hello!!!! i am going to veeb next week to "sign up" to take the entrance test. besides getting my credits evaluated at adelphi (3.15) and malloy(2.95) this is my first real attempt at a test!!! i am interested to see what VEEB has to offer. i would love to get my adn or bsn since i have about 54 units(but no math/science)....but i am 32 going on 33 and its soon to be baby making time and money is very tight as it is for everyone these days.(currently a hairstylist) i read from this post that the entrance test is 9th grade math and 12th grade english. i am not worried about english...but feeling very silly about what is considered 9th grade math?? although i have 54 college units/credits i was never able to pass college algebra so i am worried about what is on this test. can anyone advise? can you give an example of math questions? is this an hour test??? just curious? is there a fee? if i do pass this test...there is an interview? what do they ask??? also when i spoke to the woman on the phone they said to bring my birth certificate and high school diploma? never been asked by any school for birth certificate or a high school diploma before...i dont even think i have a diploma....i graduated and have a transcript..but my actual diploma is probably lost ( i am old it was decades ago lol) i am not from new york originally ..i have only been here for a few years.... i know nassau cc has a great adn program but sooo competitive....and the private schools are easier to get into but 25k for adelphi is veryyyyyyy scaryyyyyyyy. although.... isnt veeb for one year somthing like 10-12k with books etc? since i am not from here i am just worried.... do employers see VEEB as a great highly regarded educational program for lpns? also ...if you had 54 units.... would you just suck it up and go for the bsn at adelphi or malloy? like i said i am going to test at veeb but would really like to understand more since i am not able to get much info out the the receptionists over the phone. thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!xoxo jenn

I am soo confused lol i was researching beth israel and everyone talking about nln scores. it seems its a test to see your aptitude or general knowledge to determine if you are smart enough right? sorta like sats? if so... does every school require you to take this or just aa degree schools? can you take this test way prior to applying for schools.... to see if you are "smart enough" to go to nursing school? are there study guides? if somone could clue me in or send me a link i would really appreciate it!! thanks so much!

berta i also agree wholeheartedly....economics plays a huge part in weight and health. i have been there also..although mine was boxes and boxes of top ramen..sigh. xo jenn

thankyou so much... i have done alot of research on the schools websites in ny/long island..but they can say a 2.5 but in reality like you said...they can turn away people who have a 3.5 if everyones gps are very high..sigh. i am in los angeles now taking nursing prereqs like sociology, psych , health..and if we arent able to move this summer..will take in the fall chemistry microbiology etc. i have about 40 other general ed units from going to a community college before. i am broke as a joke as mostof us are..but part of me is feeling that i realllly want to go for a bsn..since i do have general ed units behind me and i do not have a previous bachelors. i really appreciate all of your help :) how is school going for you??? xo jenn

in regards to the psych part of being overweight... for example... when i gained 100 pounds in a year..... THATS when i became psychologically affected...i went to the dr crying bc my body was freaking out!!!! he ran blood sugar... and said you are fine..here is prozac and go get therapy. i am not saying i am like all people...but i belong to groups for women with endocrine disorders who were blamed, mocked, scolded etc when reaching out to the medical profession for help. do i eat very well?? nope.i could eat better, but i dont eat badly either. but as sooooooooooooooooooo many people have said... i eat better than my 140 pound hubby!! for example. so, i believe that dietary eduction is important..but i believe more research needs to continue to find out why certain people eating the same amount of calories fat etc will gain weight and other people will not. i believe in looking at a whole person..and not just running a cbc. i believed in docs wholeheartedly when i began my battle with health and weight. my only wish is that i was more informed and demanding to see an endocrinologist sooner..before years of becoming "psychologically screwed up" lol because i felt it was all of my fault. the only reason i responded to this post is that i hope the world can become less fat phobic ..because it seems to me its the only acceptable discrimination left...you cant call someone derogatory racial names..but mocking someone for being fat or skinny or short is still okay. something is wrong with that. xoxo jenn

hmm so can i ask a couple more questions..is any of the process first come first serve..or is it strictly by gpa? also i wonder how so many people get into to busy schools with 3.0s for example.. and do you think..given the adn programs are flooded with applicants that private universities would be more lienient with gpa's. i am not asking this in order to slack off on my grades..but if i try my hardest and come away with a 3.0-3.5 ...it sounds like things are SO competitive that i am afraid i might not be accepted anywhere..or am i just being dramatic lol i am planning on living in nassau or suffolk... depends where my fiancee lands a job back there..his family is in massepequa xoxo thanks so much ! xo jenn

hello,,i am currently in los angeles..and moving to long island shortly..i have gone online and looked at teh various nursing schools..either adn or bsn in li..and what their requirements are for acceptance..but i need to know the real deal... for example a school might require a 3.0..but in actuality only those with 3.5s may be accepted..i would love to hear what you needed to ahve to get in.....thanks so much xoxojenn ps..the idea of having to get a 3.5 freaks me out!!!!!!! grrrr

hello i just posted about this question the other night before i saw this post... most states allow registered nurses with training to perform ipl/laser photo facials etc... some states under physcians liscense..some only with supervision...and some states do not allow it. here in los angeles there are tons of rn's who do this... like i said in my other post... wheni went to my derm and told them i am going to school for nursing they some..hun get your laser training when the time comes..rns here pull about a grand a day doing cosmetic procedures/laser..so i am very interested since i am a cosmetologist..if one day i can put my beauty training to use with nursing as well as being a derm nurse in general :) xoxo jenn

i too have wondered this very same question ..for example..... i pretty much know i do not want to work in a hospital setting..and i have thought to myself..then what the heck are you doing going to school to be a nurse..especially since thats where you train and get experience..but i have to remind myself that i can do ltc nursing or home nursing or school nursing..and it doesnt mean i shouldnt become a nurse if i dont feel i will like certain aspects xo jenn

i have a question related to this.....i have been pg before but lost it..during the time i was pg..i was literally barfing in my car..all over myself..with no ryhme or reason.... my question is... i know you can take medical leave.... but for how long...the whole pregnance?? and what can you do if you need the money but cant do some of the jobs??? thanks so much since i do plan on becoming preg again one day and fear the nausea is going to be a big one for me again ..thanks xo jenn

hi everyone... i do agree that there are alot of overweight people who have very little knowledge about nutrition or do have the knowledge but do not make changes for their health. but i would like to say that as an overweight person i received many many many rude comments from docs and nurses who did not believe me when i said i gained more pounds than i care to mention..at that time i didnt know what i know now..and all the regular blood tests came back fine and then i was told..you need prozac and a diet. years later i was finally diagnosed with hypothyroidism and polycystic ovarian syndrome. my point to this is..when i was a patient i just wanted someone to believe in me and help me find the answers..not blame me... i hope when i finally become a nurse..i can do the same xoxo jenn

bloodman..thank you.... so in your opinion..would you say get hired...THEN get a note from a doc...OR tell the employers up front that you can only work 8's?? i dont want to be dismissed or secretly discriminated if i come in with a work note...whats your opinion which way is better?? thank you xox jenn

my derm recommended amlactin lotion 12% for my eczema which is what it sounds like you have..you can get it at a pharmacy... i have eczema and also contact dermitis or allegic eczema and i do notice after long periods of washing hands..that it flares up... even if you dont have eczema this amlactin rocks..i would highly recommend it ..its about 12 bucks..and not prescription but they have it behind the counter at most pharmacies or you can buy it online xoxo jenn.... i have tried everythign else..that helps soothe but never helps prevent or cure like this xoxo jenn
