Nursing Home or Hospital
I can not take both because the hours conflict otherwise I certainly would. I am stuck deciding between the two. Any thoughts?

Nursing Home or Hospital
Help! I really could use some advice. I live in Minnesota and right now nursing jobs are very hard to come by. I have been offered two nursing positions a .7fte position in a long term care facility here in Minnesota where I live - the pay is not real great and the benefits are terrible($20.00/hr and $500 a month for family coverage with a deductible and only 80/20 coverage)and a position in Fargo North Dakota which is about 4 hours from where I live, however it is a weekend specialty position(.6 fte) in the hospital with great pay and great benefits. I would drive down for the weekend and then come back up in during the week. Everyone keeps telling me to hold on the economy is going to change and the hospitals here will hire again. However, the hospital here just laid off another 30 nurses and the area here is flooded with nurses. My goal is to one day work in a major hospital here in the area and I am afraid once they do hire again and I am competing with other nurses for those positions the nursing home experience will not count for much. Is the hospital experience worth traveling every week?

Help- Switching jobs after maternity leave
I have worked both 8 and 12 hour days. I used to work12 hour shifts in a urgent care and I have worked a M-F job in the clinic 8-5. In my experience I found the M-F job much more tiring - one I usually never got out by 5pm and I felt as though I had no real time with my kids. I would get home make supper, do laundry, bedtime routine and make sure things were ready for the next day and that pretty much took care of the evening. 2. The 2 days you have off fly by and scheduling in doctor appointments and such can be a real pain. When I worked 12 hour days I found the 12 hours were long but on my days off I was not as tired out and had lots of energy to do things, I had good quality days with my kids. I could get the things done on my days off that I needed to and did not have to come home from work and do everything and I could attend things when the kids were little like classes designed for moms and there tots, help out at preschool-school, Christmas programs, and such. It's a hard decision, best of luck!

Jobless and Frustrated
I live in Duluth Minnesota - Both major hospitals laid off and the nursing homes right now are only hiring on call. I work on call in long term care right now, but I feel like I am just treading water because the experience does not count for much. I applied for a few positions in North Dakota, Saint Cloud, Eau Claire - so we'll see.

NO NURSING JOBS!!!
I am from Minnesota and in the same boat. I graduated in December of 2009 and have applied everywhere with no luck. I was a LPN for 14 years prior to going back to school and I feel like I educated myself right out of a job. I know people that were in the graduating class ahead of me and still have not found work. I am not quite sure where this nursing shortage is either. I have heard Las Vegas, Texas, and California are states that have nursing jobs open. If you come cross any information regarding open nursing jobs please share as I will do the same. Just know you are not alone.

Jobless and Frustrated
I have worked as a LPN for the past 14 years.I worked long term care for 3.5 years and the remainder of my experience is hospital, acute care, and clinical experience. My kids finally got to the right age where it was possible for me to return to school, so I took time off work and completed R.N. school. I graduated December of 2009 and passed boards in January.I love hospital/acute care/ and clinical work and miss it deeply. I live in Minnesota and there is nothing open right now anywhere! People I know that graduated before me are still jobless. I am currently only working on call at a long term care facility as thats all that is available. I don't mind long term care - I am happy I least have a job, but it's not what I went back to school for. Not to mention I really need something full time instead of on call. I am starting to regret going back to school as I feel like I educated myself right out of a job and I miss my old job deeply. I am now considering moving. Any Advise out there?

I passed
There is a god and he is awesome!!!! I was in a terrible car wreck last night after hitting ice, my car rolled and there is no way I should of walked away from it with no injuries. The car is completely totaled. After the accident I thought this is really dumb stressing out about nclex test scores, the accident really put things into perspective. Still recovering from the shock of what I went threw, I decided well I check my status only this time with the attitude of whatever it is it is - I am alive and with my kids. Low and behold another miracle from GOD and another prayer answered = I passed. I just want to say thankyou to everyone for the supportive messages I received during this period. This is a awesome site for support. My prayers are with all those going through the stress of nclex, but please know even though right now it don't seem like it - there are worse things in life than test scores.

FAILED NCLEX ?
I just took my nclex exam yesterday, I am positive I failed! I can't stop crying and feel like my world has just ended. I have been a lpn for 14 years, I was on the deans list through the R.N. program, I took kaplan, answered and reviewed over 3000 questions between kaplan and saunders and nothing prepared me for what I just went through. I had like 10 select all that apply questions and many, many pharmacological questions on some meds I have never even heard of before. My anxiety got the better of me, a person can only take so much before they crack and my computer turned off at 75 questions. I know in my heart I failed. I feel the test was unfair and I really don't believe 75 questions can determine if you are a good nurse or not. especially the medication questions. As a nurse on the floor when I don't know a med I look it up before giving it and become familiar with it - thats patient safety. With so many medications, over 5,ooo to be specific, out there it is impossible for a nurse to remember them all. Some of the other questions I encountered were questions for specialty areas, like ICU - were a new grad would not be working there. I really feel the board of nursing needs to figure out a better way to determine if someone is competent. Personally I feel instead of a exam, it should be an apprenticeship or a fair exam. Any tips out there? Has any one taken NSCBN study courses. ANY TIPS ON HOW TO REGROUP AND REMEBER THINGS FOR 90 DAYS DOWN THE ROAD.
