New RN terminated, now applying VA
I got terminated from 1st RN job during probation. I didn't make major error nor harmed my patient. I had problems with my last preceptor who bullied me. She complained that I had poor performance and got me fired. I believe I was just like any other new grad. I asked to be trained by someone else but wasn't granted. She was fairly new herself and didn't qualify to precept per hospital guideline. I filed a complaint about wrongful termination and her unprofessional behaviors to the hospital. It was my dream job, I bought a car, signed an apartment lease and relocated away from family and friends. I loved the job.. was never late, worked with many amazing people. Now I got an interview with the VA hospital. They'll contact my managers, right? I'm sure that they'll bad mouth me because they are angry about me filing a complaint. How will this impact VA's hiring decision? I honestly don't know how to explain this..Please help!

Hired after Fired
Has anyone found a new job after being fired? Has anyone listed your previous job where you got fired? What did you tell your new employer and what did they respond?

got fired/terminated
Nope, it was not done. Also there was a remediation form that my boss did not do. She just fired me without offering any remediation

got fired/terminated
I was working as a new grad RN and had a wonderful experience at a magnet hospital. However after being assigned to a new preceptor everything changed. She was very moody and changes her mind very often. I watched her picking up fights with other nurses. She has a very positive relationship with the management. Another new RN from my cohort who trained under her quit the job. I was, fired/terminated with less than 6 months of experience without any warning. She disliked me and complained to my boss in a daily basis. I was a new vulnerable nurse who's concerns and issues were not taken seriously nor heard. The firing process was unprofessional and unfair. Now, I'm extremely worried about my future. Because many job application would ask if I have ever been fired before. What should I do? Can anyone share their experience?

Has anyone ever worked for VA hospital?
How is the probationary period at the VA? How easy is it to get fired? I have some bad experience as a new grad. It was extremely rewarding to care for patients and learning was great until I was assigned to a new preceptor who didn't like me. Any information is helpful. Thank you so much

it says that I was not doing well with the training and does not progress as expected. Therefore, I will not be finishing the training program on time.

VA jobs
Hello everyone, I have an experience being terminated during the probationary period. My working experience has been extremely positive until I was assigned to a new preceptor who was moody and changes her mind often. She was angry all the time and picking up fights with other nurses. Her bad attitude towards me let me believe that she did not like me. Her previous preceptee quit her job and I was terminated because of her negative evaluations. I would love to apply for a VA position. Does mentioning about the termination hurt my chance of getting hired?

Old nurses eating young
My preceptor hated me and kept being mean to me. She has also been complaining to my boss on a daily basis to get me in trouble. How do young nurses deal with this? I got fired because of her. I never made any critical errors but she has made up stories about me.

4 months of OR experience?
I recently got terminated because of bad evaluations from a preceptor who has been mean to me. I have heard that OR nursing is very short and easy to find a job. Will I be able to find another OR job with 4 months of training? How can I explain why I was let go? I can do both circulating and scrubbing. I do not have any other nursing experience.

resign before orientation starts??
Hi, everyone. I have to resign a new grad position right before the orientation. My family is too worried that the area has high crime rate and I will be living all by myself far away from anyone I know. I have another job offer in a very safe nice neighborhood, so my family wants me to take this offer instead. I also like their program as well. How do I do this?? I am so scared that the unit manager will complain to my nursing school or stop hire nursing students from my school. I have heard of stories like that. I'm also concerned that I might be working with those people somewhere.. Please help me. I'm not sure how to do this right.

Turn down UC hospital - New Grad RN
I got a job offer at a UC hospital and already signed/done drug test. I moved about 400 miles away from the famlly and will be living alone. My family came very against me working there at the last minute realizing the city and the surrounding area being very unsafe (very high crime rate), tons of homeless and drug users. I have to turn it down because I cannot let my family worry about my safety for the next 2 years. I have another job offer at a very safe neighborhood. This is the biggest reason why my family wants me to switch jobs. Will I be put into "do not rehire list" for entire UC heath system?? My job has not started and I have not attended any orientation yet. Please help. I do not mean to be so inconsiderate but I really cannot endanger my own life nor cause anymore family conflicts.

VA Palo Alto or UC Davis for a New grad?
Hello all, I got 2 job offers from UC Davis and VA palo alto. For UCD I was offered a ICU position and VA an outpatient clinic. I personally prefer the ICU instead of an outpatient clinic because I think ICU is better for career advancement. However, Palo Alto is a dream location where I can have a happy social life. I'm thinking about taking the VA. How easy is it to transfer to another unit within the VA? Also which one would look better on my resume, UCD or the VA? Eventually I would love to get into the OR. Thank you!!

UC Davis New Grad
I was interviewed by UC Davis and the next day HR sent me an email requesting 5 references. What does this mean? I have not received any offer yet. Someone from UC San Diego mentioned for her the HR told her that she is the top 3 candidate. But she also said each unit is different. Does any got this email and was not hired? Any information is helpful. Thank you so much!

Should I go for UCLA or stick to my local Cal State U?
Btw, I forgot to say. I couldn't worry about the tuition. Maybe just the living spends. They have a policy called blue and gold. If your income or parents? is under 80K, your tuition is covered by UC school. Chemistry portion of the requirement isn't that bad. It's a pre-med classes as well so you can go that tract if you change your mind in the future. Get you prepared very well!

Should I go for UCLA or stick to my local Cal State U?
1) Do you feel the cost was worth it? As in do you feel you would be a better position financially and education, personal life and family wise if you had chosen, if given the option, to stay near home? 2) Do you feel as tho school prestige plays a part in both obtaining interviews and/or obtaining those jobs post graduation? I haven't graduate from there but I'm starting their program this fall. I was in a local ADN program but decided to leave to go to UCLA's. To me, UCLA is worth the spends. The local CC program was a complete mess. It was not only they didn't care about their students but the disorganized program shot me away. Many times, I wasn't sure what I learned from their professors were correct. I'm not sure if its because they were lack of education or being away from the bed side for too long. But I can tell you the professors in UCLA is way more qualified. All of them has Ph.D and due to the name of school, they are very proud and confident. I'm a commuter who takes 1.5 hr bus ride to the campus everyday.. and it's worth it. I do believe the name of school matters to some point. I heard 24/25 UCLA new graduate nurses who applied to Ronald Reagan (top 5 US hospital) was hired from the crowed. And personally I would take UCLA graduate instead of Cal State, CC graduate RN. The quality in education isn't the same so is your college life. UCLA is a better school to be in! good luck!!
