Misery loves company.....I could've started this post, too! 44 y/o single mom---2nd clinical semester---and I've been SO close to quitting, too. It's not the school work, I can handle that just fine - clinicals are killing me, though....I just can't get comfortable, and the way we are sometimes treated by intstructors has almost made me walk out. I'm hoping that will change - after 2 years of pre-reqs (at my age), it's hard to consider dismissing all of my hard work and sincere effort at this point... I'll keep holding on and hope that it's all worth it in the end----

Hey everyone - yes, the acceptance method at NCC is a mystery. It took me 2x before I got in and I had a 4.0...and a ton of credits under my belt as well. Perhaps someone on this board will have a different opinion, but I personally think that those who haven't completed A&P II really shouldn't bother... (you really should already have it on your transcript)...there are just too many applicants out there who already have all their pre-reqs done and then some. Some even have prior AS or even BS/BS degrees... And BTW, the nursing classes are SO time consuming, I couldn't imagine taking another class at the same time anyway--- It's not impossible to get in if you have the grades, but you do have to be patient and have as many classes completed as you possibly can---

I "got it" - but not everyone, apparently! I'm sure I will be whining (internally) in a few weeks when I'm cracking the books instead of kicking back and sipping a glass of "whine" like I am right now......

I read this thread with a very tongue-in-cheak mentality....I didn't think anyone was trying to be rude, really. We all have our stories and have worked hard to get where we are. I think everyone should lighten up and give themselves and each other a break! (And that's all I have to say about that ).

" Sorry, premedwoahs........but this sounds like "wanting to help people" to me. Maybe not spelled out as you would have liked, but I definitely "got" it.

Leonard appointed to nursing board TARRYTOWN -- Margaret Leonard, senior vice president of clinical services at Hudson Health Plan, has been appointed to a five-year term on the New York State Board of Nursing. The board oversees registered nurses, nurse practitioners and licensed practical nurses, with the charge to advise and assist the Board of Regents and the State Education Department on matters of professional regulation. As a board member, Leonard will help implement a proposed law, now before the New York State Legislature, mandating that new nurses obtain bachelor degrees in nursing within 10 years, something she championed as chair of the New York State Nurses Association Legislative Council. Leonard is an adjunct instructor at the College of New Rochelle School of Nursing, where she teaches the politics of health care. She also has a home in Lake Luzerne. In 2006, Leonard received the National Case Manager of the Year Award from the CMSA. She is a graduate of an Associate Degree Program at Nassau Community College and received her master's degree and post-master's Family Nurse Practitioner's certification from Adelphi University where she graduated cum laude. Leonard is past president of the Case Management Society of America, past chair of the American Nurses Credentialing Center Nurse Case Management Expert Panel, chair of the Case Management Society of America Public Policy Committee, past chair of New York State Nurses Association Legislative Council, and past member of NYSNA Political Action Committee Board of Trustees. She is a member of the National Quality Forum (NQF) Quality and Measures Council and has been appointed to the NQF Steering Committee on Care Coordination. Leonard is also involved in the work of several national and regional coalitions including the National Transitions of Care Coalition, and is a member of its Public Policy Task Force; Center for Medicare and Medicaid Technical Expert Panel on Hospital Readmissions within 30 Days; and CARF International Accreditation BOD. Hi Kuklara - I'm G3. Yes, I'm excited - but trying to enjoy time with my kids before September comes around! I have my books, but haven't really started reading yet (I got them a lot cheaper on line, too).... I ordered my uniform today.....and I have an appt. for my physical in a week or so. Still have everything else to do.....

I'd call first just to make sure. The shelves for Nursing (and in general, really)were pretty bare - they don't appear to be stocked for fall classes yet. I will probably purchase mine on line, which can be cheaper sometime, too.

It took about 2 hours and then another hour and a half standing on line at the registrar. Questions were about stress management. Essay was about how you cope in difficult situations. Also had to define 5 words and use them in a sentence. Nothing too hairy. FYI - Don't bother hitting the bookstore when you're done - the books aren't in yet! I was told that today's interviews are for night students - is that correct? Good luck!

Then Stony Brook must be in trouble with only a 91% in 2009 if this is true. Colombia had a 91.5 and NYU had a 88.5 - these are terrible? The very few schools with a 97+ pass rate are much smaller than the 100's of students that these ones graduate. Apples and oranges, imo.

Grindin - are you currently a student in the NCC Nursing Program?

Sorry Suzi - Don't give up, though! I didn't get in the first time around, either -Also, I know that they sometimes call people back who got initially got rejected if they don't fill up all the spots they have. That happened to a friend of mine - she got a rejection letter the same day I got mine, and then 3 weeks later she got a phone call (2 days before the interview day) and they told her to show up for the interview - now she's finishing her 1st semester. I was just sad that I couldn't join her! You never know....

I'm sure you're referring to the Brooklyn campus....would you happen to know if there are any plans to offer an accelerated program at their Brookville (Long Island) campus/ C.W. Post?

Congratulations to you as well, SPB! I applied to NYIT as well, but decided to cross it off my list for a number of reasons - the biggest being the program's lack of accreditation by the NLNAC or the CCNE. I contacted an administrator at the school to question their standing, and was told that "It's a relatively new program, and obtaining accreditation takes time - and is currently pending". There have been few threads on this site about this issue which you look into and decide for yourself. You should also check the stats for the school to help you make up your mind. Nassau's reputation and stats are top-notch, and the cost is beyond a bargain! I was accepted to Molloy's Dual Degree program as well, but plan on attending Nassau (if my interview goes well, that is!). Molloy is an excellent school, and I could have completed a BSN in just one additional semester....but the Nassau program suits my lifestyle much better for now - as well as my pocketbook!

Definitely go for it! I did it last year - put forth my best effort and ended up with an A. If you devote the necessary time to it, those 5 weeks will fly by before you know it! I'm sure you won't regret it if you take it, especially since you're doing so well in A&P I. I almost wish I did Micro over the summer, too. I took it last fall and that was one long, LONG semester!

Sorry, Suzi - I had a busy weekend and just saw your post now. Yes, I never expected that a few grades from when I was 19 would come back to bite me! Even though I ended up graduating with a very respectable GPA, my grades in Statictics & Intro to Psych have been hanging over my head and TAUNTING me. I'm so glad that the hard work I've done at Nassau for the past 3 semesters has finally paid off - I received my acceptance letter today! I'm finding it hard to concentrate on my term paper that's due this Friday, I'm just so excited. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get your letter today, too!!!!

Oh, I see - you're interview is a different day.... I'll be sure to fill you in what I can. Dogmom67, I actually took A&P II last summer at Nassau - and I found it to be just fine. Almost easier, I thought, than A&P I was during the full semester. (I had a very demanding professor for A&P I, though). As long as you keep up with the work and dedicate yourself for those 4 weeks, it should be fine. I took it in the 1st summer session and was done by the end of June - just in time for summer! It really flew by.
