  1. No I wasn't an insider, I applied via the website that is open to the public. I applied though in January and was very lucky to be offered a job in the one and only unit that I applied for! I really hope more options open up for you! good luck!
  2. I am just curious as to what hospital you are refering to for this contract...I had a similar problem at a hospital. I was offerend a job and then a few days later they told me about a contract that I would have to sign. It stated that if I left before two years was finished or I was terminated for any reason (including layoff) I would have to pay 15k dollars in 30 days. If I did not pay it in 30 days I would have to pay for the leagal fees to sue me as well. I did not sign this contract nor do I think any new grad should...obviously this hospital had problems with turnover...there has to be a reason behind that.
  3. We have a student from our class speak and we also choose a professor to speak at our pinning ceremony. After the pinning there is a slide show of pictures throughout our four years in nursing school that some of the people in our class put together. Besides the tiny reception after that is the extent of our pinning ceremony.
  4. Thank you for the link to the other post!
  5. Hi All, I will be graduating in May!! I am from New England in my early 20s and will be moving to Baltimore for my job that begins in August. I was wondering what people's opinions are about living in Baltimore? Any specific neighborhoods I should look at? Has any one had good or bad experiences with specific Realtors? Any bits of info would be greatly appreciated! --Thanks!
  6. I am a May graduate, I started applying for jobs in November...after some ups and downs I accepted a position in March. I don't think it is ever to early to begin looking and putting your name out there. The recruiters will take it in to consideration that you have not graduated yet....good luck!
  7. I also found that the nurse managers that I interviewed thought it was really good when I asked where they got their start/what type of specialty they started in and why? How about computerized charting too...and expectations for nurses to join a committee?
  8. gogatsby, I did apply through the website but it was in the end of december, beginning of january. They got back in touch with me in 2weeks or so for an interview. I hope something comes up for you...good luck!
  9. Hi I got a job recently at Johns Hopkins for the Aug. orientation. I think that the availability depends on what type of job you would like to do. But do you have a leg up since you have already passed the boards!
  10. Johns Hopkins (main campus) is hiring...i just got a job to start in August
  11. I just got a job in the Johns Hopkins PICU!!! They were the only person out of like 10 applications to get back to me and from there it was smooth sailing!
  12. you would say computer boob!
  13. The key to this question is: The nurse determines the transfusions were effective when repeat laboratory tests indicate which of the following results? You do not need to know how much (numerically) packed RBCs increase the H/H but what a normal range of H/H is. This eliminates all the others and leaves the correct answer: C. Just do not think too much into the question..look for the key words.
  14. Blinks 14- The thing would stop me from breaking the contract is that I would have to pay them back 15,000 dollars! Thanks for your input.
  15. I will be graduating this May and I have a dilemma. I started interviewing for a job at a hospital with a nurse residency program. I went up to the hospital and met and interviewed with the nurse managers and their clinical coordinators of two floors at the hospital. I love the hospital and really love the area as well. I think it is a perfect fit. I was offered two different jobs at the hospital and decided to take the one I really wanted. The problem is that a day after I accepted the position, HR called and told me that I would have to sign a two year agreement to stay at the hospital, with nothing in it for me besides the nurse residency program, no sign on bonus or tuition reimbursement involved. She told me that other hospitals around the country that have a program like this have their new grads sign contracts as well and that it is new for the hospital to do this. I really want to work here and have every intention of staying at the hospital for at least two years if not more. But what bothers me most is I was not told any of this and had accepted the job. Do you think they would wave it since it is so new? Should I start looking for another place to work?
