1. acid is lost from the stomach (emesis) leading to metabolic alkalosis 2. bicarbonate is lost from diarrhea leading to metabolic acidosis 3. irritability (rather than lethargy) is an initial finding for cerebral hypoxia which would occur from the retained fluid in the brain that results in increased icp 4. signs of increased icp in infants include: bulging fontanel, irritability, high pitched cry, and continually cries when held; r more often slow, deep and irregular 5. the peak airflow volume decreases about 24 hours before clinical manifestations of exacerbation of asthma; it is the most important to monitor for asthma pts 6. the peak flow meter is used to measure peak expiratory flow volumes; provides useful info about the presence and/or severity of airway obstruction: green (good); yellow/red (caution and get help) 7. when a pregnant women is admitted with c/o painless lady partsl bleeding: do abdominal ultrasound because it's the least invasive diagnostic test 8. dexamethasone (decadron) increases the production of hcl, which often leads to gi ulcers; take it with food or milk 9. pancreatic enzymes are to be given to pt with cyctic fibrosis; with each meal and every snack to allow for digestion of all foods that are eated 10. if the peak flow reading is 50% less of the pt's baseline reading, give a short-acting beta-agonist immediately (rather than giving oxygen because the pt's airways need to be opened up first)

Nursing Resumes
you should include them! list the department and the hospital...and the skills/experience that you have such as working with ventilators, dressing change, etc! ONce you got a job as RN, then you won't have to include rotation anymore!

Scared about the NCLEX!!
thankyou! I think I should do that too before I go. My friend used the time to do the tutorial during the test...I think I should save those time for me test...

ATI
We needed to take the ATI and passed 75% before we can exit. But I didn't study ALOT and made it > 75%....I don't know how helpful that would be for preparing NCLEX...

1. prepare your resume; print it on a good quality paper (good impression) 2. dress up tidy; no colorful nail polish; no low-cut or bright color 3. Smile smile and smile (good impression) 4. Be trueful when answering the question (my opinion) cuz that way you won't be as nervious as if you were making up a GOOD answer (they can feel it) 5. ASK yourself these questions before you go: a. where do you see yourself in 5 years? (they wanna see if you'll leave soon after they train you) b. what is your strength and weakness (simple and common question but many ppl don't know about themselves) c. what is the one patient that you remember? someone that really stick to your mind? what happened? (from the answer they can get alot about YOU as a person, just be trueful when answering this) d. have you made a mistake in rotation? how would u handle this today?

HELP - Why did you decide to be a nurse?
I think everyone has their own reason...I didn't think about the money and the 'helping people' aspect of this profession. I guess it's just the subject that interests me. As a nurse you'll have to know alot about your body (anatomy, physiology), your beliefs, what values to you, cultures, diets.....a little bit of everything...I think i can take better care of my family...time to work is flexible...it's a profession about life and living? what can be better than being a nurse?^^

Need some help with my resume
Are you applying for a RN position? I think any experience with customer service is positive...as nurses need to provide customer service all the time..to patients and their family... There's no standard format for the resume...one thing to remember is to make it easy to read! If you can make it short, concise and catches the attention of the reader, you are successful. Avoid to put in too much information and bore your potential employer. Hope this helps!
