I got in the Masters Psych NP for spring 2012!!!

Just found out I got accepted for Spring 2012 Master Program for Psych NP!!! So excited!!! How is everyone's classes going?

I have a question for the people that have applied to USA MSN or DNP program, did you guys write a personal statement when you applied? Do you think it is beneficial to do so?

Any one applying to USA for spring 2012? I am!!!

My PRN job pays the same as a regular staff plus no shift differential

So how can I find out the terms and conditions of the contract if it is not listed in anything I signed? I have no doubt it will break all ties with the agency which I am ok with but its the hospital that I worry about. This will be the last contract I will ever do.

Ok so I got all the paper work I have signed regarding the contract I started and it doesn't mention any consequences if someone was to break the contract, BUT when I told the agency I wanted to resign from the assignment, they started threatening me saying I will break all ties with them and the Hospital!! Well how can that be if nothing like that is mentioned in the paperwork I signed?? Are they just bluffing?

Yes I think I signed a whole bunch of papers but I didn't get a copy of any of it, I guess it would be good idea to request for them. Thanks guys.

That's a good question, this was my first contract assignment so I did not really ask a lot of questions, or didn't know the right questions to ask at least. But shouldn't they have discussed it with me? would the terms and conditions have stated my future opportunities for the hospital NOT through the agency?

So I started a 7 week contract assignment through an Agency with a major local hospital in clinical informatics, no patient care, basically learning the computer system and then training the physicians on it. The agency had told me once I complete the assignment, I have the opportunity to go per diem with the Hospital, which is what I want!! It's a way to get my foot in the door. But one week into the assignment, I got offered a position that I wanted with potential to go full time with benefits which is what I need!! So even though I was only hired as part time, they gave me over time hrs my first week while I'm into my second week into the contract with the hospital. By the way, my second job knows that I am working a 7 week contract and said they were willing to work around their schedule, but I wasn't expecting this many hrs!!!!Well, I am just soooo exhausted, and thinking of just quiting my contract, My question is, if I do so, would it hurt my chances to get per diem jobs at the Hospital in the future? Would they know since it's through an agency and I'm technically not a Hospital employee? What should I do?

So I have an interview at a County Correctional Facility next week, but I currently have a sprained ankle, so my question is... would it be ok if I wore sneakers to the interview? I don't really have anthing else besides high heals, and they will def kill my ankle if I wore that nect week, any suggestions on the appropriate shoes I can wear?

Thanks for the response so far. I was explained that the clinic I will be working at is a general peds clinic that sees well child checkups as well as sick visits. They said that it is a clinic where the medical students and PA students go for their rotation along with certified physicians, so their used to a lot of teaching, which sounds like a good learning environment...i hope. Oh, and it is not a specialty clinic.

Hey there all! I just recently received a job offer at a Peds outpatient clinic affiliated with a major children's hospital I'm soooo excited and nervous!!! I am a relatively new nurse and have been doing case management for the past 6 months, so I havnt done any hands on nursing stuff for awhile! I wanted to know if anyone here has ever worked in a peds clinic? what is an RN's role at a peds clinic? what are some of the things I can better prepare myself for the position? Any tips on ivs and blood draws on children? Thanks for all your help!!

She is a type 2. So even if she has routine doses of 70/30 ordered for breakfast and dinner, if her blood sugar is too low prior to administration of insulin, then u would hold the dose and have her eat. Now do you just skip that routine dose all together for that meal and move on?

I currently work in public health, and do a lot of teaching. Well I have been trying to teach a pt of mine regarding diabetes, and need some help. I will explain what this pt currently is prescribed. Pt is diagnosed with Type 2, and has Humulin 70/30 ordered as routine insulin for breakfast and dinner time. And for lunch and bedtime, the pt has a sliding scale ordered. Well my question is, does the pt only need to check sugars before lunch and bedtime for the sliding scale, or every time before she's about to eat? I asked two nurses this, and they both gave me the opposite answers. Also, this patient constantly getting these medications confused, and does not seem to remember how to use a sliding scale, I've gone over it several times with her, she understands it every time I explain it, but then she forgets it the week after. What can I do to make my teaching more effective? Thanks ahead for the help.

I just recently got a job in case management for special needs kids in an office setting, and will start next week!!! so I have limited information to tell you right now, but from what my nurse supervisor told me, since the area I will be working in is special needs kids IN foster care, the case loads will be slightly less due to the complexity of it, and each nurse gets about 20-25 cases. We also have to take turns being on call, and make home visits every 3 months on each kid, and sometimes we will have to go to the hospitals for admissions. I can't wait to start and leave my current job in psych!!

I was sooo shocked at how little State jobs pay, and contemplating whether I should take it or not. It pays less than my current job, but I think I will like this job better. Can anyone recommend a good massage therapy school in Orlando, Fl?

The facility Im working at is stand alone and not part of a Hospital. It is the main mental health facility in this county and surrounding counties, and we are known to get the most severe cases that the Hospitals cant handle. We also get a lot of transfers from other hospitals. The unit Im working at is for people with no insurance (so mainly homeless people), and also every other kind of people you can imagine. We often have to transfer patients out to hospitals due to chest pains/ heart attacks, so a lot of admissions and discharges.

The psych unit Im working in right now is a 30 bed adult inpatient floor. And at night, the staff consists of only 1 RN "who is also charge" and 2 techs, thats it. Well my question is, when there is an admission, the only RN leaves the unit to go do health screens on the new patient coming in. While the admissions room is close to the unit, during that whole time period, the 30 bed unit is left with only 2 techs supervising...which doesn't sound very safe to me at all, and I cant help but wonder if thats legal at all??? Do psych facilities have different regulations and rules than big hospitals? what if one of the patiens were coding or seizing? FYI the techs they hire here are not required to be CNA licensed and I dont think their required to have a CPR licensce either

Im a relatively new grad of 9 months, and already on my second nursing job! I started in NICU after graduation, and now Im working in adult psych! I know...totally different areas! But I still dont think Ive found my "niche" yet...and trying not to feel discouraged. Just wondering what areas and how many areas you guys have worked in before finding your "niche"?

I used to work nights in the ICU and there was still lots to do and ALOT of hands on with the patients so I guess I thought that would go for psych as well...but the slow pace is nice for a change!

I just started working in Psych as well, new grad RN of 8 months. I am Charge RN on the floor, I work nights, and am the only nurse on shift for 30 patients so yeah its doable, and not too bad!
