No, nursing is not supposed to be sad. I think a lot of it has to do with one not knowing what to expect until they are in the situation. I think when we see others sick, suffering, or even dying, that we can't help but relate the patients to our own lives. When I started my first year nursing clinicals at the nursing home, I couldn't help but come home and cry. I didn't know I would cry so much for not even knowing these patients, and ask myself how do these nurses and staff deal with the sick and dying everyday. As I got more exposure, I realized that everyone at some point learn to deal with it themselves. We all learn to put up a shield and just not let it get to us. Though it can be hard as you get to know these patients better, it's tough but for me, I remind myself that I'm there to help them get better and there are happy endings in nursing. :redpinkhe

I don't understand why you would be so appalled by it. It's very natural to celebrate one's life on this earth. To you it might have showed too much, but to the other person, it was perfectly normal.

I thought the same thing when I was taking a&p as well, but boy was i wrong!!! I am in nursing school now and a&p has been really helpful in understanding how drugs/chemicals work in our body. Let me give you an example. In patients with high blood pressure, the body is retaining the sodium and therefore causing the rise in blood pressure. The purpose of BP meds are to get rid of the sodium, but as we all learned the sodium and potassium pathways in cell membranes in a&p, since the potassium binds to the sodium in which if patients get rid of the sodium they are getting rid of potassium as well. So that is why when patients are on certain medications such as lasix, they are guaranteed to be on potassium tablets as well because of the sodium and potassium pathways. So learn your a&p you will use it alll through your career!

$65 sounds like the lab fee associated with those classes and yes payment is due at the time of registration. Or you can set up payment plans, those are always convenient. They have a few options you can choose from, but usually when it gets around this time (right before classes start), the only option that's available would be pay 30%or 50%(somewhere in that ballpark, can't remember which) then they take another payment out a couple months from now. Those I had to go in to set up, not sure how you will do that online. I have taken a few courses online thru ccc and just like any other courses you will need to stay on top of things. You will become very familiar with a site called blackboard. There you will "meet" all your classmates, have discussions, exams, and all your assignments/notes will be posted as well. You will need to download everything and make sure you understand everything. All assignments' due dates will be clearly posted. Get a quick start on everything cus you never know when you might get stuck. There are times where you will have to work in groups, setting up a time where everyone can "meet" can be a headache. To engage in conversations, the professor might have discussion times where everyone must meet online at a certain time. I can get difficult since EVERYTHING is online, but most professors are pretty good at responding emails within 24 hours. Best recommendation i can give you is to STAY ON TOP OF YOUR ASSIGNMENTS. they are very easy to fall behind. Chem and A&P are complex courses even for classroom setting and to do everything on your own, it can become a nightmare. Not trying to scare you, but just trying to get you prepared mentally hehe.. It's doable but it needs a lot of patience and dedication.

Hi! I would wait a couple few more weeks. Evaluating transcripts is complicated and it may take up to 6 weeks at some schools. My previous college needed it AT LEAST 8 weeks in advance not to mention now that school is starting back up again. I would wait a few more weeks if you don't hear anything send them a message replying with the old message about the transcript. If that doesn't work, call them. Go in and see them if you have to. Do whatever you can, it's your future.

Every school is different, but for me, it was accepted or rejection. I needed to get above national average on all subjects. They basically want to assess how ready you are for nursing school. They don't want to admit someone that won't be able to keep up.

This is a very good question! I am starting LPN school in 2 weeks, but my goal is to keep going until I reach MSN. Though the topic is interesting, but I think if your goal is to become RN, then it shouldn't really matter since you're planning on bridging over to RN. Maybe I'm not understanding your post correctly but you're not wasting your time doing LPN since for your RN, it'll just be more courses added on, it's not like starting over from scratch.

I can't say it's the best since it's the only book I used, but it gets the job done. I studied a month before my test and just went over the subjects that I'm weak in. I scored in high 80's to mid 90's on all subjects. Good luck to you!

i think it all depends since they are very different. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I personally prefer calc over a&p but that's just me since I'm more math oriented. A&P is more memorization involved, no calculations what so ever. So to compare 1 to the other is not fair since they are non related. I guess my advice is to try your best in all that you do. Soon enough it'll be over in no time!

Hi there! DON'T BUY THOSE! The materials you get from those you purchase can be found for free that are uploaded by college professors themselves for their students. My favorite one can be found here, http://www.cefns.nau.edu/~klh288/audiovisuallectures.html she teaches just about all the biology needed for nursing and she's so good at explaining. I love listening/watching her videos. If you look around she also have a section where you coan download her podcasts and upload those onto your daughters ipod. I can't say enough how great she is!! For flashcards, I use http://www.flashcardexchange.com/ where students themselves made flashcards for their biology classes. THey do the work and i just use them to study the only downfall is that you have to pay for membership in order to print them otherwise it's free to use Hope this helps, have fun studying!

thanks n congrats on gettin in! that clears up a lot of things.. i was going to apply for spring semester but didn't find out about the school til a week before the nov15 deadline. so im going to wait and apply for summer semester instead. the sooner i take the a2 the better right? since part of my admission depends on the scores. im trying to hurry before this school becomes more popular and raise all the requirements. are there any changes to the admissions requirements that you know of considering i just found out about this school a couple wks ago. when you made an appointment with them, did the counselor give you hints on your chances of getting in based off your transcripts? I think my gpa is right around the 2.75 border line. do you think having healthcare experience and an associate degree help me? hi there. im new here, but when did you apply for march admission? march as in for summer 09 admissions correct? i thought march admission is not open yet? When does early admission end do you know? Also, do you have to take the A2 right after you apply or can you take it on your own tme when you are ready? Im thinking since part of admissions is based off of the A2 scores, so right away correct? i'm thinking of making an appt and talking to teh counselors to see how i do compared with others competng for admissions. would taht be a good idea u think?
