  1. When i worked in LTC it was 8 hour shifts and ,we had callins all the time and ot was always an issue. I think 12 hr would be good for that but the 8 hr is good for the pts when they get to see a familar face almost everyday
  2. I was reading everyones post and am shocked to see how many people still use RESTRAINTS!!! I believe they just make the situation worse. I work in a rehab with TBI (traumatic brain injuries) spinal cords, strokes, ortho. We have NO restraints. Its a 89 bed facility and we average about 5 falls a month at the most. We use a sign outside the door that says LAMP(look at me please), we use low beds, floor mats, some rooms are monitored by cameras, call light in reach, fall risk assessment done every week, the pt.s use non skid socks, we have cradel beds. Im not trying to say what works best but i notice when i worked at the trauma center and they restrained pts it just made them madder. What ever happened to pts rights????
  3. And half the time these new RNs have no clue how to do these proceedures. I think every RN should have to be a LPN first and have a certian amount of experiance. Now i also have to mention that there are also a lot of great RNs out there. Phasing out LPNs is the stupidest idea they have yet. Sometimes were are the backbone of the facility and the RNs take credit for things we do.
  4. I live in oklahoma and just recently graduated from a 18month course everything was paid for including nclex and they set it all up for us and i paid $20,000 but my friend just graduated from the same amount of class where nothing was paid for and it cost her 2,000. I think we got screwed!!! I wish i had looked around more than what i did.
