  1. Those are excellent ideas. We sometimes do karaoke...surprising which people enjoy singing, Bingo is fun, especially if you have any budget to buy small prizes, popcorn and a movie usually works too. Good luck
  2. 10 people won't be "watching"you, they will be counting on you to go in quick and confidently. Safety is priority for you and the other staff involved. You will need practice, but hopefully you will be able to watch a more experienced RN give a few IMs before you're on your own. at our hospital, Ativan and Haldol are the only drugs we mix. Everything else goes in separate injections. Hope that helps.
  3. I am a new grad here and was hired in April. Our facility (Havenwyck Psychiatric Hospital) seems to always be looking for midnight nurses. A couple from my class were hired at Detroit Receiving, with a few taking LTC positions. Many were hired into their clinical locations. Six people immediately left the state for work elsewhere. I also heard that the VA hospital would take new grads, but the hiring process could take 5-6 months. Good luck.
  4. I am 56 and graduated in May. I don't think you will find age to be a major problem. Good luck!
  5. I am currently in the Oakland U accel program. For the most part have been very satisfied, but you have to remain flexible. They don 't know the clinical assignments ahead of time. Sometimes they even get changed within days of starting, if an instructor quits. And parking is an issue everywhere. Good luck!
  6. A lot of these programs are extended. Keep checking and don't give up. THis was federal money, so the next administration may offer something different that will apply to you by the time you actually need it.
  7. I don't think you can carry the money over. You have to provide your tuition bill from the college. I am attending OU and my voucher was for the exact amount, which happens to be almost 5K ($4895). The balance was another voucher to be used at the bookstore-for books only. And again, I had to provide the book list for the courses. Hope that helps. Good luck.
  8. I received my $5000 voucher about 4 weeks after I applied.
