  1. Mine will remind me on the difficult days there's always a place to de-stress go to a beach mentally or physically
  2. question to anyone who will reply....... i did med/surg for about 5 months... it about killed me. so i went into the field of infertility for the last 11 years. no hospital just office based.. so my practice in NV is closing its doors at the end of the month and my M.D. has some pull and i mentioned to her that i liked the adrenal rush but i like the down time... what kind of suicide am i doing if i apply as an ER nurse that has not done any acute care for the last 11 years.. i learn quick im 45 yrs of age.. just looking for some advise from anyone that knows.. my job ends at the end of the month and i got to figure out a plan of what i need to do. oh by the way las vegas is the worst state to get a job... i will take suggestions from anyone. PS i really do not want med surg ever again, but that is if what i have to do to suck it up then i guess i will take it. DO NOT WANT MED SURGE but suggestions are more than welcomed as i am so new to job seeking stuff. HELP!!!
  3. I too work in a fertility clinic for the last 6 years and have been waiting to see some nurses in here have the same job as i do. I love every minute of it, the down side is depressing and my heart goes out to my patients that fail ivf and even iui's. Just walking into the clinic is emotional enough for them, let alone expensive. Not everyone is made of money. I do agree a little psych does help but also your heart and ears are very helpful to the patients. i just recently had a former patient call me on my cell just to say hi and that she was in the process of adoption through china and wanted to tell me that she just needed to hit rock bottom before she realized she couldnt have children of her own, her husband started drinking she in depression, almost divorce but she somehow pulled out of it, she worded it very differently but are much stronger in their marriage, she admitted to me her husband was frustrated at our practice because they didnt get pregnant, knowing we have no control over that, but he got on the phone and apologized. I thought that was a nice gesture but not needed. there are very rewarding days. we too see a lot of pt's on a daily basis, and the look on their faces when they leave is so "overwhelming" i give a follow up call just to see if they need anything, have anymore questions after hearing what they need to do after their follow up or initial consult. I would love to get a forum going for infertility nurses here, i now certification is no longer avail. they got rid of that in 2000 or 2001. i do read NPG thru ASRM and they are trying to get that back, i know i would like to be certified. love to hear from all the infertility nurses. Julie:nurse:
  4. I have yet to hear not to pull back on IM injections. I teach patients to give IM injections in my field of nursing, i have yet to get blood return but my patients will call me in a panic that they did. I am keeping with the old rules even if there is a new rule out there
  5. There are many areas to live in that are good, just depends on a hospital you would like to work. Summerlin is good, green valley/henderson is growing and is a good area and so is the north west area, which is also growing. i dont ever recommend downtown of course with kids especially! Always avoid crime ridden areas, which is in the more condensed areas, if you want more specifics i can get that for you since my husband is CSI with metro. just email me at [email protected] julie
  6. Yes there is a steady supply of nursing positions open around here. Vegas keeps on growing and they keep building new hospitals everytime i look around, dont know what area of nursing you are in but i know there is a big shortage out here just as every where else you look. they also have good sign on bonus!! julie
  7. Thank you for your advice, i will take that advice to the heart and go and take hands on class, sometimes i feel like im in a fog, many hours i guess :) makes perfect sense too. thanks again, well im off to find a class that i can attend. have a great and safe holiday (s)
  8. just a quick question, might sound stupid but hey gotta give it a shot. I work in an office setting and do work with an anesthesiologist, and my doc but we do conscious sedation at times. i wonder if there is an online course for acls. i have never been cert before all i see is re cert. any answers or comments greatly appreciated. Also is it a thing that you must do in a class setting or could i do this online due to the fact it would be rare that i would ever use acls. I know sounds weird, but dont know until you ask right?
  9. Not everyone who has pco has to go on birth control, hopefully that wont be you, i have seen cases where the woman has to be on both birth control and metformin at the same time due to the testosterone levels being elevated, but not everyone has to go on them. besides, its for a medical condition however, i am not catholic, so im not too too familiar with the beliefs.
  10. i agree with everything NY has to say definately go see an REI MD for your pcos, then your established when you want to try and conceive. good luck with the glucophage and your future fertility:)
  11. i have been here since 1999 and at first was an adjustment not climate coming from so cal, but the people!!!!! But i have adjusted just fine, since i am no longer in the hospital setting, i choose office setting and love it. i avoid traffic via surface streets much faster than the crappy freeways out here, just like so. cal. i love the heat, hate the cold due to the winds when they pick up during the cold season, i wish it would be warm all the time, i can handle the 120's just fine just let me be by the water!!!! oh wait, the lake is disappering, water shortage is serious out here! Stop building. there is watering restrictions, cant even wash your car at your house, so here i drive in my nice german car that i worked so hard for and its flipping dirty, and the car washes arent cheap and do a crappy job, my dog can do a better job. ITS ALL ABOUT LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. we all know crime is everywhere you just need to know where to move, stay out of the ghetto, thats where it all happens lol, no its everywhere, my hubby is CSI and tells me about all the bad areas, so i have a sense of where to stay out of, for my safety. Remember location location location. Many hospitals not many nurses, if i needed to be flown to the hospital for trauma reasons i would mark on my chest in ink take me to a different state, this place is scarry. our own governor went out of state for surgery.... tell ya something, its sad but true, i hope vegas gets better in the health care thing along with the malpractice issues, that scares our docs away the good ones!!!!!!! so all in all vegas is wonderful place to reside, if you like the heat, and want to have something to do, i pretty much avoid the strip like the plague, im only there when i have company
  12. i have been an REI RN for the last 3.5 years and love every minute of it and i agree with you NY, i have been searching everywhere for other nurses like me, REI to chat with and such, so many things to discuss. I realize this was posted last year but i hope someone will see this and we can get more fertility nurses or a forum going for Reproductive endocrinology infertility nurses because they no longer have certification for REI nurses, so i think just a little something would help to have others in the field just to talk to:p
  13. prunepie; i am an rn working in a office setting and that was my goal before i entered the nursing field, never wanted hospitals, however when i moved to las vegas thats all i could get at the time worked it for 6 months, anyway, back to subject, yes places to hire RN's with MA's, i am working in the field of infertility and love it and i actually get paid more than i did at the hospital, and i get to work 7-4, and with the type of practice i work in i work on call 1 week out of the month and have 3 MA's under me
