Is magnet status hospitals shutting out all LVNs
As I said before, I am a 2 year LPN. I am studying thru Excelsor the LPN/RN bridge. Still in my LTC I do IVPG, infusions, monitor blood . I have talked an RN thru changing a PICC line drsg because Ira not in my SOP to chg it, even tho she wanted me to. I know my SOP by my Standards if Practice Act and follow it for my protection. I do resent that my skills have no value to hospital administrators. I have no problem being an LPN but I do want more options. I do love nursing,

Is magnet status hospitals shutting out all LVNs
I am a 2 year LPN in Ok. I networked during my clinicals, leadership, and preceptorship. I was hired at an LTC and have been there full-time and PRN. In between I tested home health, gaining experience and skills. I took phlebotomy course for the lab and IV skills. It has pd off allowing me to care for higher acuity pts. Now I work agency and work skilled, LTC, assisted living, and a few hospital jobs. I work full time and love the variety. I treat each assignment as a job interview and the result is repeat assignments and valuable references. LTC is hard, but the experience is invaluable. LTC definitely pays better than clinics, and the experience I have gained let's me work in lot of different areas. My advice is go to a skilled LTC and learn everything you can. Then you will start having choices.

NOT going to the pinning ceremony
I have previous degree, and my LPN is truly the proudest I have ever been. To not be pinned and to not have the lantern to me mocks the nursing profession. It was one of my best experiences, and I loved it!

Practice question that doesn't seem right.
I am a respiratory therapist and a nurse. I had issues with this question because Venturi masks are not widely used in practice and not readily available. If the choice was O2 via nasal cannula, that would be number 1 choice because the pt was in respiratory distress with an "appeared" asthma attack. Obviously the rescue drug albuterol would be administered. I did go with O2 with Venturi thinking mode Nclex Regionsl Hospital then rescue drug while assessing. Two things were off-putting; a Venturi and the word appears.

How many hours a night do you spend studying?
10 hours a night???? I dont have that many hours in a day! I am in school (self-paced) 20-25 hours a week, with 2-3 clinical days included. I spend on the average, 3 hours a night studying, so it becomes 25 hrs in school, 20 hours studying, working 36 hours a week, and I have a family. I obviously have no life, but I have an A ave overall, and am not insane yet. I have clinical homework, drug cards, modules, ATI, reading, careplans...it goes on and on. I love the program, am constantly amazed at what we are learning, and plan to be done by August. It is doable, but not without a lot of changes in your normal schedule. I am learning a clean house is a dream, laundry in stacks is ok, and my crock pot is my new best friend. Anyone out there agree?

Excelsior Grads - Where are they now?
I am a registered respiratory therapist, and have been for 30 + years. I am currently in an LPN/LVN self paced program looking at grad in Aug 2010. I am looking at bridge programs for RN. I have all my prerequ's out of the way. How long would the EC program take, and is it worth it cost wise?

New LPN students to start soon !! Come share your experiences :)
It is going well, just be prepared for no life, lol. Lots of work , I repeat, lots of work! I work 45 hrs a week and go to school. It can be done, but it can be overwhelming at times. Take time out when you need to. I do enjoy the program.

Central Tech/CNA Training
That must be why a certain person resigned and why someone else has taken over. Do you think it will improve? Why did all of this happen? I am in the Drumright program at presetn and so far am happy with it. It is self-paced and the pass rate is very high.

Central Tech/CNA Training
I attended that program last November, and clinicals are done at a local nursing home during the hrs you attend class. It was a great program and now I am in the LPN program also with Central Tech but in Drumright.

Working and School how do you manage?!
I work 36 hrs S-M, go to school T-F 24-32 hrs a week. That is life. I get a day off during Fall break. I study a lot, but still take time for things I love and family, as well as normal household stuff. It is hard, it can be done, and I take vitamins and a weekly B-12 shot. It helps me, and you just do what you have to do. Good luck to you.
