We use hampers with signs saying "soiled linen" here that you can roll around. The hamper is usually in the hall between two rooms, or in the dirty core. What i see nurses, cnas and techs do is just strip the bed and go slam dunk it into one of these hampers in the hall, (or bring the hamper with you). Or just put them in a trash bag, but don't throw it away, then find where they store dirty linen.

The smell of vomit is even hard for me to withstand. But it seems to be the only thing i ever clean up in the er besides pee. For me i just dont let my mind make it out to be more than it is. Try wearing a mask? It helps alot. If i have to clean up vomit off the floor, toilet or the wall, i bring a towel and bags. If on the floor i just cover the mess with the towel or multiple towels. (im not on hands and knees wiping it up). Put shoe covers on and sorta wipe it all up with my feet. Then mop, in your case call the housekeeper. If for some reason the patient is vomiting while i'm in the room then i gtfo. I havent figured out a way to not feel really sick or not lose it myself when i actually witness it first hand. Just the sound gets me to. BRUUUGUGGGHHHHHH COUGH COUGH!!!!11

Where i live south cali (at least we are in the same state!), there are numerous ways to get your rn. My plan is Janitor to cna, study, work as a cna as i wait, keep studying, get into the lvn program, work as lvn probably in a ltc or snf, keep studying, then lvn to rn program. I will feel more comfortable being a rn after being a cna and lvn. I refuse to be a lousy rn. Im taking a rop course which is only 125 dollars for the cna license, the lvn program requires you to be a cna and it only cost 2500!!!!!!11. I think this is the no-fail way because as you work your way up the ranks you get experience and hopefully by the time your a rn you wont be making some of the noob mistakes, and learn some stress mangement. Yeah 35000 seems like a lot, but here in cali at least where i live you start off making 32 a hour. You'll cover that in your first two or three years of nursing and help build your credit. Plus i made it my goal that "money aint no thang," the only thing that can stop me from being a nurse is well...ME! Also make sure those private school are accredited for something. My rop couses gives me 1 year accrediatioin. Yes this the slower route but i feel its safer, you get the see what its really like in the work place, and mainly to find if this is for you.

I'd rather take a spanking any day. About what 4 minutes of pain then back to play. Compared to a week of grounding. Plus you know the louder you scream the softer they hit ya... Avid recipient of the belt. But there was no spanking I did not deserve.

Actually i guess some rules got switched around, now we have to strip the bed in exchange the nurses has to put the gown and towels in the bathroom... (who the heck agreed to that ) Now it’s even more essential that we consult a nurse, tech, cna or someone before we go chargin in cleaning rags a blazing!

El janitor might have some answers. Where i work in san diego there are plenty of Pilipino nurses, i cant walk down the hallway without catching some Tagalog. Also this is a magnet hospital but we are rather small. Like 12 bed icu, 20 bed less er, no trauma center, no wound care. But don’t let the smallness fool you. I was working the graveyard last night and i got called to come terminal clean a room in the E.R. Non-stat, so I cruise down clean the room (lots of hair on the ground) and as I'm walking out tossing some trash the nurse sees me and says "make sure you wear booties and a cap that patient had lice." Another time I was working the morning shift down in the snf attached to our hospital. A patient passed and the nurse wanted the room cleaned stat. So I go over to the room, it's a mess the bed not even stripped (big no-no for us housekeepers), so i clean the room the best I could fast without compromising proper sanitation. I finish in about 20 minutes and I'm walking back to grab some trash bags, the lvn sees me and ask me if I finished the room yet. I respond with a thumbs up, she then says "oh did you gown up? that patient has scabies." Both times had no contact precaution sign on the door. I have about 5 more months of housekeeping left until I become a C.N.A. I would like to be able live and be healthy for that time. My question is whose responsibility is it? I say the nurses because I'm not there, I have no idea which nurse has which room, there is no possible way for me to figure out what a patient has and if it something I should be concerned about.

I'm going to be a cna too hopefully at a hospital or ltc just wherever highers me. So many people get hung up on the "cleaning" aspect of nursing. There is so much more to nursing than just cleaning. If things get to hairy you could call housekeeping . Out of all the bodily fluids i have the hardest time with vomit. Natural gag reflex.

I can probably say that I'm a professional at cleaning poop, pee,vomit, blood, iodine, icky green stuff what have you. Had a patient use the bed pan stool thingy next to the bed with no basin in it resulting in some nice coils of.... on the floor. Yeah poop smells, honestly nothing has topped what i squeezed out of my body. It is natural for you feel like vomiting when you see, hear or smell it. Sorta like watching some one yawn then yawning yourself. TBH you do wipe your own orifice (i hope) without gloves!, how hard could it be wiping someone else with gloves and with something better than tp.

Hehe many my friends at work think its because they want to be like doctors. I said no if they want to be doctors then they would. I did notice that the scrubs at my hospital only have like 2 pockets and the breast pocket just dumps everything on the floor when you bend over. We dont wear scrubs but if i did i could fool people to thinking im not a janitor!

I'm not a nurse, yet. I do work at a hospital as my name implies as a janitor (housekeeper, environmental services). I was wondering if any of you nurses wear a "lab coat," (that look like doctors or close) and if your a nursing student do you plan on wearing one one day. If you do have a lab coat what does it say like obgyn msn cen bsn list goes on. I swear the charge nurse in med surg has a sentence after her name.
