  1. You are amazing! Thank you so much! It's so nerve wracking to be this excited and have no information lol. Orientation is soon, thank god! Best of luck with classes and thanks again!
  2. I calculated 79 points and haven't heard, either! I was accepted to Grossmont, but was waiting to hear from Palomar. I have my associates degree and medical asst points, 3.33 gpa in science (2 b's and an a) all A's and 1 B in fixed set gpa, should have all 5 bonus points and I'm also military spouse. The only thing I didn't have was the 5 extra points for recent work/ volunteer experience.
  3. I couldn't find it Found it! Haha
  4. Hi all! I'm thrilled that I was accepted for fall 2017! I was wondering if anyone has the schedule of classes for spring cohort so I can get an idea of the class order and schedule? Just trying to get an idea of how to prepare. Is there anything you wish you'd known before starting? Thanks so much!
  5. Grossmont was my top choice. I faxed my letter of intent back immediately í ½í¸‚
  6. April 10, so next rounds will go out soon! Don't lose hope!
  7. Christy said we can just add our student ID to the top of the signed letter of intent :)
  8. I got in!!! I cried lol
  9. I got in!!!!! I am so happy! I estimate that I had 79 points. I hope you hear soon!!! The timestamp on my email was 12:37 PM
  10. I hope! Grossmont is my first choice and I'll be soooo sad if I don't get in!
  11. Hi, all! I was feeling pretty optimistic until I started reading these forums and seeing how many points people have haha! I got an 88% on teas 6, 3.3 (B,B,A) on sciences, around 3.8 gpa (all A's except a B in speech years ago) on the fixed set. Have the language points (3), Associates degree and I'm a medical assistant. I have the proof of working during prereqs, but haven't worked in the medical field in the last 3 years. Losing that 5 points hurts! Lol. Hoping to be awarded all 5 life points, but even with all of that, im only calculating 79 points. Is it the end of April yet? The wait is killing me haha

  13. Hi CostalGuy. I actually didnt get in on the Jan start. They wanted me to have more recent medical experience, so I am working in a Dr's office until I can reapply. The last time I worked as a medical asst was 5 years ago. I also only got a 79 on my TEAS the first time and didnt have time to retake it ( I only had a few days of studying in and have never taken Physics or Chemistry). I am studying to retake that as well and Im hoping for a May start. The deadline to apply for that start date is March 14th, I think. I know that if I actually study for the TEAS, I can get my score up and ensure a spot. They let you apply if you get 70% or above on the test, but if you dont get at least 80%, RETAKE it. If you need info on that, you can email me directly at MistiPace at Gmail. Keep me posted on whether or not you apply! Also, what prereqs have you done? Because I was told that it was 20 months regardless of whether your prereqs were totally done or you had never taken a class. I was told if you HAD completed some, that it would just lighten your workload and, of course, would be less expensive. M
  14. I was told that they start you in clinicals the first semester, but my initial appointment was with someone else (my lady was sick) so maybe she didnt know the program had changed. I think it makes WAY more sense to let us get our feet wet for a semester first.... then throw us in! lol Mareeh, How do you like it? Do you feel that you are getting a quality education?
  15. OK U of Phoenix WILL take Kaplan/ Maric ADN Credits, so Im fine with going now. As long as I can continue to a WASC school for my BSN, Im good. :) Phew!
  16. John's right. National called me back and, though they will take the RN, they will NOT take any of the prereqs taken at Kaplan, so if you want to get your BSN with them you have to do all of that over. Still waiting to hear from Kaplan and U of Phoenix but I'll update when I know more.
  17. John, So true but my concern is having to do all of my gen ed over (what I dont have so far at least) if I decide to go BSN. Another concern is that today's MA is yesterday's BS and today's BA is yesterday's AA. Im ok with just getting my RN and working now, but what if it bites me in the butt later and continuing education becomes next to impossible because I have to repeat all this stuff? I agree with the shady sales side of all of these schools. U of Phoenix (who I also heard takes Kaplan credits... I have a call in to them.) and National do it too. Bryman did the same thing when I went for my Medical Assisting. It makes me feel like Im at a used car lot and really rubs me the wrong way on the professional side of things. Whatever.... I just want to finish and make sure Im not making a $50k mistake that will end up taking me more years in the long run. Like I said, Im not even sure Ill need to go back for my BSN... but what IF... and then its a nightmare to continue?
