  1. Just keep looking for postings usually around December/ January and June/ July because this is when the extern and interns graduate so there are openings.
  2. I got the job!! Its on the geriatric floor I am very excited just wondering what do I need to brush up on, any pointers would be appreciated this is a area that I have always wanted to be in and I want to make the best of this opportunity. Also if I can get a e-mentor of some sort that can help me transition and with advice that would be really great, I know there is a lot of experience of this forum. Thank you
  3. Well long story short I has two interviews for extern positions and I got the dates confused so I missed one and HFHS called me and I made it for that one Wednesday. So I am where you are at starting on the 15th in the mental health dep. I am so happy because I asked for this area and I got it. I go tomorrow for a meeting. Then the 15th with orientation.
  4. Well I want to thank everyone for your response. I got a call today and got a offer for a position in the mental health department exactly were I wanted to be. I am very happy and I finally get to do what I always wanted.
  5. Congrats, I got mine also, what department are you going to do your externship in? When do you start?
  6. Well interview went well hopefully here something soon.
  7. I have just finished a interview for a nurse extern position and expressed my interest of doing it for Psych. I have allows been interested in Behavioral health, and Neuroscience. I was just wondering if there anything I could do to get ready for this position? Any advice someone could give because after this externship is over I plan on staying in this department and one day becoming a DNP in mental health. Thanks
  8. Good luck RN2Be, I am very nervous also. We will get though it and hopefully get these positions. If not this time we can come back on here and help each other with what they were asking and looking for to help with future interviews. Let me know how it goes tomorrow.
  9. I have one on Wednesday but it is not for Henry Ford, I just have a classmate that also has a interview there on Monday. She thinks that's how it will go since it is so short of an interview. If I hear anything else I will let you know. I am just curious also because I never had one of these interviews either.
  10. Someone was saying they ask about how you would handle situations with co workers, just look at letters, and meet you. Please come back on Monday and let me know how it went and what they asked you.
  11. I have a letter from my last med/surg clinical instructor that is great. I am trying to get another one before Wednesday but it is hard during summer. I am feeling better about the interview I am getting my portfolio together but I heard some poeple say they dont even look at them but at least I will have it just in case. I will post back on here Wednesday to let everyone know how it went and if it does not work out at least I got my first interview out of the way and can prepare better for the next one.
  12. Thanks for your help, I started working at Ford Motor Company right after High school and I worked there for 9 years then took a buy out. I did not have a interview for that job, so I am just really nervous and especially when they said a panel of people.
  13. Hello, Well I finally got a interview after about 60 applications! It is for a Nurse extern position which is great because I am going into my last semester of my nursing program and the hours are great just 32/hr a month. They said it will be about 15 minutes long in front of a panel of people. I am so nervous I have never been interviewed. What can I do to get more comfortable/confident? What questions will the ask? Any advice would be appreciated thank you.
  14. Hello, I am very interested in moving to New mexico currently I am in Michigan and the job market is terrible. How is it here? I have several questions, because it will be hard to go down there and see for myself while I am in my last semester of nursing school. How is the job market here not just for nusing but just the market itself? I would like to know a nice area for my husband and myself and wonder how diverse culturally this State is? This is very important for me and its hard to ask when looking for a home. What is the median home range for these nice areas and how does it compare to a entry level nurses pay? Thank you for your help I know its a lot of questions but I am really considering moving and would like to get as much information as possible.
  15. There is hope I think 35 out of 46 made it out last time so people make it out. Really when it comes to Cardiac and the rest of the chapters it really does not matter what book you read because of how she words the questions Brunners is easier to read than Iggy for some people thats all. Like I said earlier it is not knowledge based questions so what book does not matter it is just what would you do if this happened. So in general it would be like, what would you do if someone B/P is to high or to low this answer does not change depending on what book you read. So the book is not important in this class.
  16. First chapters are 36-38 41 I think. I dont want to judge but our class did do better then classes before and that might because the GPA was so high in our group I think 3.75 was the cut off. The GPA was never that high and that might be the reason why some groups dont do as well as others. Tests are not like other teachers and they are not knowledge based but application type questions so you have to change they way you learn the material. Flash card are not going to help in this class.
  17. Med/Surg 2 is a lot harder than med surg 1, at least for me. But if you can start reading during Winter break and start doing some NcLex questions you will do better.
  18. I will go up there Monday if the weather allows me to, I live in Wayne but I would like to get some reading done ahead of time. I will post the reading assigments Monday evening.
  19. Hi,Lenae05 we are in the same pod so I will see you soon, but I was just giving the thread a bump. Does anyone have the reading list from last semester? If so, please list it. Thank you and Happy New Year!
  20. Sorry I been so Busy, I signed up for pod #12 with C.P for 111 and clinical at Annapolis. So we probably have the same person for 110 and 112. I just started reading the first chapters of all the books even the optional books. So if anyone has the same person for 110 (pods 9-12) since it is still TBA but we all have the same lecture we can go over points in the first chapter maybe after the new Year. Let me know.
  21. I thought we could start a thread to help each other out with questions or emergency lab partners. Just things that we might want to discuss about this new adventure we are starting. I already picked up two books to start my reading I know they wanted the last class to have some reading done before the first class. Hope to hear from some people. Have a great holiday and get some rest, we will need it for the first semester.
  22. I was wondering about the Hep B shot, it is a set of 3 that need to be taken a month apart, do you have to have all 3 done by the meeting.
  23. My G.P.A is 3.8, I just hope my application was all together. I had some problems with my advance standing forms, but hopefully it will be ok. Good luck to everyone trying for spring 09!
  24. I went to the meeting my diploma was fine, there was about 75 people there. Not as many as I would expect for the deadline day. I got my fingers crossed.
  25. I have all my papers ready for the meeting 9-30 but I do not have my high school transcripts I have my diploma is this fine. What all did you need to bring? Thank you so much.
