I'm a nurse who now works with Medicare patients. Obama Care has been the worst thing to happen to our Healthcare Industry since HMOs came about. I did my research like it sounds "PsychGuy" has also done , and realized from the start that it was going to be a really bad move for the Country. I can't even begin to tell you all the damage it has caused and continues to cause to our patients. Wait until you find yourself in the bed as the patient one day and how limited your options are and then tell us how great Obama Care is. Most people who are actually unfortunate enough to be in the middle class now have to pay anywhere from 5k to 10k before their insurance will even kick in. That's not affordable healthcare. I got my job on the premise that we would be patient advocates only to find out little by little that the patients are having less and less choices about their healthcare and my job is really about helping them to get with the program. I am presently looking for another job. It is a good thing that we will have a Republican as President again, and this time one that is not a politician. I think many will be surprised at what an Entrepreneur can actually get accomplished. Peace.

That's another approach I've never been comfortable with. You can dress as if you would, if you got the job. It helps the employer see how you would dress if hired. I 've never tried it because I always wanted them to know I was serious about getting the job, serious enough to go through all the trouble of getting dressed up. But yes that is another approach that I've heard about. There is something to be said about just being you, and being comfortable in what you wear. Good advice..

When I got out of the Navy they put us through a course that prepped us for the real world of getting a job, it its called TAP; Transition Assistance Program. I learned valuable info.: They said to wear Navy Blue if you can and I've always dressed up for a job interview in navy blue. You can't go wrong. Invest in a good navy blue business suit; there are many to be found at thrift stores or second hand stores for a fraction of the cost. Also do not have any heavy cologne or perfume on you. Don't smoke before your interview if you do because you will smell of it. Also they said to focus on the area that makes a triangle between the interviewers eyes and nose, and rotate your gaze from point to point in this triangle. What this does is it allows your gaze to move about but not make the interviewer too nervous because you are constantly staring at them, try it you'll see what I mean. If you ever answer a question with a negative reply make sure you follow it up with what you learned from the experience, that way you are turning a negative into a positive. A firm handshake is a must. Be confident, even if you feel the job you are reaching for is a little beyond you; if you are still the best applicant they have interviewed they will work with you and bring you up to speed with the position. Mostly they want to know you are trainable and you'll fit with their organization. It's better to be over dressed then under dressed. It lets them know you are serious about the job. Hope this helps. But she did say it would not matter because all current RNs would be "grand-fathered in", after the change whos to say. Politics always plays a part but I think as long as each state gets a cut of the yearly funds received for renewal fees that maybe they would be happy if it would bring them a higher profit. I don't think CA BON will like this idea since they see themselves as so much better then any other state. We can only hope. I've recently decided not to do the distance learning thing. Even though the board may accept you there seems to be too many old-school people that don't have a good taste for EC. You'll never know if your passed over for a position because you had EC training or not because the job interviewer may ask you where you went to school to weed out applicants and it could be a deciding factor. I don't know but I think I'm goint to just try and do a traditional college program.

I did speak with the Nevada Board of Nursing the other day, and spoke with the persn who is the Authority on Distance Education. She stated that as long as the school is NLN approved that they will recognize, so I think I was given incorrect info. Also she stated that if I'm still around in the nursing field in about five years the is going to be a National License to practice in the United States and then it won't matter what states accept Excelsior and which ones do because all RN's will be grandfathered in. That's a good thing to hear,however I wonder how much they will charge to renew you license...500.00 I can see it now.

Hi I just moved from FL. It's not as if she was getting these drugs off the street. But there are plenty of people who have become addicted to presciption narcotics. The board would investigate and when they found out that this person did have a legal need for the pain medication and that they did have a legal prescription then I don't think that they would punish for that. But it sounds as if your friend is heading down a dangerous road by not discussing it with their Doctor because now they are starting to "abuse" the medication. Do you see what I'm saying? I use to do some work in a Drud,Detox & Rehab Facility. Many people who ended up in our program started out on a legitamate prescription for narcotics ( at least that is their story ) and then they became addicted. Your friend is not that far into this though and there is still time to nip it in the butt before it becomes a life changing event. Ignoring the potential problem is not going to make it go away and could place their life in jeopardy, not just their schooling. It's worth looking into now. Hope all goes well. There is my

Concratulations!!! I wish I could say the same. I've just started looking into trying to get my RN by testing out. A&P is a class I still need. How did you know what book to get to study with. Does Excelsior tell you what books to get to study and test out. I understand I don't have to enroll into Excelsior untill after the second Nursing course(which I also understand I don't need to take given I'm an LPN). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Congratulations!!! I'm new to this website. I'm looking to get my RN via distance learning. I've read many of your postings and you have good advice. This is what I'm trying to decide. Do I need a Publishing Companys help with their expensive study guides or is it possible to get what I need to study and pass from excelsior? Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm also currently researching how to obtain my RN. I just found out that you pay 895.00 for enrolling to EC then you have one year to finish the nursing courses.If you have not finished within 12 months then you have to pay the 440.00 for the next year. I had not realized that until just recently.

I was going to complete the LPN to BSN program through Indiana State University but found out that the Nevada State Nursing Board does not allow LPNs to go directly to a BSN, we must first become and RN(2YR) then they allow us to obtain our BSN. It does not make any sense to me. So I'd check with your Nursing Board because they are all different. Hope this helps. It would have been nice to do their program because you can do your clinicals locally.
