  1. Maybe find out how much training you'll get before they let you go out on your own. But remember, everyone starts out with no experience. You have to get it somehow.
  2. I wasn't excited at all. I questioned whether or not this is really what I wanted to do. I'm still not excited, and I still question it everyday. I'm hoping it gets better next semester. A friend who is a nurse gave me some good advice for nursing school, "Aim low and keep moving." The course material is easy, there is just A LOT of it. I study hard in the beginning of the semester so that I can slack off at the end when I'm burnt out. And you'll be fine in clinicals, they don't expect you to know everything at first. They know you have to learn by doing. Good luck. It sucks, but it goes quick.
  3. Sounds like you need a study group. Email your teacher and ask if she can give you the info of some of your classmates. OR try posting a message at a local community college to see if anyone taking the same class needs a study buddy. If those dont work just talking it out OUT LOUD with ANYONE will help tremendously. Talk to your kids about it. Point to their bodies and name the muscles and parts. Talk to your friends about it and get them to quiz you. I cannot tell you how much just explaining the things out loud to someone else helped me study. Also your A and P book should have come with a DVD. Or you can buy the DVD seperate. That DVD is worth its weight in gold. It is interactive and has sample quizzes and tests you can take. Videos to watch, and a real cadaver you can dissect! Its really awesome and helps sooo much. Definitely use it. I can't imagine taking A and P online. It must be so hard, and it doesn't sound like your teacher is really teaching. I'm sorry. But you can do it!!! and in the end you'll probably know all the parts better than your classmates that took A&P in class! Good Luck!
  4. I just started nursing school and I'm working toward an ADN. I have been hearing a lot about new grads not being able to find work because of the recession. I try to keep telling myself that the recession will end and someone will hire me somewhere but it is really discouraging to hear this. Part of the reason I wanted to get into nursing was because I want to travel and people told me I'd be able to "get a job anywhere." It is upsetting to hear that that is not true. I know I'm doing the right thing because I want to help people. Its not a matter of me questioning the path I've chosen. I'm just wondering how uncertain my future will be once I am an RN. And I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on things I can do while I'm in school to better my chances of being hired once I graduate. Any words of wisdom are appreciated.
  5. I have a question about this. I am just starting nursing school- working toward an ADN. We got a handout about extern positions for nursing students at the local hospitals but you have to be a CNA to get them. So will I automatically be qualified after my first semester? Or will I have to take a certification test? Or will I have to do more than that? I'd like to start working in a hospital asap. Especially considering the trouble new nursing grads are having finding jobs.
