time option.
  19. So I am applying to NP programs after managing home and family for 4 years. Prior to having my first baby I worked critical care for 3 years. The last year I worked in critical care float pool which included med/Surg ICU, CTICU, Cardiac ICU, and all levels of PACU. Are there any programs that will accept me even though I'm not currently working? I'm confident I have the chops. Other question-Should I be surprised my last manager won't write me a recommendation because she hasn't worked with me in 4 years? My BSN professors have no problem writing me one, but I was hoping my previous manager would. Last question-If I can't get into NP school I'm considering an MSN in education. After getting that, could I apply to fnp certificate programs? Naturally I would have some current clinical experience. Thanks for the insight!
  20. -I would think a nationally/internationally known hospital would be better, unless you are going to apply somewhere locally where a smaller hospital would look ok because it is well known. As far as which unit, I would say CTICU, CICU then MICU. I say this because I know a co-worker who started (as a new grad) in CIU and then started CRNA school a year later. Another coworker was in PACU 2 yrs, M/S ICU 3 years and got rejected. They were worried about her lack of experience, especially with PA catheters. After she worked in the CTICU for 6 months she applied again and got in.Both girls worked at the same small hospital and went to a competitive local program. Both very smart but the cardiac RN had an advantage.
  21. I did an accelerated program out of state and tried for about 6 months to get a job in the triangle area (part of that time I was still in nursing school). I graduated in May, took the NCLEX in June and finally/desperately accepted a job in Fayetteville in August at an LTAC (I used my parent's address while looking for work). During this time I got engaged and really felt the urgency to move to the triangle since my husband-to-be works in Durham. I applied to any Feb New Grad positions I could in the area and finally got a call back from REX for their ICU! I started a month ago and LOVE IT! My point is, DON'T GIVE UP with the job search thing. I applied to new grad positions up until I knew I would have six-months experience. Then I would have just applied to regular RN positions anywhere in the area. While I did feel a little guilty leaving my first employer after six months of work, I can say now it was totally worth it. Also, I had no idea that working just a few months as a new grad would open up an ICU opportunity since I had no prior critical care experience. I wish you the best
