  1. That’s great news! Congrats!
  2. Hi! I’m taking maternal-newborn (also thru NCC) pretty soon. Like as soon as I can do a few practice tests. I used mometrix years ago for the TEAS since I’d been out of school for years. I was hoping to see some reviews for mometrix. Good luck and please share whatever your find out!
  3. Great discussion. To be able to support people in their time of need is an absolute blessing- especially if you can support them emotionally/spiritually. I think that caring for patients is a calling, a duty, and a privilege. In this field we are in a special position to witness God's work all the time.
  4. It looked to me like 1 year RN experience was a requirement not a preference, unfortunately. I would hope a combined short-term experience as an RN + DONA certification should help!
  5. Interested in Frontier myself... sorry for hijacking the thread, but how long are you on-campus stays?
  6. SMH why did I even read this?? Glad he will NEVER be my nurse :)
  7. These are great questions... will be starting my second semester too! We had assignments for next semester posted days after the final. haha It's hard not to get started early, BUT I am telling myself this is the only "me" time I'll get for a while so I am going to hold off a bit. I am beyond excited that in my first weeks back, the material includes maternity/newborn nursing. Congrats and good luck!
  8. Retake the TEAS. Get the mometrix book called "ATI Secrets" and the ATI TEAS app on your phone. See where you are falling short and re-read that section of the mometrix book. The book also has practice exams. You don't have to re-submit your nursing application either, just send the new score over to the school. You can always call to confirm that they have updated your application. I didn't have THE BEST grades but I did very well on the TEAS and I got in to Norwalk. It helped me out a lot.
  9. No, definitely not. I took most of my classes at gateway (60%) and housatonic (30%) - I got in to Norwalk where I took 2 classes. good luck!
  10. Buy the mometrix book "ATI TEAS secrets" and get 2 apps for TEAS test prep on your phone. One is from ATI and was free to download but with all the test questions it was $9.99 - well worth it. There is another app like it from a different developer- I'm sorry that I dont recall the name - but it was free. they analyze your weak areas so you know where you should focus your studies.
  11. hi, I could be wrong but I think Gateway receives more applications than Capital, so you have a better shot of getting in to Capital. Best of luck!!!
  12. Not sure why this didn't post, I already replied! (Fellow Norwalk Student here) I use Prime, so I had everything in my cart on Amazon. I didn't want to purchase online though, due to conflicting reviews, I was unsure of the fit/cut/styles. I was expecially curious about the various pant styles, I went in to the bookstore to try them on over my clothes. I ended up actually buying mine at the bookstore because I was able to use financial aid funds, and each piece was only $2-4 more than amazon.
  13. @ Thatchickomi I am also very anxious about starting NCC. I called two professors (C.Y. and K.H.) and while I know the first one went away on vacation, neither have returned my calls. I am wondering if we need 12 or 24 months of PrepU software for Brunner & Suddarth's Med/Surg and Taylor Fundamentals. Its a significant price difference. Makes me wonder if we have to keep buying different books and access codes throughout the program!
  14. @ Fauzia At NCC, we were only given one assignment from Taylor Fundamentals. Thank you for your insight regarding dosage calculations. I will get started! Does anyone know if we have to keep buying books throughout school?
  15. Hi everybody! Just got a WHOLE bunch of books. Oh my... Curious if all the CCC program uses Brunner & Suddarth's Med / Surg as well as Taylor Fundamentals of Nursing? At Norwalk we received our clinical assignments about a month ago. Only two weekends left before it all begins! Everybody ready? Excited??
  16. I haven't logged into facebook in ages so I would be useless to a group
  17. i have attempted to reply to this several times, no idea whats going on.. just wanted to add my two cents..i think its better that you found out you are diabetic now so that you have the summer to get used to any new meds and get your sugar under control!
  18. Thanks to everyone who chimed in saying that schools have different due dates. I would be scrambling too! My insurance just kicked in, so I would be paying for everything OOP. Also I have read that some insurance carriers do not cover the cost of titers, has that happened to anybody? I am NOT interested with being re-vaxxed for something I am already immune to, but it found it ridiculous that the immunization would be covered and not the titer for some individuals. Will be calling insurance before I make the appt. Sorry for those of you having issues with titers etc...I am the queen of "if it can go wrong, it will" so I am CERTAIN I will be searching for docs, titer issues etc.
  19. Besides proving your AP2 grade (transcripts) and registering for classes, what needs to be done by this date? I keep seeing July 1st as the deadline!
  20. Hey, I have seen people saying there was a June 1 deadline for documents, but I am only seeing that date as a dealine for registering for classes..Am i missing something? I'm seeing this on my NCC bannerweb (docs for accepted students): Information regarding the registration process for nursing courses will be communicated via your College email. Your deadline for registering is June 1, 2017. Students are required to provide documentation of current Professional Level certification in CPR for adult, child, infant and AED by July 1, 2017. (Heart Saver is Not Acceptable) Certification can only be earned through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross and must remain current throughout the program. More information about course offerings is included in these documents. All of our clinical partners have specific health requirements that you must comply with in order to attend clinical. Information about the requirements and the forms you will use are enclosed with these documents. All Health Assessment Forms must be completed by your Healthcare Provider and uploaded to Castle Branch by July 1, 2017.
  21. Guys whats a PPD?
  22. I'm sure we will hear more about this in orientation, but I wanted to share something that was news to me! Found this on 2016-2017 Handbook: 1. The student is required to complete the online CT Hospital Association (CHA) Health and Safety Training Course and required clinical orientation activities prior to participation in clinical experiences. The course is available at: Health and Safety Training Course
  23. Hope that's not the case! I would say that out of 5 girls in my AP2 class (@HCC) who applied to CCCNP, 4 are closer in age to us, one is a young 20's. However, not one of them is going to Norwalk! I don't know anyone there. I am surprised that you are the only one who spoke up on this thread! Out of 80 seats, so far only 52 have registered... My advisor was in touch within days of my acceptance, I made an appointment and registered that same day. Follow up emails went out saying if people hadn't met with their advisor they needed to hurry up and do so. Wonder what the hold up is!
  24. Me!!! I'm Lauren. I'm 29 yr old mom and I live in Guilford. I just finished AP2 yesterday lol. Transferring credits from HCC and Gateway,
