West Georgia Tech January Competitive selection
I will be applying for WCTC in July for the Fall acceptance. Kisha, keep hanging in there and try again. I have heard many of the schools are highly competitive and they have to turn alot of students down due to the class sizes v. # of applicants. I am re-taking A & P I right now to improve my GPA on the required pre-reqs so I hope that is going to help my application. I got a C last time I took it due to not being able to take the final cause I was deployed and missed the deadline due to no internet. Take care and God Bless

Matriculation prior to requirement for TEAS test
Were you already accepted into the Nursing Program before they changed the testing requirements? For instance, if I am already accepted into Kennesaw State under the old requirements, I don't need to meet the new changes, but in order to transfer to the Nursing Program I have to apply separately to that program and would need to meet all requirements as of the date I apply. I think you will need to plan to take the TEAS.

Can I have info on the Emory Nursing program please?
Why don't you also look at schools in the area like Kennesaw or George State - they are also highly recommended schools but less than half the cost of Emory.

Feeling Cornered
on another note, being a right-to-work state has nothing to do with whether she could be reprimanded or fired for being late to work. If it were a union state, which would cause as many problems as it would "solve", she could still be fired for being late - it would just have to be better documented so they could fire her "for cause" as required by the union. The only difference is in a right-to-work state there is less paperwork required, but we still do the paperwork for the most part just to show it was not in violation of Title VII.

Feeling Cornered
I am transitioning from 5 years in Human Resources to become a Nurse. And like others have said here, there is no "protection" against being reprimanded for not being at work on time due to childcare issues. Unfortunately, having family obligations can interfere with work, which is another reason I am transitioning. Maybe you could advocate to your employer to offer daycare on site? Many healthcare facilities offer this to help reduce such issues. Or like others have said, have a back up, and then another back up you can rely on. Bottom line is it is your responsibility to coordinate child care and be at work on time - not your bosses. I know that is harsh, but I am speaking from the other side, the HR side which sees the termination reasons - and there are many that have to do with family responsibilities that interfered with work and at some point the person was terminated because it interfered too much.

Can you take a blood pressure reading without a stethoscope?
When I was in the Army training to be a medic our class our instructor taugt us how to watch the needle to see where it pauses and starts to pulse along with the heatbeat. Where it starts and stops to pulse should match the same place where you start and stop hearing the beat in the stethescope. We used this method when there was too much going on around you to be able to listen for the beat.

CHOA new grad pay info...
Hello, I was wondering if CHOA normally hires new grads for 3 12 hour shifts, or a normal 40 hour work week? Thanks,

Getting into Kennesaw State University Accelerated
Hello, Me again =) I have been doing alot of researching here and on other sites and found EduKan where they offer online labs for the A & P and Chem pre-reqs. I can take the proctored exams on base, but finding the lab to take online has been difficult. It looks like the online GPC courses I was planning on are only the class portion for 3 credits, no lab. Has anyone else taken courses at EduKan and been able to transfer them to KSU or any other GA Nursing college? Thanks,

Getting into Kennesaw State University Accelerated
Hello, I am looking at applying for KSU Fall 2010 term for the accelerated BSN program. I am finishing my BS in Psychology this spring online and will be taking the other pre-reqs in the next year before I return to the states. I currently work overseas in Human Resouces but I was a medic in the Army also. I have a 3.0 currently, and hope to get mostly A's in the other pre-req courses. I was just wondering if there is anything else I should do to better my chances of getting accepted? I would like the accelerated program and live in Marietta, so even going to Rome would not be too bad. I am not sure where Jasper is, I am still new to the ATL area. If I do not get into Kennesaw on the first try, can I go to GPC for a semester and then transfer or do they prefer to take the entire program only with KSU? Thanks for all your help - I see many KSU students and grads are already on this site and I hear it is one of the best schools around. God Bless and Happy New Year
