i couldn't agree more with you on this one. so basically....don't talk to anyone about it...lol. i only talk to my old classmates because they seem to understand. nobody else gets it and i've told them numerous times how it works...you must get into a new grad program at a hospital and there are limited positions. still...nobody seems to get it and they think you can just walk into any nursing job. one of my relatives keeps telling me i'm not trying hard enough. she created an account for me on jobs.com and posted all my info. now i'm getting a ton of junk mail from them and they won't let me cancel my account. my friend introduced me to his mom who has worked at kaiser as a pt for 30 years. when she heard i was a new grad looking for work her eyes lit up and she gave me all her info. she told me about 5 times, "make sure you put my name on the application!" so now my friend keeps telling me, "my mom is totally gonna hook you up." he doesn't understand how it works...his mom just wants a fat referral bonus. if you're a new grad you just gotta hook yourself up, even if it takes 6 months or longer. good luck to you.

I have been waiting over a month too and they still aren't hiring. I have about 5 friend s from nur sing school who got job s back in Nov. They say that the work condition s are pretty bad. Fir st off, in stead of 4 patient s, they are all receiving 5. If that wa sn't tough enough on a new nur se...on many of the unit s they elminated LVN' s and CNA' s. I gue s s it may depend on the unit, but they have 5 patient' s and are expercted to perform total patient care on all of them. I don't care who you are, it i s impo s sible to provide safe and effective care with that many pt' s when you are doing all the work. You'll probably have a little help if it' s med/ surg but it' s really doe s stink that they aren't hiring when they are sooo de sperate for nur s s at that ho spital. Texas...the only bad thing, you have to live in Texas. I have talked to a few nurse recruiters and they offer positions in Waco and Lubbock. I'm sure there are many other states that are hiring as well. I suggest that you speak with a nurse recruiter and they can find a position for you, especially if you're willing to relocate. Put your resume on careerbuilder, hotjobs, or monster and a recruiter will soon contact you. Good luck!

I sense you had a rough day/night on your unit. Maybe you should reread my post because I have no clue what you are talking about!?! How did I set myself above a nurse with more experience like yourself? You must be pretty lonely and desperate for attention to make a comment like that which is completely off topic from the initial question. Also...I know that you looked through my profile to check me out and could obviously tell from my posts that I am a new RN. I was sticking up for nurses and saying that I know some that have more knowledge than Dr's. I was not speaking about myself. Also, I have plenty of so-called "real world" experience. I am over 30 yrs old and have been in the medical field for 8 years but way to go for being so presumptuous, I hope you aren't that way with your patients! I have been a CNA, LVN, and now I am an RN. How dare you act so entitled and try to belittle me. Good for you and your experience...get a life. You cannot deny that the standards for entry into the profession have increased over the past 20 - 40 yrs and that's all I was saying. It's was a tough job then and now, but nurses are finally starting to get more respect. Get some rest hothead :angryfire.

Are you joking? They feel you've gone soft? What a stereotype! Being an RN, male or female, on a hospital floor is a tough job that requires a lot of patience, energy, tact and skill. You are the liaison between the patient and everyone else involved (the family, doctor, case manager, PT's, RT's, pharmacy, ect.). Being an RN in 2009 is much different than it was 40 years ago....or even 20 years. The standards for what a nurse needs to know have increased exponentially. I know some RN's that have more medical knowledge than Dr's and that is the honest truth. Tell your friends to get over it...and eventually, when a medical problem arrises with them or their family, they will be impressed with your medical knowledge and ability to problem solve. Everyone that I have talked to has a lot of respect for nurses, and I'm a male. Yes, that stereotype still exists but will slowly be broken. Much like women in politics and business.

One negative and sexist thing I get is the patient assumes you are a doctor and then you have to explain to them that you are a nurse. Also, many of the older patients want a female to take care of any issue concerning their perineal area, especially foley insertions on females. They are very embarrassed and rightfully so, however, we are professionals too and nonjudgemental. I'm a straight male nurse and if I was a pt I would want a compassionate and caring nurse. A lot of times females come off as more compassionate and caring....but not always! There are plenty of males more caring than some of their female counterparts. Just a sterotype I guess.

Jobs are plentiful all over the country...but not for new grad RN's. Once you have a year of experience the doors are pretty wide open. I posted my resume on Monster an I received numerous emails and phone calls every day. Too bad they didn't read my resume closer to see that I was a new grad. I would just take what you can get, even if it means relocating, and after you put your time in you can do whatever you want. That's my plan!

Hello Pinoise2, I was searching this forum for the exact same question you were asking back in November. I have an interview for the same position at the same hospital and I too am a recently licensed new grad RN. How did the interview go? Are you able to bestow and knowledge upon me related to the hospital and the hiring/interview process? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I am trying to prepare but have no clue what to expect.Thanks.

Congrats. Looks like I need to pray to St. Jude. I took my test last Tuesday and have not been issued a license. I am guessing I failed so I feel like it's a lost cause. I have given up hope and plan on studying MORE. Ugh, Maybe I'll use Suzanne's plan. I hope I get that same letter in the mail but I doubt it. Good luck in your career.

No. Looks like we both need to brush up and try again. Pretty much everyone I know found out in 3 days but you never know, maybe our names will turn up this week. I've worried and stressed enough and it's time to move on. I've accepted that I failed. We both must have done really horrible to fail at 75. Maybe we just need to work on a particular section cause I really didn't think I did that bad all around. Guess I'll just have to wait for the letter in the mail to see. Good luck to you.

