  1. I moved from Dallas to the Tri-Cities which includes Kingsport 3 years ago. Love it here. I will admit that it seems like more people are moving here and traffic is expanding. Wages are lower but so are rents. The sales tax will probably shock you. For non food items it is about 9.5% and for food items about 6.5%. I used to work at Holston Valley and commuted from first Piney Flats then Gray area. Not too bad a commute. Can't advise as to schools but any of the tri cities which includes also Johnson City and Bristol wouldn't be too bad. Hope this helps and welcome.
  2. The job was not exactly what I was told that it was. Had I known exactly what it was like I would not have accepted. To be fair many hospitals in general misrepresent a position. The only way to avoid this is to ask specific questions and if possible speak to nurses who work there.
  3. I had a very short employment there. They hire a lot of new grads probably to keep salaries low. The people there are very nice but the job I got was misrepresented hence the short employment. There are only 2 major health systems in that area meaning you work for one or the other or none. Loved the area. Hope this helps.
  4. I have to update my reply with an addendum. After working at SPG a few weeks post my reply I will still say that the co-workers are very nice but promises made were not kept. As a result I would not recommend St. Pete General. As a matter of course I no longer work there.
  5. I currently work at St. Petersburg General Hospital and cannot say enough about the people I work with. They are some of the nicest that I have met in my career. I work same day surgery. Fast paced and when help is needed it is readily offered. You may want to check them out!
  6. Yes I moved here a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE the area. The people in the town are very nice. I just completed my first week at the hospital. Haven't started working on the unit yet but have met some of the staff. Can't give an opinion on the hospital as it is too early.
  7. I can address this on a minor note since I am moving from Texas to Tennessee. I went through getting all the papers including fingerprint cards to get my fingerprints to them. Now unlike NY Texas is a compact state the same as Tennessee so I was told that I had to have a Tennessee address and driver's license then they would issue me an RN license. The rationale is being from a compact state I can work for 30 days on my Texas license. I did not apply for a temp license because I could work for a short time with my Texas license. All that being said if I were you I would get a temporary permit then relocate and get the above requirements and at that time apply for the permanent license. I hope this helps.
  8. Thank you so much for the information. I am getting excited about moving to JC. I wanted to move years ago but did not have a position. It's all go now.
  9. How do Johnson City and Kingsport compare? Thanks!
  10. Thank you for the information. Is Wellmont a better facilty in your opinion?
  11. It is a position in the chest pain center which I understand is 12 beds and is more or less a holding area to determine whether or not to admit. I have not been to the area but I am originally from upstate NY and I love the mountains and forests but not the harsh winters. It seems that the hospital has a lot of vacancies. The pay is a major drop from here BUT the cost of living is lower except the state sales tax which is higher. I am just trying to find out if there is a major turnover there especially that unit or it is just attrition. Thanks!
  12. I have been offered a position at Johnson City Medical Center and would like to get some feedback from nurses who work there or know something about this facility. I am planning on leaving Dallas and Group One and it seems like Johnson City is a very nice place. Thank you in advance.
  13. I am glad that you like it there. I am sure that there are nice people working there but I stand by my review. I have been a nurse for 26 years mostly in ER. I have since gotten a position in another hospital that is a way nicer facility than Methodist. I was unemployed for a month and was fortunate to get a position in that short a time. I moved over 1200 miles for the job at Methodist and then ended up being unemployed. I would not recommend Methodist to anyone.
  14. I went to an interview today and indeed was told of a concierge service at this one hospital in Ft Worth so I guess at least at this one hospital it is true.
  15. I have been unemployed for the past 2 weeks. I have had 1 face to face interview and 1 telephone interview with hospital in the DFW area despite applying for many positions at all the hospitals except 1. I would say that the hospitals may have "selective" desperation. BTW I am from Upstate NY originally and when you get the heat in the summer you may wish you had the cold.
  16. Loricatus My specialty is non-inv cardiology and I have applied to all of the hospitals in the area. I am now starting to look outside Texas. BTW I do not have the ability to respond to private messages so I am sending this. Thanks for your support
  17. I have tried not only Presby Dallas but Plano and most of the hospitals in Dallas. I haven't tried the Vet yet. I did not get a position I applied for at Plano Dallas and I am waiting on UT SW. I am starting to really look outside Texas. I can't wait too long and it appears that a lot of the hospitals are taking their time with applications.
  18. I am the nurse that The Commuter gave you a link to. I would definitely NOT recommend Methodist Hospital Dallas. I was told after 3 days that I was not right for the job. 3 days! Now usually I wouldn't say that about the whole hospital because of one dept. but I did leave a message for the HR rep to call me and no one called. At present I am unemployed and may very well have to leave the area. I have been here only about 1 month. Just be careful!
  19. Not sure. I have some interviews lined up in the area and I hope they pan out but if not then I will have to expand my horizons. All I can say is lesson learned.
  20. Thanks for the encouragement. I am very optimistic. Next time I won't move 1100 miles for more money.
  21. No. The dept was IR. They use a lot of nurses from other floors prn. In fact I think I saw more prn nurses working there than regular staff.
  22. Actually after only 3 days I was told that I was not right for the position. Things more or less descended from there. I guess almost 26 years of nursing wasn't good enough.
  23. You are definitely right. I just had an interview with an agency and asked if they knew about Group One and they so did. In detail they explained what they were about. I will say that it appears that Methodist and I are parting on good terms so who knows. Got those fingers crossed. I am upfront with anyplace I interview so they will not be surprised just in case.:icon_roll
  24. What is the "consumer reporting" data base? I have never heard of it in any other state. Thanks
  25. I appreciate what you are saying, however, I don't think I am going to have any choice on the matter. It is either resign or be let go.
