  1. Just as the above poster mentioned, I also love anesthesia and my job. I'm a CRNA and love what I do. I receive great satisfaction out of what I do. Yes, we work with MD anesthesiologists but they are not our "bosses". What sold me on CRNA was coming out with 80k of debt vs 300k+ in debt (my brother is a physician and owes this much, almost at 10 interest). I enjoy great pay, job satisfaction and respect in what I do. And yes I am "keeping it real"
  2. I have an ADN. Live in Los Angeles. A lot of my friends from my graduating class (june 2010) have already found jobs. It seeems like this last batch of grads overall have been finding jobs...
  3. I know the job market is tough out there, but how hard is it for able bodied male nurses to land a job? I graduated from nursing school in June and passed my nclex-rn last month. I only applied to a few local hospitals and already have had two job offers. I accepted one offer and will be starting the new grad program at the start of next month. My GPA is nothing to brag about and I do not have any additional certifications. I handed my application in person and just crossed my fingers. Maybe its just because I interviewed well, but I have a vague feeling that it may be due to the fact that I am male. In all regards, just wanted share my experience and wanted to see other murse input. Thanks
  4. I do not care what anyone says, but the PVT works!!! took the nclex on july 1st, got the good pop up and just found out that I am officially an RN in the state of california.
  5. took my nclex RN on the 1st and got the good pop up with the PVT. The comp shut off at 75 q's. I just don't know though. I am still skeptical about it and need official confirmation from the BRN. Hopefully this good pop means I passed because I am going crazy waiting.
  6. YAY!! Just got a call from the nursing office today. I got accepted to the RN/BSN program. Who else got in?
  7. Can someone please PM a copy of the list?! Thank you
  8. ahhhh!!! I am going to take my exam soon. It all seems to be happening so fast. oh yeah and congrats Aaron!
  9. when i saw the title i thought MA like masters but then I realized. lol yeah this happens a lot, but I just try to take everything in stride and not let little things like that get to me. correct them if you can.
  10. slooow it down. and just take your time. :)
  11. man.. I need my BSN. hahaha
  12. I am actually getting my ADN, but I have plans for advancing my degree to the masters level. So the BSN sounds pretty nice. I would actually feel a little more fulfilled by getting a bachelors degree since I don't have one already.
  13. Well I remember this one time I was talking about a staff nurse on my floor. It wasn't anything nice btw. Turns out she was right behind me during the whole thing.
  14. 5 errors... yup
  15. haha thanks a lot. yeah. we don't get much of these in mississippi, but heck some entertainment.
  16. Well, my pt today had colorectal cancer which had metastasized to essentially every major organ. Death was inevitable... but this isn't why I am starting this thread... In my ward the standing nurse and student need to wrap up the pt to be sent down to the coroner. Aside from being shocked from the pt dying I had to also suffer wrapping him up. While wrapping the pt up something really freaky and interesting happened. While I was crossing his arms the dead pt pushed my hands off him and turned his head. I literally jumped out of my scrubs as well as the other staff nurse. No, this wasn't those regular reflex things, but more like a " get your hands off me" kind of thing. Naturally, I was a little freaked out and grossed out by the fact that I had to remove his colostomy bag, as well as his JP... After my staff nurse and I composed ourselves we continued wrapping the pt. and guess what happens.. the freaken dead pt flips his whole arm out of the bag as we were closing it. And yes... we did check for a pulse and to our surprise he was still dead. Sorry to bother you all, but I felt like venting or something.
  17. oh yeah and I forgot to add that I have a GF that I have been with for 4 years..
  18. Guys, I need your take on this. Well, I am beginning my second semester in a few days and I am caught in a dilemma. During parts of my first semester I had a few encounters with young female staff nurses flirting with me and leading me on. This stuff happened on a regular basis. Of course, I flirted back and what not, but never actually pursued anything because they had boyfriends and stuff. I cant blame them since I am ..ehem ehem good looking in my own right.. hahah One of them actually slipped me there number towards the end of the semester and I never responded. I mean we are always surrounded by women in this profession and temptation is always around the corner... I don't mind, it's kinda cool. Thing is, I don't want to get in trouble next semester and worst of all be a homewrecker. How do you guys deal with it?
  19. No, it wouldn't present a problem. I have many colleagues that attended this school and went on to receive their masters. It is a great program and I will personally vouch for this school. Most graduate/bsn programs only care about if you have your license and where you worked. Believe me. Hopefully this helps.
  20. I am getting a B and just about done. It is all about one's study habits imho. My final is tomorrow so wish me luck!