Suzanne, you are right. I am sorry for creating a similar thread. Although accusing me of spamming is quite harsh. Maybe I should have posted my second thread 1st. This thread is asking who took the NCLEX on Tues in Cali. My other asked, who took the board in any state, at any time and how long did it take to get results. I thought I would get more replies if I asked it a bit more vaguely. I have called the BRN and they have told me that they have everything for my file. I will take your advice and sit tight. No need to vent, complain, or further fuel my anxiety by posting/reading these type of threads. Que sera sera. Thanks again.

And does anyone know if the CA BRN verification page will update tomorrow (Sat.) with today's date? As I stated in my 1st post, it updated today with yesterdays date. Thanks to all that reply.

Thank you! As I stated, not just a few but my entire class who took the NCLEX got their results in 3 days from the BRN verification website. I do have a SSN, I was born and raised in America. I know that snail mail results can take up to 3 weeks but I was told, if you passed, the BRN website will have your name and license number on there in 3 days---possibly 4. Like I said, I'm just freaking out and worrying too much. Would like to hear from someone who took it on Tuesday and did or did not find out their results--just for piece of mind, or at least my sanity.

I am just wondering if anyone on here took the NCLEX in California this past Tues. (Oct 14th.). If so....have your results been posted on the BRN website? All of my fellow classmates who have taken it already have said that if I took it on Tuesday I would find out my result today. However, the BRN system updated this morning and my name was not on it. Yesterday the BRN verification page said that the last update was on 10/15 (2 days ago). Today, I woke up at 4am and it still said the last update was 10/15. So i went back to sleep and when I woke up it said the last update was 10/16??? Is it a day behind? Or isit always like that? I know tomorrow is Saturday but will it update tomorrow morning with todays date or will I have to live all weekend knowing that I probably did not pass. Maybe it will post on Monday, I dunno. Bt most of my fellow classmates swear it only takes 3 days. BTW... I took my test at 2pm. You think that could have affected when the posting will be? I dunno...I have been seriously stressing. Which I have noticed is a common trend for people in my situtation. Why couldn't CA just participate in Quick results......Geeeesh!

If you're consistently in the 60s then you are absolutely fine. Everyone I know who took Kaplan was getting low 60s passed. It's tough to be consistently higher than 60. I was told that if your Kaplan average was 60 or higher than you are ready for the NCLEX. Just work on your weak areas...but I think you're fine. Good luck

I went to PCC starting in Fall of 04'. I wanted to get into the RN program and didn't know much about it back then. I went to see a counselor and he made me feel like getting in would be impossible, he said I could try but it would be tough and that I should look into other fields also. Well, here I am 4 years later and a recent RN program graduate! I did all of my prerequisites at PCC and during that time I heard sooo many people talk about how great the PCC program wasand that it was the best program to get into. I even had a fellow classmate who decided to ONLY apply to PCC based on that. However, I applied to 4 schools (including PCC) that participated in a lottery system. I lost the lottery on 3 of them, however, I got into Glendale College's (GCC) RN program on my first shot. I was so happy. And the program there was fantastic, just as good as PCC in my opinion. I had so many great clinical experiences and teachers. And now that I'm finished I realize how foolish my fellow classmate was. We still keep in touch on myspace and he gave up on applying after 3 trys at PCC. He has decided to go into law enforcement instead but is still on some waiting list for that. I just took the state board exam (NCLEX) 2 days ago and once I pass that the puzzle is finally complete. I will finally have my RN license after 4 years of study! So.....here are my tips: -Don't get your hopes up on PCC, an RN license is an RN license no matter what school you go to. Apply to as many schools as possible and don't give up hope if you don't get in the first time. - RIGHT NOW..... make a list of all the RN programs in the L.A. area. Seperate the lottery schools from the waiting list schools. Now find out all the info possible on each lottery school in relation to the prerequisites. Each school has varying prereq's. For example, PCC requires Nutrition and Child Developmental psych, while GCC requires Psych 101 and Humanities (plus math, english and of course all the science courses). Now if you have extra room for the classes in a particular semester take them all to improve your chances of getting into a program. It will save you time in the end and you will get your career started much sooner (which means it will also save you money). - Try to make a B average in your science courses. I had only 1 C, in Physio 2A, but I made A's and B's in everything else so my GPA was above 3.0. Keep your overall GPA above 3.0 but really make sure you do well in the sciences. Like I said, one C is OK but don't slack too much. Those courses can be tough so try your best and study hard when you get into Micro and Physio/Anatomy. - I believe you will get in! I was so uncertain at first that I'd ever make it this far but here I am. I was in your shoes 4 years ago and 4 years from now you will be in mine. GOOD LUCK! and feel free to ask me any question that you'd like.

There seems to be no way to predict if you passed or failed. All my fellow students who took the exam thought they failed after taking the NCLEX. However, they all passed. I just took the exam on Tuesday and also feel uncertain. I knew (or could narrow down to 2 answers) many of the questions but I also guessed on many. My other classmates felt the same way so for now I am just waiting and worrying....and obsessively reading other peoples posts, googling, and checking the CA BRN constantly. I wish my state participated in quick results but it seems that you either wait 3-4 days to find out on the BRN website or you hear by mail that you failed. Although one my classmates waited 2 weeks to find out that she passed. The waiting is the hardest part and almost as nerve-racking as taking the actual test. Good luck to you.

Well..... Can't say I passed but I took the test 2 days ago (14th) and it sounds like we're in the same boat. I also did not have any SATA or computation and stopped at 75. By question #65 I thought "Oh no, I am in for a long test because I have only received multiple choice questions." Then it stopped after 75. I am really worried (like everyone after the test) and am pretty much obsessed with finding out if I passed. From what I've heard it doesn't matter what type of questions you get.