  18. WOAH!!! WAIT! Kaplan lead me to believe that I could get my BSN from U of Phoenix OR National after completing the ADN there. They made it sound like after going to Kaplan, I could get a BSN at national or phoenix and then, since those are WASC, that I could go on to ANY other univ. to complete my Masters. They made it sound like the ADN credits only transferred to National, Kaplan or Phoenix. Im REALLY upset right now and will be calling Kaplan, Phoenix and National to figure out options. Thank for bringing this to our attention!!!!
  19. I hear ya, John. We live and learn, right? At this point I dont even know if I will continue to BSN. Maybe, maybe not. I just want to start working. At the rate I am able to go in community college with schedule conflicts, available classes and childcare.... yeah.... Im just happy to get in there, bust my rump for 20 months and actually accomplish my goal. Im not sure I would be able to afford to go to school for the years and years it would have taken me at my current rate. I wish ya the best of luck... sounds like you and I are in a similar place in our lives. Did you say you were thining of going to Kaplan or had decided. Let me know if you apply :) (sorry.... cant remember what you had written about that) Misti
  20. Yeah! I moved to San Diego from the Los Angeles area and didnt HAVE this option. No one is FORCING anyone to pay 50G's. Believe me... I DONT have it to spend. I dont have any help paying for my education and times are tough. To me, thats even MORE reason to get working already! If i didnt have a child and wasnt 34, Id probably never consider it. Im grateful to have the option. Kaplans NCLEX rates are 88%. That tells me that, though not amazing, they will give me the tools that I need to work hard and study my butt off to pass. Once Im working, no one is going to care where I got my education because I know I will be a DAMN good nurse. I agree.. its a ton of money... but what is the price tag on YOUR time? :) I wish I had done this when I was 22.... lol
  21. They take 50. My admissions rep (aka sales person lol) said that they had 90 applicants this time. She said its usually around 100-150.
  22. I agree, John. However, when I called Mesa College, the counselor recommended National University when I voiced my concern about the 3 year wait at the local community colleges. This was without mention of Kaplan's ADN program at all. Kaplan/Maric's credits transfer to National anyway, so Im not really worried. Its worth it for me to deal with the large fee to start working so much sooner. Not ideal, but at least we have the option. A lot of places dont even HAVE that option. :)
  23. If you do a search for Maric or Kaplan in San Diego there are a bunch of threads with a lot of good information. Keep in mind that Kaplan bought out Maric (or however that happened) about 5 years ago, so you are going to want to pay closer attention to the newer posts. Kaplan will cost you close to $50k (with discounts for classes you have already finished at, say, a local community college) and will take you 20 months to complete. If you already have some of the classes, it doesnt take any time off of the 20 months, just makes your work load lighter. If youre like me, its worth it to have to pay off student loans to save the 3 yr waiting list and the time of the remaining prereqs. I am 34 and have a 4 yr old and Im not even sure if I would be able to finish if it were to take that long. I need to be working ASAP! For me, Ill take the loans :) Keep in mind that most people will qualify for grants and such and there are a TON of scholarships out there for Nursing students. They require that you are at least a CNA before starting. MA, LVN etc... you must have 6 months of some kind of medical experience. If you dont, you can take their MA or CNA (?) program and then start the ADN program. You also have to take and pass the TEAS (you can google that for more info) test with at least a 70%, but you want 80% to really have a good chance at getting in. STUDY for this. Kaplan has a great study guide called Nursing Entrance Exams and you can get it cheap on Amazon. If you have any of the prereqs done, you'll need your transcripts so that they can verify them and give you credit. You should know that, while nationally accredited, not all colleges recognize their credits. If you want to get your BSN you will have to go to National or U of Phoenix (both of whom were recommended to me by the counselor of the local community college to avoid the 3-4 yr wait list. Also, you can start working and then do classes online with National or Phoenix for your BSN and then THOSE credits will transfer to any school... so you can get your Masters anywhere should you choose to continue. They have an 88% pass rate for the NCLEX. Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know! :) Misti
  24. That is SO good to hear! Im hoping to start in Jan and was a little concerned about the Maric reputation. Kaplan must be steppin it up! *phew*
