New Nurse--Organization Tips?
Well, I'm about to graduate nursing school (Eeee! So excited!! And nervous!) I accepted a job on a cardiac step-down unit. I would love some tips on staying organized throughout your shifts. What kinds of things do you do to plan care, check and administer your meds, and just basically meet all of your patients' needs? I know I'm going to have to come up with my own routine, but I would LOVE some tips from experienced nurses that I can try to incorporate. Thanks so much! Any advice is welcome! :grad:

Is this a HIPAA violation?
We were taught that ANY info which could identify a person is a HIPAA violation. If she said anything that would identify the mother or child to someone else (just mentioning the fact that she came into the ER that night could do it), then it's potentially a violation. And besides that, it's very unprofessional.

CRANIAL NERVES
I just realized that I still remember their functions: (again, another fabulous acronym from my A&P teacher) Some Say Marry Money But My Brother Says Big Boobs Matter Most S: Sensory M: Motor B: Both (Cranial nerves I and II=Sensory, III and IV=Motor, V=Both... you get it) :wink2:

CRANIAL NERVES
Hey! I was trying to find the acronym that I used, but it was last fall semester and I guess I don't have it anymore. Anyway, I remember that it was really dirty-something to do with old men, viagra, and lady partss...my A&P teacher gave it to the whole class and said that the dirtier the acronym, the better you could remember it. Maybe that will help when you're looking for your acronym... He also showed me that if you start on the anterior part of the skull, from a transverse point of view, the cranial nerves basically start at the forehead and work their to the back of the head, almost in perfect order (I-XII). I don't know if that's what you need, but that really helped me. Good luck!! :nuke:

Covenant or UMC???
Hi! I have a question for you Texans! I'll be starting at Covenant SON (Lubbock) in August, if all goes as planned =). I've been looking at different ways to pay for school- I know there's HealthTraxx, in which you have to sign a contract to work for Covenant upon graduation, and then UMC also has some incentives if you sign a contract with them. So... my question is: Covenant or UMC? Has anyone ever worked at either facility? Any feedback? Or maybe you know about other scholarships that are available (besides FastWeb). Thanks! I really appreciate your feedback!! ~CandiceMarie

what i almost did... was it crazy?
Hi! I think it was very brave of you to try signing up for those three classes during the same semester. But it's hard to imagine just how tough A&P really is. A girl in my Chem class last semester was thinking of taking both I and II during the same semester, and everyone that had taken it or was taking it was trying to convince her not to. She didn't understand, she kept saying that she understood that she had to study-that's what you have to do for any class. But A&P is not just any class! It turns out that the school would not even let her sign up for both classes during the same semester, she said there was no way around it. I took A&P I along with Chem and Human Growth & Development last semester. I got all A's, but I'm telling you, all I did was STUDY! Especially for A&P. I don't even work! My A&P class shrank to half it's original size by the end of the semester, and even some of the students who made it to the end still had to retake it. It's quite possible to do good, but it takes dedication. And that is the number one class that nursing schools look at when considering you for admissions! Here is a friendly tip- read your book, make sure that you understand all of the information. Don't just think that you understand if you can follow along in the lecture. It helps tremendously to read ahead, too. I wish you the best of luck this upcoming semester!! It sounds like you have a lot of determination. I bet you'll do great! :) God bless! Candice
