  1. Ok, that made me tear up a little....Ok, a lot.
  2. So, since you all are already nurses my question for you is how much is too much in student loans to become an RN? I will work part time while in school but I will have to take out loans to make tuition and to make ends meet.
  3. I do mean selling it. My husband is unemployed (construction sales) and we are having problems on top of that. Everything has been on my shoulders for years which is partially why I'm looking into changing careers. I would like to downsize and just get a small apartment for the next couple of years while I'm in school. I really would like to rent out my house and do something smaller/cheaper while I'm in school but my husband refuses to leave the home unless we sell it.
  4. Has anybody put their home on the line to go to nursing school? Things haven't wrapped up quite as nicely as I had hoped and so I may not be able to make my mortgage once school starts. I'm 41 so I kind of feel like it's now or never and I think I'm willing to risk it. Anybody else put themselves in this position?
  5. Oh geez. I just had a test over this today. I wish I had some good tips but I don't. Good luck!
  6. I decided to pursue nursing after working at my current job for 19 years. I watched as all these older people would come in to apply for our job openings and I felt so bad for them because they would have years of experience doing this or that and yet they were applying for the low paying position we had open. I decided I didn't want to be in that position if any thing ever happened to my job and since we had just been bought out a huge corporation I knew there was no telling what the future would bring. I started looking into things that I could do that I could be proud of and still earn a living. I kept coming back to nursing and so I'm going to give it a try. I'm finishing my pre-reqs this semester and have been accepted into a ASN program beginning in the fall. Hopefully I can swing it!!
  7. Thanks Laura Ann. I think I'm gonna buy these online and have them shipped to me. Appreciate it!
  8. Thanks for the input everybody. It really does help me:)
  9. yeah, I tried to explain it to my son who was sooooo not interested. lol I might have to corner the dogs. lol
  10. I think that I work more on memorizing since alot of the information is new to me. I'm gonna have to work out a different way of studying. I feel like I know the stuff but the tests kick my rear. Thanks for the input everybody!!
  11. Thanks for the input! I'll probably buy some flashcards for now and then make them if I need to later.
  12. I hear that Pharmacology is super hard and that you have to cram a lot of info into a little bit of time. What I want to know is if anyone thinks it would be worth my while to buy pharmacology flash cards and study them over the summer. And...if I were to do this does anyone have a suggestion as to which flashcards would be the best?
  13. Is it just me or is Physiology so much harder than Anatomy? I've taken big 2 tests so far and haven't done too good on either one and I've studied my rear end off for both of them. I think the teacher is trying to get us to do critical thinking and I'm not doing very well at it. I've still got a B and I'm already accepted into a nursing program but ...what if I can't do critical thinking?!? Aaaaccckkkk! I'm getting a little nervous that if I can't critical think in physiology will I be able to once I get into my nursing classes? Anybody else experiencing this?
  14. The school I'm going to be going to has smaller grants like the one you are talking about peas&carrotts but not as large. That sounds pretty great! Hopefully I can find something to add to the one my school offers (or hopefully still offers).
  15. Hi everybody! I'm going to be starting nursing school in the fall and I'm looking into scholarships. Who all out there is applying for scholarships and where are you finding the best places to look for them. My school has some smaller scholarships but I'm looking to expand on that. Any great ideas would be appreciated!!
  16. Hi angeldoc. I was accepted at St Johns so maybe I will see you there. I didn't get in at Cox because I didn't have my algebra done....I didn't know that was a pre-reg. I was kindof bummed. And Gradinmo, do you not like working for Cox? I just wondered how it was there. I hear that St Johns has better/cheaper insurance than Cox but Cox has the crew thing going on. It sounds like both hospitals have good things.
  17. Hi there. I rcvd my acceptance letter the other day with a small packet of things to take care of. At the end of the month we will have orientation where we will find out more about the program. I'm so excited....and scared! I will have to quit my job of 19 years to do this. The wait is driving me crazy. lol Big changes coming around the corner! Congratulations on your acceptance :)
  18. Bach to Rock does sound cool. Interesting!
  19. Finals in Chemistry tonight!! I'm so nervous. I've been going over everything all day and I can't hardly look at it any more. I've got my fingers crossed!
  20. Another semester is almost over and I am sooooooo glad. What is everyone taking next semester? I'm going to take A&P 2 and and Life Span developement. I work full time so I only take 2 classes per semester and believe me this is taking forever!! I keep chip, chipping away though.
  21. Thank you so much!! It does help me
  22. Does anyone know of any nursing schools in or close to Huntington? I know that Marshall Univ. is there, but are there any other schools in the area? I live in another state right now and I'm testing the waters for Huntington because my sister lives there. Any info would be appreciated!!!
  23. I took nutrition over the summer and is was a breeze. I know that you said you were going to take nutrition and I think that is the smart thing.
  24. Hi there! I was really lucky because we only had to take the math and reading comprehension sections. Yeah! I don't know if you can retake since your score was just low and not a failing score. We were told we could retake it in 60 or 90 days if we failed. I would just call and ask them if they think you should retake it. Good luck!
  25. Congrats! I got the oz in a gallon wrong so ...thanks for the info. lol Good luck with nursing school.
